Very friendly people, clean rooms and good service. We had an excellent stay in the danish Villa. The Manager and the crew are very friendly and helpful. The roomservice is good. The hotel is a wonderful place to be. If I come back I will stay here again.

We booked 2 rooms which were described as deluxe. One was simple but nice and comfortable but the other only had a window opening onto the communal area, it had no hot shower, a bad smell and the double bed had two thin foam mattresses pushed together on it. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka so we'd thought it would be at least as good as all the lovely and comfy rooms we've stayed at. After 2 uncomfortable nights the kind and helpful manager suggested we move to the 2 garden rooms as there was no-one else staying. Given that these are the most expensive rooms we assumed they would both be better. However, although they offered more space and both had windows and hot showers, the mattresses in both rooms were really thin and foamy and we left with back ache! While the hotel is in a lovely old building and the location is central yet quiet, it's certainly a stretch to call it a boutique hotel--decor is very plain, the garden is nice but there's a bit of a feel that it's seen better days, and they don't provide any extras you might expect such as shower gel, hairdryers, beach towels, water. All in all it was OK but probably not worth the price, especially if you end up with a bad room.

Nice and clean room with creative details. I like the large living area in the middle where I can find books and board games. Plenty of places to sit and play. It is a homey atmosphere. Love the breakfast here sitting next to the garden.

We are confused about why this place has received such glowing reviews in the past. It was perfectly functional but not amazing. Firstly, the property has no character and is unexciting when compared to the other guest houses along the main strip. The staff were less friendly than everyone else we have come across during our travels in Sri Lanka. The garden bungalow room was very basic. The bathroom had a bad drainage smell and the main shower was cold water only (barely any water came out of the hot water shower head). The AC (which we had to pay extra for) seemed to struggle cooling the room. The mattress was very bad, the manager even came to the room to tell us it was bad and a new one had been ordered (just not in time for us!). Overall, disappointed!

We arrived without a reservation and in desperate need of rest (due to previous sub-par accommodation) and we were made to feel completely at home. The Manager, Thahir was able to find us a delightful room for the night that was spotlessly clean, air-conditioned, well-appointed and had a comfy bed. We were provided with towels for the beach in addition to our bathroom towels and the icing on the cake was the most delicious, ice-cold, lemon juice (think American-style lemonade). Thank you so much Thahir - we really appreciated the welcome. Danish Villas has a good length driveway that allows it both a central location and a quiet, tranquility within the hustle and bustle of busy Arugam Bay. The WiFi was reliable which is rare in Sri Lanka and the communal area was welcoming and comfortable. Highly recommended.

We stayed at The Danish Villa for four nights and I basically has a pleasant time there. It’s not a boutique hotel as some described it before but nice and simple. We slept in one of the bungalows which was good cause some of the ‚normal rooms‘ in the tiny main building don’t even have a window. Seize of room was sufficient, bathroom was clean, big enough & absolutely ok (and I‘m pretty picky...). Host Tahir is very helpful and always asked if we need anything else - towels, extra cleaning, lime juice with salt 🤨. Moreover he organized all our trips and the prizes were more than reasonable. Good host! If there would‘ve been anything negative I would say: the mattresses. Unfortunately very thin and made of a cheap foamish material. Maybe the owner should’ve invested a bit more in this section as guests always want to enjoy a good sleep. Bones are hurting after a few hours😖 But all in all a very good alternative to all the lousy beach cabanas and „hotels“ directly by the ocean (most of them are just 💩).

We stayed for more than a week and thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful colonial-style villa. Perfectly located in the middle of Arugam Bay with only 1 minute to the beach and a wealth of eating opportunities within walking distance, we had everything we needed for a relaxing time. Thahir and his staff was extremely delightful and service minded - they cared for our every need and answered every question we had about our onwards journey. If you are looking for a nice and quiet place to unwind in beautiful surroundings, this is your perfect spot in Arugam Bay.

We extended our stay here to five nights as arugam bay is awesome. The Danish villa is set off the street so very peaceful, however still remains in the centre of bars, shops and stalls. The manager and staff and super helpful and friendly we booked our safari through them and it was amazing. All we would say is that unless you need a cheap stay book the ac room. Can't recommend this place enough.
