Detailed Reviews
We have been enjoying Joyful Journey for many years now, but this past weekend we tried a new treat there, the Yoga-Breakfast-Soak Special. The yoga class was truly 'joyful'. It was held in a yurt, the geometry of which is comforting and inspiring. The leader, Nancy, was incredibly kind, playful, and passionate about genuinely connecting with her class. Breakfast was delicious, but the portions were a bit smaller than we'd hoped. I try avoid starchy foods, so options with biscuits, potatoes, and pancakes are not helpful to me. The single menu item that met my restrictions/preferences was the tofu veggie scramble. I enjoyed the textures and flavors, but I had requested a larger portion since I was not having bread or hash browns on the side. Unfortunately I was still only served the same portion as others around me who had ordered additional foods as well. Soaking was wonderful as always. There are 3 pools at various temperatures. We never go to the hottest one but we know for sure that the medium and cooler ones are shaded in the summer. The locker rooms are clean, though the showers take a looooong time to get warm and there is rarely soap in the shower dispensers. All in all, the Yoga Special at Joyful Journey was a great way to spend a Sunday and we will gladly do it again and recommend it to family and friends who come to visit. (Note: The special is only available on Sundays, but yoga is also offered on Saturdays and soaking is open all week and weekend.)

I have always enjoyed that Joyful Journey is not the glamorous hot springs to visit in CO. I especially appreciate the $12 admission price for seniors and that when you stay there you get meals and access to the hot springs. I also love the peaceful mountain views one has while in the pools. However, when I visited last week I was disappointed that none of the 3 pools or the jacuzzi were hot. They barely even felt warm (maybe 99 to 100 degrees at best). In addition, the resort requests that you shower before entering the pools. However all the showers I tried in the women's locker room were spraying ice cold water. I hope this was just a random "off day" and that they get their showers and pools back to normal temperatures!

This was my 3rd visit to Joyful Journey Hot Springs. We stayed in a Yurt for two nights. The resort is being super safe with the COVID situation, and it' 2.5 hours from my house.
Joyful Journey has done some improvements over the past few years, well kept grounds, clean, environmentally conscious and wonderful staff on site. The staff seems happy and well treated.
We soaked, relaxed in the grass for a picnic, and the yoga was spectacular on site.
Also, make sure and adventure around the property, there a little walks with very pretty views and spiritual areas for meditation and self reflection.
There are three soaking pools which vary in temperature. The staff cleans the pools each evening. The waters were welcoming.
The massage that we booked was just what we needed as well. Make sure and book in advance.
The food for breakfast and dinner was healthy and fresh. Coffee was good.
#2 Yurt could use some TLC, older, request a newer one with the deck outside!
Overall, the place is pretty hippie dippy, which is what I like, they provide robes and towels as well. We are feeling good after our visit and will certainly be back.

Honestly having a hard time reviewing this one. This is someone’s small business and probably dream. This place over promises and underdelivers. You might look at the website and think, “ wow those are dated photos of the rooms, they probably look better than that.” Nope, those are current photos of the rooms. We could only get a yurt. For $171 a night average for two people it was way too expensive.
Sunday night, one of the higher priced nights promised “soup salad and sandwich” for dinner. There was only soup and salad. Not a big deal right? Breakfast listed hash browns and instead was rice with brown butter for color and flavor. Monday was “chefs choice” which wasn’t bad given it was just all the old stuff in the fridge. Tuesday was Asian night. The teriyaki chicken was cold, the “sesame fried rice” was just white rice with chives. Things like that.
There is little to no upkeep. The owner clearly doesn’t reinvest into anything and their use of single serving, foam cups, plastic wrap etc show that it’s not about being eco friendly.
I would recommend this as a stop on a road trip for the day use maybe, or overnight if you must, but not for three nights like we did.
The robes, sheets, beds, lighting were from 1999 or so, penalty before or right after she bought it. It had the 1990s popular halogen lamp, mismatched garage sale beds and headboard thats were about to fall apart. The table was literally wobbly with a huge crack in it and the floor was the floor of the yurt with seriously dirty entrance mats as “rugs”. 2 hooks for your robes etc one of them right above the electric outlets. There’s no extra comforter (it gets cold in the middle of the night and turning the heater on is a process). Lots of little things that really make it not worth the price you pay.

We understand that post covid many places are struggling to provide the level of service to their customers. With
That said the attitude of many of the staff was deplorable.
We called early in the day to confirm check in and we’re advised that our room would be ready by 4 pm the latest.
Upon arrival not only was it not ready but the housekeeping team was overwhelmed. When we got into our room at 430, the floors were still wet and the sheets on both beds were dirty. The next morning we advised the front desk team of the issue and asked if they could change the sheets while we were out exploring. Upon returning at 3 pm they hadn’t even started. Worse when my wife asked housekeeping when they would be done, she was rudely treated. The final straw was when they replaced the sheets, they put torn ones in. We saved photos because this was so incredible. Our hope is that management reads this and makes the improvements needed starting with customer service training. On a positive note, the kitchen was very friendly and helpful.

We loved the pools, which were a temperature to soak in all day, and very clean, which if you are a regular hot springs-goer, you know is a big deal. (Hot springs are extremely high maintenance real estate.) The owners are obviously prioritizing the soak experience, which is the right thing to do, but other things are suffering. The robes were the scratchiest most tattered items of cloth I've ever seen. My husband refused to put one on. We appreciated the vegetables at both meals, especially the veggie hash for breakfast, but they ran out of coffee by 8 a.m. and nobody made more. That's inexcusable. Some of the architecture needed repair, and the lockers were rusty. Our yurt was cute and cozy and warm and while the bathrooms required a trip outdoors, they were clean and modern. To be honest, I'd like to rate this a 3, but some folks refuse to consider anything less than 4 and I would highly recommend this place for a day soak. For an overnight, keep your expectations low and bring your own bathrobe, your own supply of coffee, and plan to soak all day. (P.S. For a more natural hot springs, the Orient Land Trust Valley View Hot Springs is up the road. Totally natural both in geology and human anatomy.)

Located about 45 minutes north of Alamosa, Joyful Journey was a pleasant respite in the middle of nowhere. We stayed in the Hotel and "soaks" in the hot spring pools were included and also breakfast and the evening meal. The rooms weren't fancy but were comfortable and clean and had everything you needed. The food was listed as light so we weren't expecting much but we had full hot breakfasts and a complete dinner at every sitting. The meals were all above our expectations. We did partake in the pools. The nice thing is that they clean them daily which was nice.

Joyful Journey is a gem in the middle of a huge valley. It was my first time there and I was not disappointed. It’s so quiet and calm that it truly puts you at peace. The hot springs are amazing to soak in with the three different pools, the rooms are cozy, and the food was great! The entire staff went above and beyond! I don’t get massages frequently, but I would highly suggest getting one right after you soak in the springs! It was the best massage I have ever had. I would highly recommend this place if you want to get away from the city and experience peace and quiet at its finest. Thanks Joyful Journey!

This place is really nice. We stayed in a yert and it was very comfortable. There are a million stars at night and you can hear the coyotes howling. Overnight accommodations include breakfast and dinner. There are gluten free and vegan options as well as regular meat meals. The food is very good.
There were a few issues that could be easily resolved, in my opinion. This is a conference center as well as a vacation spot. When there is a conference, there is a definite lack of staff and room in the cafeteria. We were not part of the conference so while those folks are, the rest of us were crammed into a small area it had to eat outside (it wasn't exactly warm). The same staff providing us dinner was also working the conference dinner. It was chaotic at best.
Excuses, excuses, excuses. There was one person on the staff who had an excuse for everything from why there weren't any napkins to why they kept running out of coffee. When we asked why they didn't have something, we were told they only do it on Sundays. However, we were there on Sunday and that wasn't the case.
Around the pools are gas burning fireplaces. It was in the low 50s but these weren't lit. This would have been a nice touch.
There are 3 mineral pools and 2 Jacuzzis. One Jacuzzi was not working 2 of the 3 nights we were there. There were so many people and kids that I wouldn't consider it relaxing.
All in all it was a nice vacation. It could be better if more effort was put into the details and if there was an adult only pool.

Went cross country skiing and thought about trying the Salida Hot Springs, but was told it was basically a pool. Barista at Sacred Grounds told us about this place, and since skiing was on the way, we decided to check it out. A bit out of the way, but so worth it!! Relaxing and beautiful. It was COLD outside, but once you got into the pools it didn't matter. There are 3 of varying temperatures, and it is just wonderful. Looking into going back to stay as it looks like there is plenty to do pretty near. IF you're an outdoors person. Sand Dunes were pretty close, too, which I never knew even after living in Colorado for almost 20 years. Hmmmm...

Diane, Thank you! This is exactly what we strive to accomplish. We are not for everyone, being a bit more earthy, but for those of you that appreciate the qualities we have to offer, you are who we want to discover us. The Mystic San Luis Valley has been cold and yet, the best time of the year to experience hot springs. Happy New Year!

Yes, we do provide robes for overnight hotel and Yurt accommodations.
