Words cannot describe the amazing time I had with my family. Totally out of my comfort zone, I had the best week of my life. Worth every penny. The food was great, staff was five star all the way. Cabins were clean and modern. Anything you could think of had already been thought of for you. My 12 year old boy was unplugged all week and it did him a world of good.
BMR is a true Western experience. It is family owned and operated and done so with pride. Fly into Vail, CO and either rent a car or Uber. There is a Costco near the airport for snacks. That being said, the food is so good and plentiful, you will not go hungry! Dress is casual and there is a gift shop and laundry available on property. The Saloon has pop and adult beverages. The water is delicious - no plastic needed! The staff here REALLY want the experience to be yours and go the extra mile to make it so. This I was just a fabulous time. If you like horses and the West, this is the place to be.
My first time visiting BMR with my wife and it could not have been better. The accommodations, staff, service and overall experience were perfect! They go out of their way to make sure you get the experience YOU want, simply tell them. By the end of the week we had many new friends and felt like part of the BMR family.
We have looked forward to coming to “Black Mountain Ranch”, for the last 4 years. The owners, wranglers, chef, are wonderful, warm, informative people, who make every visitor, adults, children, feel comfortable with every level of riding ability, especially those new to riding (“beginners”). The wranglers are an experienced, friendly group of people, who make everyone feel comfortable. The cabins are lovely, and housekeeping will come by every day if you like. The food is great, as well. An A+ recommendation! Coming back for a 5th year in 2023! N & G Buck
They welcomed us with an open Saloon to stretch & meet others. We were assigned a horse and off we went. My husband a beginner lassoed a small calf. I played soccer on horseback. Just a great time. And the meals were delicious and generous. Made friends sitting family style at every meal.
From the moment you arrive at BMR you know you’re in for a special week. The May family and their wranglers are incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They treat guests with the most genuine and authentic kindness. The wranglers were exceptional with my 10 and 11 year old daughters, encouraging and enabling them to try new things and explore all the ranch had to offer. As a testament to how much fun the kids were having, they never once during the entire week asked for tech time or used a cellphone! For adults, the ranch accommodations are beautifully appointed, the food is spectacular, the horses are wonderfully cared for, and the variety of activities truly offers something for everyone. If a dude ranch vacation is what you are looking for, then BMR is the placing you’re dreaming of. We can’t wait to go back again!!…
I was joking with another BMR guest at the beginning of our stay last week bc we had both wondered if all these glowing TripAdvisor reviews could possibly be true. Trust me- they are. Our family just spent an amazing week at BMR. The food, the accommodations, the activities, the friendliness of the staff- from the owners to the wranglers to the kitchen and maintenance crew- everyone was warm and welcoming. I’m not sure I understand the one negative reviewer’s comment about lack of beef and meal portion sizes. My daughter celebrated her birthday there, and they brought her out a piece of gourmet cake as big as her head! Every meal was plentiful and delicious. Steak, chicken, fish, prime rib, a never-ending supply of cookies in the dining hall, etc. We all hated having to give up Chef Bob’s cooking and go back to eating mine :) Most impressive was that our wrangler, Ike, tailored our experience to our family members’ different interests. Every day we could choose among several options. There were a even couple times when he took our older boys to the shooting range, while our daughter stayed back and did leather working with another wrangler. Ike and others went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great experience. I’m grateful that there was no wifi in the cabins. It was a device-free week, with the family spending our downtime playing cards, foosball, ping pong, billiards, fishing, hot tubbing and hanging out with all the ranch animals. And that’s just when we weren’t riding horses, white water rafting, or seeing a rodeo. The only negative that I can possibly think of about BMR is that it’s set the bar so high that it’s going to be hard to find another family vacation that can compete. Thanks, May family and BMR staff, for helping us create so many great memories.…
Well We are on our way back for a second year! We love the ranch vacation and this is the 4th ranch we have been to. We were here July 2021 We don’t usually go to the same place twice but we had and absolutely amazing time at BMR! Everyone was exceptional, but especially our wrangler Josh as well the other wranglers Arthur, Jess, and Thatcher made the experience absolutely incredible for the entire family! Have you ever gone on vacation and really felt like you were apart of the family? BMR welcomes you and makes you feel like you are a guest and a family member. They listen you want to feel like you are apart of the family. One of the things we truly appreciated, how the owners spent time with us. Cindy, one of the co-owners, at dinner sat with us and talked specifically to my 14-year-old daughter and listened to her which made her feel special. That was one of my daughter’s stand out moments! I find it increasingly rare that people take the time just to relate to one another. This ranch is relatively free from the distraction of the internet, which makes it much easier to be a connect with others. If you are looking for a place to have an exceptional time to connect with family, nature, animals, new friends who feel like old friends, where you can be yourself, and have lots of laughs, this is the place for you! Thanks so very much!!…
BMR exceeded all my expectations. The ranch is run by a really nice family & a talented & caring staff. The Rocky Mountains are gorgeous & are best seen from the back of a horse. The horses were well cared for & safe. The cabins were clean, comfortable & the meals were outstanding. The cattle drive, riding up to pack camp & sleeping out under the stars were high points. In addition, the ranch offers jacuzzis (nice after a day of riding), a nice pool, shooting, fishing, hiking, and camaraderie & line dancing in their saloon. This was one of my favorite vacations ever!
Traveled early June with 7 horse riding ladies. We all had the trip of a lifetime. The staff are like family. The staff and owners are all pleasant and love their jobs. The smiles are genuine. We were assigned two wranglers, Branden and Dawes-we all immediately bonded and had a lot of laughs on our daily adventures. Each day Branden or Dawes visited our breakfast table to set the days plan. The rides through the woods, up the mountain, to the lake were fun and challenging. The cabins were spotless and every meal was delicious. The horses are exceptionally well trained-they know their jobs. You are teamed with one of the 120 horses based upon your experience. If it isn’t a good match another horse is made available. If you are fortunate enough to travel to Black Mountain you will never forget the experience. Don’t miss the cattle drive.…
