Hipsters - Arugambay is a hotel with a beach bar and a restaurant where you can relax on the beach and enjoy the night life.we are located near to the main surfing point so you can easily take your board and catch some early morning waves meet other travelers and live with lots of happy vibes around you. we play parties on every thursday night and it is one of the famous party day in town.
I can’t recommend staying here. Some of the staff is very rude and the toilet was not working for three days, maybe more. It also smells really bad. When I went to the „reception“ to complain and ask when they fix the toilet, as the hostel is not cheap either, they started yelling and said I shall just check out if I hate it that much. Also really uncomfortable beds.
We stayed at hipsters in Arugam Bay for over a week. Lanka the owner and all the staff we had interactions with were super friendly and helpful. I believe the place has moved as it wasn’t beachfront as shown in the pictures/description. But nonetheless only a short walk to the bay and main point and just at the top end of the main road - no transport necessary for around town! The beds were comfy, rooms very clean and aircon worked a treat! The attached cafe is also really good and plays decent music. Really good coffee, faves like avo on toast and top quality smoothie bowls. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend hipsters and would definitely stay again!
We stayed for a week after meeting the Host, Lanka, in Kandy. The guy is beyond helpful and really does that extra bit to make you feel at home and make sure everything is going well. Super happy, smiling positive guy. Which sometimes Arugam Bay can be missing. The staff are always around to assist and point you in the right direction as well. Onsite is secret alley cafe which is one of the better places to eat in town. The quality is on par with the swanky places but half the price. We stayed in an AC room which is a necessity A bay is HOT. Really competitive prices and really clean. Highly recommend this place.
Have stayed here two years running for a long stretch both times. The place is great! Rooms are clean and two now have A/C (the rest have fans), beds are comfy and the guys running it are legends. Really feels like a home from home. Its really close to the beach and to town but has enough open space that it has a chilled vibe thats hard to find in Abay. Secret Alley cafe is on site as well and is great - yummy food and juices. Smoothie bowls are next level and its the only good coffee i had in Abay. Great place.
As a girl travelling alone I really really needed their support and advice because a local guy was bothering me A LOT and I got scared. Instead they told me I had to leave bc they were afraid that that local guy would do something to THEIR HOSTEL. Not nice people to let a girl just walk away when she needed help. Sad. Not even a clean place. Do NOT stay here
