We chose the pousada based on its website, on which the photos look very promising and inviting. The best part about the stay was the view. You have uninterrupted views into the valley and the national park from your balcony. There is also a nice pool on the premises. The manager was polite. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. It only has a ceiling fan, so in the afternoon the room gets very hot and despite the ceiling fan, it doesn’t really cool down until early in the morning hours. It was disappointing to get to the room with torn sheets and stained towels. The manager wasn’t aware of this, hence there are no proper checks on housekeeping. He did not seem particularly fazed about it either. Bathrooms are small but manageable. As the pousada is a farm, there are many flies and other insects. The rooms aren’t properly fumigated, and the mosquitos et al are bothersome. Breakfast is no big deal, nothing to rave about. Most of the food is placed on a table out in the open, with flies abound. Poor value for money. I would not stay here again.

We spent two nights here, paying around GBP 60 per night for a double with breakfast at the weekend. Since the pousada is away from the town centre, about 2 km down a very rutted dirt track, you really need your own wheels, especially as the pousada does not provide evening meals. We arrived (and left) by bus from Belo Horizonte and the manager, Alexander, kindly picked us up and dropped us off. At night, he booked us a taxi to take us into town for dinner and to collect us (cost around Reals 25 total). It's rustic but comfortable accomodation. Great view of the mountains. Good breakfast. The fridge in the room comes equipped with drinks but no prices. There is a swimming pool and, the pousada's specialty, lots of horses. It's a 500 metre walk to the park entrance but this is a back entrance, not the main one. You register your info. before entering the park and get given a basic map showing you the way to the nearest waterfalls (about 7 km hike so allow 14-15 km there and back) involving some crossing of tributaries and rivers. It's not difficult terrain. On the second day, Alexander kindly ferried us to another park entrance so that we could visit some of the other waterfalls like Grande, which didn''t require any hiking at all. You need to book through the pousada's website. Alexander speaks English (but he's the only one).
