Our favorite area of Colorado, Lake City is a beautiful little town situated in the San Juan Mountains in the south central part of the state. Inn at the Lake was the perfect place to spend two days of relaxing outdoor fun. The accommodations were very nice and included a wonderful, hearty breakfast. The Inn is situated directly across from Colorado's second largest lake and the views are incredible. Robert the inn keeper and his staff, do a masterful job of taking care of the guests. Also, the entrance to the Alpine Loop, a six hour wild excursion into the San Juan Range, is directly in front of the Inn. So take my advice, stay at the In at the Lake, rent a jeep in Lake City and have an adventure of a life time. Noleman 76
The Inn is the kind of lodge where everyone feels like friends and family. People engage in conversation hanging out on the deck or in the common area at the delicious breakfast or after dinner. It's entirely volunteer-run - volunteers come for a week at a time to do the housekeeping and breakfast service. Some have been coming for years and make the place feel like home for everyone. Our room was comfortable and cozy, with a simple and clean bathroom. The location is stunning. It's a few miles from town not near any services, in case you care about that.
There are many choices of where to stay in Lake City, and we are so glad we picked The Inn at the Lake. It was a hard choice not to stay right in town, but the short drive out to Lake San Cristobal was totally worth it. The views were beautiful...the star gazing amazing...and the customer service outstanding. The owners were the best, and their breakfasts were sooooo delicious.
The Inn at the Lake was such an enjoyable stay. The views were incredible. Friendly owners and staff create a fun pleasant time for all ages. They provided s’mores and a campfire in the evening and a lovely breakfast. The only recommendation I have is to bring a small fan to help bring in some of that cool mountain air into your room at night as it can get a little warm in those summer months! We are already planning our next stay!
An amazing place! We loved our three nights there. David and the staff were great and very friendly. Our room was rustic but comfortable, well appointed, and clean. The breakfasts were very good. Highly recommend!
Once in a rare while, you find a place that transcends even the beauty of its location, that exceeds expectations, and most importantly leaves an indelible mark on your memory, your soul. This is more than a B&B, when you stay here you truly feel welcome, you feel like family. The owner David was there during our stay and is one of the most genuine, open, and down to earth persons I have ever met. He shared stories from his life with us and other guests that moved us and gave us pause to reflect on all we have and all the goodness that can be there if we make an effort to look. The staff during our stay was an amazing group of people from Oklahoma. They were all volunteer, friends of the owner and we felt like we got to know them during our 6 night stay. Everyone made us feel so welcome, and the breakfasts that they created were absolutely delicious, including the best cinnamon sticky buns I have ever had (compliments of star-baker Lannie, who aptly named them 'sin-a-bons)'. During each breakfast, David shares a life story with all the guests. Each story is very moving and will change you because he shares his stories with an open heart and a gracious humility. Even our skeptical 21 year old said he was really touched by each morning's story. We'll come back and hope to see some familiar faces when we do. Bring your group, your family and you will make new friends and create new memories for a lifetime.…
This is my second year staying here. The couple that runs the lodge are the friendliest people you will ever meet. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. They make homemade breakfast each morning and sometimes start a bonfire and make s’mores in the evening. It’s on a beautiful lake in the mountains with a gorgeous mountain you can see right off of the porch. There’s little light pollution, so you can see so many stars. It’s worth the trip!
We loved the short time we were blessed to stay at the Inn. David and Rosie provide an atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home. The view cannot be beat and the time away from the busyness of most the overly populated areas of Colorado was exactly what we needed. Our 3 kiddos (11,9&6) never wanted to leave and are already begging to go back.
What's to say? The views, the inspirational breakfasts, the hiking & exploring, the hummingbirds, the fishing...all merge for an amazing getaway experience. Rosie & David are consummate hosts, knowledgeable about everything happening in Hinsdale County and beyond.
Not sure if there is much more I can say about this place that hasn't already been said but we were taken back by this place. Super cute and right near the lake with fantastic views. The place itself was very accommodating but the hosts David and Rosie were arguably the nicest people I have ever met in my life! An instant bond and friendship ensued! They cook an awesome breakfast each morning at no additional cost and would simply give you the shirt off of their back if that's what you needed. The cost to stay is also very inexpensive and you have access to County Rd 30 that gets you to some of the most beautiful scenery in the state. I could go on and on about this place and these folks but I think you should just come visit Lake City and spend some time with the Whitelocks yourself! Highly recommended and can't wait to come back to visit! Thank you so much David and Rosie!…
