Different than an inn, historic hotel or B&B, the accommodations at The Governor's Mansion offer our guests a unique lodging experience. Our suites take the condo concept back to the Victorian era without sacrificing modern conveniences. The Governor's Mansion was once the home of former Governor Jesse McDonald and is centrally located in Leadville's National Historic Landmark District. You'll be surrounded by the highest mountains in the Colorado Rockies where majestic scenery blends with a lively history.

Since the other reviews on the site were written, the property has changed hands. But the level of service and amenities remain great. We had the downstairs unit and enjoyed the convenience and access. Would definitely try to book here on our next trip to Leadville.

We had the 3rd floor suite, which took alot out of us just because we were not used to the altitude yet, but it was a wonderful place to stay. We had a king sized bed in one room and 2 twin beds in the other. JoAnn thought of everthing we could possibly need. It was very clean.

This suit is 3 flights up at almost 12,000 feet, but worth it! Outside entrance and well equipped. King bed was awesome, bathroom shower doors are a bit awkward. Didn't want to get the floor wet and it was a challenge. Includes two twin beds in another room and a nice

Jaime and I love sharing our home with our guests and appreciate all the wonderful things they have written about us and our home! This house has been known locally as the Governor's Mansion since 1905 when then owner Jesse McDonald became Governor of the State of Colorado which is why we selected that name for our business. The 1905 City Directory lists Jesse McDonald at 129 W. 8th St. and prodly proclaims: "Governor, State of Colorado" in the listing. The house was built by Jesse in 1893 in the then booming mining town of Leadville. It was considered a mansion back in those days, especially in such a mountainous location. Goods and building supplies had to be hauled from Denver over dirt roads and high mountain passes to get to Leadville. As for air conditioning, nature provides it for us. At 10,152 ft., our summer days rarely reach 80 and nights are in the low 50s to high 40s. Tina is correct in saying that our community does without it, but we have plenty of heat to keep our guests comfortable throughout the other seasons! We have spent the past 10 years restoring this house and have not blown out walls or extended the footprint in order to keep it as historically correct and comfortable as possible for the enjoyment of our family and guests. Since it is located in the heart of Leadville's National Historic District, we have been careful to modernize it while maintaining it's Victorian charm.

We stayed in the Jesse MacDonald suite of the Governor's Mansion just last weekend while we took a family ski trip to Ski Cooper. There was three of us and the accommodations were perfect for us. It's on the ground floor and has everything you need (except an oven, we

My wife and I stayed here for two nights for our first ski trip to the area. Jaime (who also happens to be Leadville's mayor) and Jo Ann are great hosts. They were very flexible about our late arrival, took time to welcome us, and respected our privacy for the rest of the stay.

Thanks so much for your review! We appreciate positive feedback. There's only one error in this review. The bed in the bedroom is a queen not a full size bed. We thought it was better to have the largest bed we could fit into this cute and cozy bedroom.

"2nd place we stayed at in Leadville. There wasn't any AC, but included a fan. I think AC is not common in this community."
