Detailed Reviews
We stayed in The Bungalow in late September for 3 nights. We awoke every morning to birdsong and the sun glinting on the lake. The property is a short drive to Mesa Verde National Park which offers many trails with amazing vistas. But back to Willowtail. The hosts, Peggy and Lee, are always available for questions and recommendations. We loved the property so much that we cooked all of our own meals there including BBQ steaks on our first night. Their dog, Beau, took us on walks each morning (I am not kidding...we said "Beau take us for a walk" and he did leading us on a walk on the 60 acre property. recommend 3 nights!

An ideal location for anyone seeking peace and quiet in a well-stocked cabin. Cabins are clean, furnished, cozy and come with wifi. The cabins are about a 15-minute drive into the town of Mancos, a sleepy town which boasts a brewery, a cidery, a bakery, grocery and a few cool shops. This is an ideal place to spend alone or with family.

We loved our stay with Peggy and Lee at Willowtail Springs. Accommodations were very comfortable and well-appointed. We cooked some meals in the kitchen and found absolutely everything we needed for meal prep and service, and then some. Peggy's wonderful artwork hangs throughout the cottages It adds both warmth and sophistication to the ambiance and makes it feel like you are inside a creative cocoon. Our group of girlfriends were discussing plans for our next trip, and we decided to come back here.

The quiet winter energy of this lovely, remote place, proved perfect for a productive and inspired writing retreat. We were comfy, cozy and held by the creativity this location and its wonderful hosts, the Cloys, inspire!

We took our family of 6 here to visit Mesa Verde and enjoy a socially distant vacation. It was wonderful. We had a great time slowing down the pace and enjoying the canoes, the fishing and the Lake House. Peggy and Lee were so accommodating. It was a charming, rustic vacation for all of us.

This is a great place nestled in the mountains of Colorado. We came in June with our family and had a great time there. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The cabin was nice and the beds were comfy. We all had a blast and even caught a few fish from the lake. We will be back.

We rented the Lake house and relaxed there for 3 nights. The kitchen is well equipped and the first floor is spacious. I was surprised that although there are 3 bedrooms there is only one full bath. That would be the weakest point about the house. We liked all the other aspects.
This place is really off the road but not so far that it is uncomfortable. The location is good for exploring the southwestern area of Colorado.
We tried fishing but did not have the same luck as others have had there. It was great just sitting out in a canoe and relaxing in the afternoon though while taking photos. Once you are there you really don't want to leave.
The owners are very nice and were very helpful.

Although this was the most expensive stopover on our Road trip, I really think it is worth the money. We stayed in the Bungalow, which overlooked the lake, and you really could just spend hours listening to the various birds in and around the lakeside. This place is set well away from any main roads, so you really get a sense of calmness and tranquility here. Peggy and Lee were both charming and welcoming hosts, and we took a shine to their lovely dog Bo. I only wished we could have spent more time there, which seems to be the general consensus of most people that have stayed. The Bungalow was a real home away from home. If we get the chance, we would love to return, and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from it all, and just chill-out.

Stayed four nights in the bungalow.
Lovely location and outlook onto the pond / lake. Very convenient for Mesa Verde National Park and not too far from Durango, though Mancos and Cortez are more convenient for dining / provisions.
Good facilities in the cabin and some useful catering provided, eg. Granola, eggs, bread, fruit, milk, coffee.
Hadn't realised the bungalow was attached to the Lakeview house, but wasn't a problem. Also the walls between the sections of the bungalow leave little to the imagination so ensure you're close to the person you go with!
Lee and Peggy are good hosts and available when you need them.

What serendipity to stay in this forest cottage by the lake by Mesa Verde! Lee and Peggy have made a warm welcome of Willowtail Springs - from the alpacas that regard you as you arrive to Beau the dog and Bear the cat. We cuddled up by the fire, listened to the rain, and read our books. We took a quick drive over to Durango (don't miss this entertaining old town!.) We did everything in Mesa Verde National Park. We had a delicious local dinner at Lee's recommendation at Oilo. If you like to be off the beaten track and enjoy a different kind of place - this is heaven.

We didn't fish so I really don't know. If you call the owners they can tell you. I don't know if you would even need a license because the lake is on private property.
