We flew from another state to attend some dear friends’ ceremony to renew their wedding vows. From the photos online and the reviews, I was expecting a beautiful place to stay. We booked a room nearly a month in advance and were told we’d be put in one of their larger cabins. I had double knee surgery in the last year and walk with a cane but I was confident I could easily get around. We drove in around dusk and I was dismayed to see how unkempt and run-down the grounds looked. There are a few old dilapidated buildings that give it a deserted, spooky feeling. We followed several signs trying to find the office but it was very confusing, we ended up at a huge empty warehouse. Not a soul was around to ask for help. After 10 minutes, we finally found the real “office” with an envelope taped to the front door with our name on it. Again, there were several little cabins scattered around and it was hard to find our cabin. When we finally found it, I saw I was going to have a lengthy walk down a steep cement walk way and drag my suitcase. I went slowly and made it. We walked in to a tiny room with a small upholstered chair and a tiny wood table with 2 small wood chairs. There was an ancient wall air conditioner that made so much racket, you had to yell to be heard. There was an open doorway that led to the tiny bedroom. The tiny bathroom was barely big enough to turn around in. They had squeezed an old claw foot tub in there that was so high, I had difficulty getting in to take a shower. I felt like I was in a child’s dollhouse. But the WORST part was when we first walked in, we were assailed with the putrid overwhelming smell of MOLD. The room was clean but dank, ancient and smelly. I gritted my teeth and was determined to enjoy the weekend anyway. The ceremony was on the grass by the river and was lovely. The room where they had the reception was very pretty. The food they prepared was terrible. When we went back to our cabin, it was after dark. They had very few lights to guide us back. My husband and I were very nervous since there were many areas we couldn’t see anything at all. The next day they moved us to a larger house. At 2 in the afternoon, we discovered there was NO RUNNING WATER. It never came on. The people that work there are pleasant. I would never stay here again. If you don’t mind very old run-down rooms, if you don’t mind looking at scruffy weeds everywhere, if quality food means nothing to you, then you might like it. I just feel the owners completely misrepresented their ranch in their photos and description.

This experience was nothing like I could have imagined! The Cowgirl Round up in late September was more than a getaway. For this first time rider I was so impressed how they matched your horse to ability and experience. "Sandy" was perfect for me. The staff are all so helpful and always with a smile. Our group of four stayed together in Mamma J's house which had all ammenties and very comfortable. The meals were so delicious and hearty, followed by a special event each evening with a scrumptious dessert. The group of women from different parts of the USA, Toronto and Tel Aviv(!!) were enjoyable and so much fun! This trip was like nothing I have ever experienced! Looking forward to my return.

If you're looking for an amazing experience with the horses - the place to visit is here! I have been going to Sylvandale for more than 5 years, staying as a guest for the dude ranch week - the riding is spectacular, accommodations 5 star level - a pampering cabin with all facilities - excellent food served - and plenty of it! It's a great opportunity to get away - to nature, the horses - my favorite place.

What a wonderful experience! Breathtaking beauty on the many trail rides with horses that are trained so well. All the staff, and I mean all, were so helpful and kind. This place is truly a gem. The food(3 meals a day) and lodging were outstanding. The various activities offered were all excellent. The open, caring atmosphere made making new friends & relationships just happen.

I recently stayed at Sylvan Dale for a grownups only week (4 days of riding) with my son. We are from the east coast and I had always wanted to go to a dude ranch out west. I don’t like roughing it anymore but I love horses and trail riding. Sylvan Dale was perfect. The horses are all beautiful and well kept, raised right there on the ranch. They go out to pasture every night and were the cleanest horses I ever saw! The trails are breathtaking. The food was outstanding for every meal. They have chefs on premises and the meals are varied with lots of options. Even the desserts were homemade. The accommodations were nice, roomy and comfortable. If you like your toiletries I suggest you bring your own. The owners made it extra special and made you feel like a guest in their house. I would love to go back and take a few cabins with more family members.
