The Inn is the kind of lodge where everyone feels like friends and family. People engage in conversation hanging out on the deck or in the common area at the delicious breakfast or after dinner. It's entirely volunteer-run - volunteers come for a week at a time to do the housekeeping and breakfast service. Some have been coming for years and make the place feel like home for everyone. Our room was comfortable and cozy, with a simple and clean bathroom. The location is stunning. It's a few miles from town not near any services, in case you care about that.

Our favorite area of Colorado, Lake City is a beautiful little town situated in the San Juan Mountains in the south central part of the state. Inn at the Lake was the perfect place to spend two days of relaxing outdoor fun. The accommodations were very nice and included a wonderful, hearty breakfast. The Inn is situated directly across from Colorado's second largest lake and the views are incredible. Robert the inn keeper and his staff, do a masterful job of taking care of the guests. Also, the entrance to the Alpine Loop, a six hour wild excursion into the San Juan Range, is directly in front of the Inn.

So take my advice, stay at the In at the Lake, rent a jeep in Lake City and have an adventure of a life time.

There are many choices of where to stay in Lake City, and we are so glad we picked The Inn at the Lake. It was a hard choice not to stay right in town, but the short drive out to Lake San Cristobal was totally worth it. The views were beautiful...the star gazing amazing...and the customer service outstanding. The owners were the best, and their breakfasts were sooooo delicious.

The Inn at the Lake was such an enjoyable stay. The views were incredible. Friendly owners and staff create a fun pleasant time for all ages. They provided s’mores and a campfire in the evening and a lovely breakfast. The only recommendation I have is to bring a small fan to help bring in some of that cool mountain air into your room at night as it can get a little warm in those summer months! We are already planning our next stay!

We spent 9 days in the state of Colorado on vacation. Our stay at the Inn at the Lake was the highlight of our entire trip. We spent 3 nights and days at the Inn at the Lake, and wish we had spent more time there. Aside from the beautiful surrounding scenery, hosts David and Rosie are outstanding, and now feel as though they are friends we have known for years! The breakfasts there are wonderful! We enjoyed meeting other guests and also the devotion each morning gave a wonderful start to our days. We encourage anyone that is traveling in the area to stay at the Inn at the Lake. We are certainly looking forward to a return visit sometime in the future.

The setting is lovely and the breakfast is outrageous- very friendly and wonderful food. I knew that the couple who owned the place offered Christian songs, devotional sessions, etc if requested, but I did not realize that I was going to get a devotional lesson with breakfast. I should have read the website more carefully, this is not the place for everyone! While I am Christian, I am not comfortable with this type of witnessing and could not wait to get out to the beautiful lake. The rooms are adequate, but nothing special. Lovely couple who owns it.

We know the Inn is not for everyone but we sure enjoyed having YOU here with us. We do look forward to sharing our "God Stories" around the breakfast table each morning (as we make clear on our website) but if we had any idea you did not want to hear them we would have invited you to sit in the deck swing enjoying the gorgeous view until we finished. Wish you would have told us when you were here so we could have fixed it for you.

Traveling on a vacation we stumbled upon this B&B. We were welcomed the moment you arrive. David and Rosie were not there but one of the volunteers was there with open arms. Once David and Rosie arrived they greeted us and welcomed us to their summer home as if we were family.

The views are wonderful at this location. It is definately off the beaten path but the silence is great as well as refreshing. At night, if the weather is right they have a campfire where everyone can make smores. Make sure that you are hungry for breakfast as there is more than enough to eat. This is definately a unique experience and one that we will definately take in again when in the area.

Once in a rare while, you find a place that transcends even the beauty of its location, that exceeds expectations, and most importantly leaves an indelible mark on your memory, your soul.

This is more than a B&B, when you stay here you truly feel welcome, you feel like family. The owner David was there during our stay and is one of the most genuine, open, and down to earth persons I have ever met. He shared stories from his life with us and other guests that moved us and gave us pause to reflect on all we have and all the goodness that can be there if we make an effort to look.

The staff during our stay was an amazing group of people from Oklahoma. They were all volunteer, friends of the owner and we felt like we got to know them during our 6 night stay. Everyone made us feel so welcome, and the breakfasts that they created were absolutely delicious, including the best cinnamon sticky buns I have ever had (compliments of star-baker Lannie, who aptly named them 'sin-a-bons)'.

During each breakfast, David shares a life story with all the guests. Each story is very moving and will change you because he shares his stories with an open heart and a gracious humility. Even our skeptical 21 year old said he was really touched by each morning's story.

We'll come back and hope to see some familiar faces when we do. Bring your group, your family and you will make new friends and create new memories for a lifetime.

Very limited cell signal on property. Breakfasts are wonderful, devotionals are God honoring, the hiking is excellent! Short drive to Uncompahgre, if you are wanting to knock out a 14er. David knows all the hiking in the area and when free to go with you; he is a delightful tour guide!

I came to the Inn at the Lake last year. I found it on the internet. It was such an awesome visit we came back this year. The breakfast served here differs everyday and it second to none. The devotional is during breakfast and just starts your day off right. The owners David and Rosie are constantly mingling with the guest. They have a volunteer staff that helps out daily. I worked on the staff this year and would recommend volunteering to anyone as well. It is a great experience. The bone fires at night are great for everyone.

Are you open in January?
Answer from rickstrack46
Bella Vista157 contributions54 helpful votes
The Inn at the Lake is not open in January due to travel conditions and possible roads not being open. It is a beautiful place in the colder winter months and would be wonderful to sit by the fire and take hikes in the snow, but the answer is NO, sadly! But go when you can, it is the best "rest and relaxation" place I have ever known! ENJOY! Rick
