I don't even want to give one star, it is by default. We had one of the worst experiences ever. We traveled for an urgent travel meeting, where we got to know about this place by a friend of ours. Before we left Colombo, we called and made a booking. It was for a triple room. And we told we would be arriving late at night after 1.30 AM approximately. Because of the traffic and the long drive took us to reach the destination by 3.00 AM. Once we arrived, we have shown a room. But everything else was fine. We had a great sleep. We thought of having breakfast in the morning, but none of the staff members seemed to greet or treat about it, so we went out to have breakfast. While on the way, we got a call from the manager to check whether we were inside the room. We thought they would ask about the breakfast or tea, but it was regarding the money. And we quickly came back to pay an advance and to pay the rest while we were leaving. That's when we got to know that manager wanted us to check out by 11.30 AM. We were shocked, and we asked what's the reason. He was talking in an insulting manner, saying that they'd already given this place to some foreign people, so we had to leave. And they told us the standard checkout time is 11.30, so be it. We spoke to them politely we will pay if you need more money, we just arrived here, and none of your staff informed this earlier. We even called you before leaving Colombo. And we asked what we were supposed to do now? And we are Advertising Agency who does all sort of Video, Documentary & Film making. We thought of filming the place and give a good video for them, as it was a pandemic time. And we said that too, and we got another rude answer, Saying my boss is into Tourism, so we don't need your video and stuff. You can pay and leave. We felt offended by the way he spoke to us, and we told him that we would write a review regarding this situation. And he said, please do whatever you want, but pay me. And I asked one question what the difference between the new client and us is? Is it the skin color you are talking about? No answer from him. It was embarrassing to us, so we decided to leave that place after paying. And we left the area around 10.00 AM. As Sri Lankans, we got very insulting treatment. I thought people who are in this business had got hospitality and kindness. And it's nothing free, that we pay too. I see that there is always a difference between a Dollar and a Rupee. I am writing this because our entire team's mood spoiled once we encountered a situation like that. We never expect this to happen to anyone, from Colombo to Arugambay, a long drive. I hope the management take some action regarding this. But I doubt it because of the way he spoke in an insulting manner. I guess this place is only suitable for white skin people who come from abroad. I hope you get my point. Thank you.…
Its a bit dated but for the price its an amazing deal. Safe secure clean-ish. We had issues with water in our room as the water pump had to activated manually each time we wanted to shower but that was an easy fix. Staff was raw and untrained but again for the price good enough. Its a good deal, stay here
Rundown property I must state. negelected in many ways.(Toilets,Windows,curtains, surroundings etc etc) Got locked out many times due to faulty room door lock. What is shown in the photos on their website is completely different when one visits the place. The only positive point about the place is the staff been friendly and helpfull.
This is the best hotel that I have been in Arugambay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean. Swimming pool is very clean , I just love the ambiance and enjoyed the sunset while having a swim . Location is super worth as most of the tourist spots are in a walking distance. Special thanks to Mr. Pradeep who arranged everything perfectly for us. I will definitely return to this fabulous hotel . Good luck
We had a fantastic stay at Arugambey podbay.The room was clean and functional.we loved staying here with great staff. Specially "Ramis"who made us feel so welcome so stayed another night. Thank you very much Ramis about your great hospitality .
Centrally located, helpful and friendly staff. The pods and chalets are very clean. Beach is clean and secluded. The sun lounger areas were cleaned daily and relaxing. The pool was amazing, cleaned daily and big enough for a good crowd. The breakfast was fabulous, with great portions, big glasses of fresh juice, eggs and freshly made dhal and pol sambol. The rotis were delicious. Every staff member we met was nice and helpful. No lunch or dinner but there are plenty of restaurants just a short walk away. Great for young kids as well. Safe.
Loved staying here with great staff, specially Ramis who made us feel so welcome so we stayed another night. Great beds, ac, bathroom with hot water. Pool was immaculate as were the gardens. Centre of town to visit other places so easy to walk. Next to amigo surf which was great for a lesson and loved eating at Mantra directly opposite.
We had a fantastic stay at Arugam podbay. We stayed in a home pod which was the cheapest room. The room was basic but perfectly clean and functional, breakfast was served each morning. We were given clean towels upon request but no daily house keeping which we had not expected for the price (although this may have been possible upon request). The beach front location is excellent and is difficult to beat particularly including the use of the pool. Staff were pleasant and happy to help. All in all would recommend and would stay again.
First i want to say that we are not complainers or people who expect too much.. But this was the most horrible expercience we ever had in our holidays. The room was extremely dirty. With dirty i mean: ants, stains in the sheets, broken window, spider poo, dirty floor and the filty (green?!) poolwater. The first day we ask if the room was cleaned, they said yes and gave us new bed sheets. These where even worser then the ones before.. really big yellow stains on it. Really dirty. The next day we said to the manager this hotel was too dirty, and we wanted too leave. He just smiled and said nothing?! Didn’t get our money back or an excuses. The €50/60 per night was way too much for this.. Even for €1 i wouldn’t go there ever again. If you want to enjoy Arugam Bay, don’t go here!! …
Just back from a 6 night stay at Podbay. This is a relatively new resort at Arugam Bay with so much potential- great staff, location and range of rooms i. offer however there’s so much work to do to ensure this reaches its full potential! Bare cables all around the pool and ceilings and walls in the rooms. Worn, broken and old furniture in rooms, the fridges in the Bay Pods were full of rust, room cleaned only once in 6 days, had to empty the bin ourselves and ask for more toilet roll and towels - this was the most expensive stay but the worst level of service. A little bit more work and this could be excellent!
