Everything was perfect! The bed and linens were so comfortable, the room was clean and stocked well. The owners were very nice and accommodating. Banana bread was the best ever! Excellent location, just 2 min from downtown

Upon arriving you are kindly welcomed and given delicious homemade banana bread! The rooms have every amenity you would need and they are so clean! My teenage daughters enjoyed the hot tub and stocked game cabinet. The owners abundant knowledge of the area and suggestions for activities can not be beat, as they go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay and want to return!

We got married at Point Park in September of 2021 and selected the Black Bear Lodge as the hotel for all our out of town family. We were not disappointed! Therese and Robert were wonderful to us THE WHOLE WAY! Finding a place to do a group booking is a bit of a trick in Grand Lake. Black Bear Lodge is super cute on the outside and the rooms are lovely! The decor is totally mountain vibe—if you’re looking for fancy city chic maybe reconsider Grand Lake as your destination. ;) In our room linens were fresh and white, water hot, mattress and pillows comfy and the bed even had a throw. The whole place was clean and charming! As far as we know all of our guests had a great experience. (And we rented 15 of the 17 rooms). During the pandemic Therese and Robert were understaffed (as was everything) but they kept everything clean and even had delicious banana bread to welcome each of our guests. They spelled everything out for us clearly with regards to the group reservation process and followed through exactly as expected. Rates for Grand Lake, high season, were VERY reasonable. Communications were punctual and friendly. Even as we were checking out we had to return for a left item. Robert, who was cleaning the room himself, found my father-in-law’s sock and delivered with a smile, thanking us for our visit. Our guests all visited for the family gathering (held at Point Park and elsewhere in town). Black Bear Lodge delivered lovely accommodations and service so that we could rest well and enjoy our time together! Highly recommend!

We stayed at Black Bear Lodge for 3 nights and would have loved to of stayed for a week. We had two rooms for our family and both were unbelievably clean and comfortable. The homemade banana bread we received at check in was very delicious and really great with morning coffee. This place is a blast from the past. The days of small hotel owners truly caring about their guest and taking pride in the upkeep and cleanliness of the whole place and making sure everything is good for you. That is exactly what you get here from Robert and Therese and staff. We were asked daily if we needed anything and if everything with our rooms was fine. If we needed something they were very helpful. Very relaxing, comfortable and peaceful stay and enjoyed sitting out in front of the hotel each morning and evening taking in the mountains. They have two grills and picnic tables if you want to cook out instead of eating out. Just all around great place to stay for the price that you pay and highly recommend it. Robert and Therese are very caring people and it definitely shows when you stay at Black Bear Lodge. Really enjoyed the opportunity to talk with them a few times during our stay. They are excellent hosts! Our family will definitely be back to stay at Black Bear Lodge!

We had a very nice stay at Black Bear Lodge. It felt like a throwback to the good old days without the place seeming outdated. Our room was clean, the bed and pillows were fantastic. The price is great! We are used to paying all the extra taxes and this place just had one small tax, which was nice. We were greeted warmly and given our banana bread (which I ate single-handedly since my daughter doesn't like banana bread!) The location is 2 miles from town so we could easily get in town to shop, eat, hike, kayak, etc. The room also has a microwave and mini-fridge. Things to note: there was a shower and not a tub. Also, there is no AC. The windows were open when we got into our room and the room was cool. Also, the lodge is not that far from the highway so you do hear some traffic, but it wasn't bad. They have a hot tub on site but we didn't use it. If I come back to Grand Lake, I will most likely stay here again. It was a pleasant experience.

Response from Therese McGraw, Owner at Black Bear Lodge of Grand Lake
Responded Jul 9, 2021
Thank you for your remarks. We are glad that you had a good stay with us. Our high altitude climate is unique in that during July and August the high temperatures are between 67 and 83 degrees with humidity levels in the 50% range. Most days, the high temps are in the low 70s. The temperatures drop back down by 5:00 or so, with low nighttime temps between 36 and 50 degrees. No local residences, and very few businesses have air-conditioning in Grand Lake. We do provide oscillating fans in each of our rooms for folks who need further air circulation, white noise, or simply like very cool temperatures in their room. Our thick, solid wood walls help to keep our rooms quiet and cool.

We just spent 2 nights at Black Bear Lodge. We will be back. We liked the proximity to town and to the lake. Very quiet and relaxing. Loved the hot tub and sauna, very clean and super comfortable bed. If you are looking for a resort type place with all the over the top bells and whistles this is not the place for you. If you are looking for simplicity and comfort, peace and quiet you will love this place.

We had a lovely stay at the Black Bear Lodge. Theresa’s homemade banana bread was excellent, and our room was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. We used the hot tub which was a great treat on a snowy, winter day.

Where else on earth are you welcomed with sincere and friendly hospitality, let alone a fresh baked loaf of Banana Bread? Super comfy, quiet and clean room and grounds, close to all you could ever need in the area! Haven't slept that well for a while!
