At Hideaway, we are small enough to get to know you personally and big enough to give you room to breathe. We've opened the doors of this magical place we've lovingly called home for 30 years and we invite you to join us here and discover its very special charm. Hideaway is primarily a family owned and run entity and has its own distinct personality and style of service and is not for everyone. The relaxed and homely atmosphere has a certain panache and all our guests receive sensitive and personalised attention. Hideaway comprises 14 rooms in total: four double rooms and one triple room within the main villa, three family bungalows, four double bungalows and two air-conditioned double rooms - all discretely situated within the resort's gardens, furnished with a rustic charm that will nourish your mind and soul. We are now delighted to provide our guests with facilities for wellness and healing. We have added a pool, yoga pavilion and treatment center - the latter two operate daily during the season. Let us feed your body too! The quality of our cuisine is renowned for miles around and we are proud to share it with our guests and visitors. Our inviting restaurant, open for a relaxed breakfast, lunch and dinner, delivers the finest gastronomic encounters, courtesy of Sharon and her skilled team and carefully selected ingredients. We then travelled half way across Sri Lanka to go back for my birthday. It’s that good! We liked everything about hideaway. Staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. So are the owners and the guys who work at the bar. Friendly and helpful is a theme here. The place itself is great. Breakfast is fantastic. Everything is delicious. There is a really nice pool out the back. The bar and evening is family friendly and serves great pizza. I use a wheelchair and I’d like to say a big thank you to all the staff who helped me so often during my stay. It is no way wheelchair friendly but that didn’t matter with so many people offering their help. Arugam Bay is a great place to spend some time and we’d highly recommend Hideaway resort.Dear Ben and Bec, It was our pleasure to have you stay at Hideaway! It was a beautiful experience at this beautiful place. They were so welcoming and super friendly. The food was so yummy and had a class of its own. They were really generous with the portions. The staff was well trained, well mannered, really friendly yet so professional. The cafe at front is a great place to hangout with a beer and at night the bar starts it’s magic. DJ or awesome solo by the superstar Jeremy , man he’s gooood. Thank you for all the entertainment my friend you rock. Sharon the owner was a sweet lady she always goes out of her way to make sure the guests are happy so was the manager Carolyn. Dinusha and Mathi looked after us like family. We found our little hideaway in a magical corner of Sri Lanka. From the warm welcome, comfy rooms and warm cafe hospitality we enjoyed every part of what Hideaway offers. The breakfasts and evening meals were delicious and substantial - full of the very best of Sri Lankan ingredients and flavours and the staff always friendly. We gamely attempted Aero Yoga - which was a new but incredible experience for all of us and were indulged in the most wonderful massages. We will always dream about early morning surfing (lessons!) and coming back to the the hideaway for our breakfast juices and hearty breakfasts. The rooms doesn’t stand in the standard and for sure doesn’t worth the price. We couldn’t close the door of the room, we had a flood in the room and a lot of noise, no clean towels or linens and for sure the management of the hotel doesn’t understand how to handle problematic situations and make you feel uncomfortable when you mention the problems. I talked personally with the owner of the hotel and the response of her was ridiculous (no new linens because of COVID, meanwhile everywhere else is new and clean and etc..) The restaurant of the hotel is very good and also the location. The staff are nice but you don’t get a felling of home, we moved out asap.

We realised from the very beginning that Hideaway wasn’t a good fit for you – and with your negative attitude it was clear that no matter what we offered to support your stay, you were determined that nothing was going to be good enough. Despite upgrading you and moving you to one of our larger family bungalows when there was a plumbing issue (we can’t foresee such things – but of course we address them as soon as they happen), you continued to find things to be unhappy about. As for your comment about moving out as soon as possible? You had a 10 night booking and chose to stay for 6 nights - we upgraded you for 4 of those. The good news is that the room was rebooked the moment we encouraged you to move on by someone who was so happy to be able to stay at Hideaway. In terms of the noise – it is inaccurate and unfair to attribute this to Hideaway without any context. We are not in control of the music that is played around us – we can ONLY control what happens at Hideaway. We tried to help you with all your requests and to do the best we could to make your stay with us a positive one. You chose to see everything from a detrimental perspective and are now turning everything around to try and sully our name. Anyone choosing to travel to Sri Lanka at the moment should be aware that not only was the tourism sector impacted severely after the 2019 Easter bombings and then with 2 years of COVID, but last year's financial crisis brought the entire country to a standstill - and we are still feeling the ramifications of this with import restrictions, costs and inflation, and more. This is not an excuse - but a reminder that a little kindness and understanding goes a long way.

A place with a really great vibe, relaxed bohemian cafe with excellent food that's been made with a lot of thought. The staff and management are really nice. The bungalows are located meandering around the many trees and are cozy. It's right on the main strip, with the beach across the road, but with the rooms located inside and surrounded by trees, it is cut away from the noise of the street. We had a restful 5 days there

At the beginning of our stay in Arugam Bay, we booked another hotel, and we had a really bad experience after one night (long story short - frogs and lizards in our room). We tried to find the best place to continue our honeymoon and Hideaway Resort was definitely the right place! The staff were kind, friendly, and helpful. They tried to give us the best honeymoon experience and organized for us a romantic dinner with a special menu. We had an amazing time in Hideaway Resort and wish to come back one day!

Hide Away resort in Arugam Bay has friendly staff and daily yoga schedule in a spacious shala, led by exceptional yoga teachers. However, the bungalow rooms are a downside, being old and dark, lacking essential amenities and poor AC . Unfortunately, the high price does not match the room standards, making it less appealing for those seeking modern comforts.

We understand that your time in the Bay did not go as planned - and this may have affected your overall view of your stay. As evident in many other reviews, the majority of our guests appreciate the clean and elegantly simple rooms that we offer - as a haven from the hustle and bustle of the Bay. Whilst we do not have the latest gadgets, and do not offer amenities such as televisions, the rooms have all that is needed for a relaxing stay - including complimentary water, bathroom products, daily housekeeping, and more. Thank you for acknowledging our team, and our varied yoga schedule provided by a great group of teachers.. We trust that as you moved on to your next destination you found accommodation that met your requirements. We understand that everyone is looking for different things when booking accommodation - and isn't it great that we have choices and there is such a range available... The atmosphere here is just wow wow wow. It’s another level and you will see/feel that instantly. Fast service, excellent staff, good food, the best drinks in the area, very cozy sitting areas, like in a tree for example. They also have good live music. You have to visit Hideaway.

I have eaten at this cafe twice and had a bad experience twice. The first time I was there with my husband and the bald waiter in a skirt did not bring us the bill, but simply called the amount for dinner. He called for an amount of 400 rupees more. My husband and I did not say anything about this and decided that he decided to take this money for tea. The second time I went to dinner alone and ordered rolls and coconut there. It all came out for 4200 rupees. I gave this waiter 5,000 rupees and he stood for a long time and explained to me that he would now bring me change, hoping that I would leave him a tip and say that change was not needed. He left and returned with 500 rupees and began to convince me that I gave him instead of 5000 rupees - 500 rupees. Such impudence surprised me very much and I told him that I gave him 5000 rupees and I remember it exactly. Then he called the manager and they came up to me together and started telling me that they did not have 5,000 rupees in the cash register. I did not continue to prove anything to them and simply gave another 5,000 rupees. As a result, I paid 10,000 rupees for dinner.…

Greetings, We have already responded to the same allegation with your Google review. We do of course take such an allegation seriously although we were very surprised to hear it was against one of our longest serving staff members. Our manager followed it up at the time, and we have also investigated and follow up further. We are sorry to hear that you feel you have been overcharged and paid twice for our service. We value your trust and satisfaction, and do we want to assure you there was nothing untoward in this case. According to our records, a single payment of LKR 5 000 was made on the 19th May. We did not receive any other payment from you nor did we charge you again. It was a quiet evening in our restaurant, so it was very easy for our staff, who are used to managing busier nights, to keep track of payments and there were no discrepancies in our evening reconciliation. We also offered to show you the cash drawer and the record of bills/payments for the evening. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. I cannot recommend Hideaway enough. We had a beautiful quiet little cabin set back from the road, nice pool, amazing food and yoga each morning. Our highlights were the two trips we took with Shohan at Hideaway Experiences (mangroves and lagoon fish BBQ). Shohan is an amazing host and it's incredible food.

We - 2 adults + 2 children aged 8 and 9 - stayed at Hideaway for one week in April 2023. The bungalow no. 7 was perfect for us. Close to the restaurant if you wanted to enjoy a drink when the kids were sleeping. The whole resort is beautifully maintained, the rooms are very nice and the beds are comfortable. The staff is outstanding and always looking after the guests. Yoga classes are offered every day. The yoga and pool area are in the back of the resort where it is peaceful and quiet. There is also a lady that offers great massages. During the week we tried everything on the day menu and the food is delicious. Also here, the staff is doing an outstanding job. Thanks to everyone at Hideaway for making our stay special!

Extremely overpriced for what you get. You can experience a far better and more luxury service at places a third of the price in Sri Lanka. Rooms are nice, there's a peaceful vibe but it's an expensive wellness resort where you have to pay. You get one small dish for breakfast and have to pay for yoga. The waiter at the bar was very unwelcoming and didn't seem to enjoy working there.

Whilst as a small, independent property, we do all we can to meet the individual requirements of our guests - this is not always possible - and we understand that sometimes things are just not a good match. Breakfast for our in-house guests is served at our cafe - with the same menu choices as our outside guests. Naturally the portion size can vary between the different options - but there is a great range to choose from. For our in-house guests, breakfast also include tea or coffee, and a juice or a fruit platter. We are sorry to hear about the service that you received, and will follow that up with our team.
