This was a surprise trip for my 11-year-old son, who had never been riding before and he has declared it "the best holiday I have ever been on including Disney World!" It was well-organised with great, enthusiastic staff who worked incredibly hard to ensure we all had a good time. The Fosha family were ever-present and took a very hands-on approach to everything from taking groups out on trails to evening entertainment and even ziplining. Being riding novices, we found the wranglers patient, helpful and reassuring. The rides were geared very much to what we were comfortable doing - the landscape is absolutely stunning. The accommodation is was what I would term 'rustic' but comfortable. Take mosquito repellant and sunscreen. One of the guests brought padded cycling shorts with him - I envied him! The other guests were absolutely lovely: warm, friendly and interesting. Many were regulars. My son was kept busy and entertained at all times and we felt secure in the knowledge that he was being well-supervised. He cried at bedtime on the last 2 days because he didn't want to leave. That's a great review in itself!…
Just finished our family’s 8th visit to DWR. The Fosha family and their staff are sincerely some of the nicest people you’ll ever come across. They truly care about your experience and do every they can to enhance it. The horses are well cared for, and so are their riders!
My husband and I chose DWR as a special way to spend one-on-one time with our twelve year old grandson. It was a fantastic week. He has been developing an interest in horses and riding, and even though we left home with a young man, we returned home with a Cowboy. Hosted by the rightfully proud owners, Ken and Randy Sue, and their family there are plenty of activities for all ages. In keeping with a ranch, the accommodations are charming and cozy. Housekeeping deservingly takes pride in their daily maid service. The hearty, family-style meals are lovingly prepared using many ingredients from the ranch. My vegetarian diet was deliciously accommodated. The wranglers know their stuff and the ranch and love sharing what they know. One morning ride included breakfast on one of the ranch’s mountains. My husband and I did not ride at every available opportunity, but our cowboy did. There were several other early teens all entertained and engaged by counselors assigned to them. They have activities for all ages all led by helpful, courteous staff. There is nightly entertainment including, a carnival, square dancing, hay rides and campfires. The grounds and buildings are well maintained. The horses are lovingly cared for and assigned to individual riders for the week - each matched with size and experience of the individual rider. Don’t miss the running of the horses. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful week!…
My husband & I were looking for a vacation that our 15 year old horseback riding granddaughter would enjoy - boy did we find it! Our ages ranged from 14 to 71 and all of us could participate in everything. The ranch is inviting and cozy, the staff couldn’t be any more pleasant and helpful, the family-style meals were delicious (and accommodated our gluten intolerant daughter), and you could be as busy (or not) as you wanted. Each day you could take multiple trail rides, there was zip-lining on site (and not tiny runs - these were over valleys), penning, a rodeo for the kids, square dancing and carnival & staff talent nights. Hot sulfur springs are nearby and white water rafting down the Colorado too. The cabins are clean with housekeeping services each morning, beach towels are provided for the on-site pool & hot tub, hayrides & bonfires and so much more. This family owned ranch will not disappoint!…
Drowsy Water Ranch is incredible. Their horses are so good, the staff excellent and the food delicious. The attention to the guests is excellent. I had so much fun riding the beautiful hills. The wranglers give lessons on loping making the trail rides fun. I can’t recommend the ranch enough.
Drowsy Water Ranch was as magical and amazing this, our ninth summer at the ranch, as it was the first time we were here. My husband and I brought our granddaughters here for their birthdays when they were 6 and 7 years old. We had planned to take them on different adventures each year. Fortunately for us, even at their young ages, they recognized a special place run by a wonderful family and insisted that this was the only place they wanted us to bring them. We are as happy to come back to the ranch every summer as they are! You can read all about the ranch, the horses, the accommodations, the activities, the great friends you will make, etc. but it is impossible to understand the magic of this place until you experience it for yourself. If you and/or members of your family have any interest in an authentic western ranch vacations do yourselves a favor and reserve a week at DWR. Our family loves the ranch, the horses, and the Foshas who make us feel like family, and our week with them is the highlight of our summer.…
It was great! Nice and beautiful horses. Great kids and adults programs. Great staff it was just so amazing. I want to go back. Our whole family had a lot of fun. The heated pool was great because it was cold.🐴😁
My family recently returned from our third trip to Drowsy Water Ranch. We enjoy the variety of activities available throughout the week. Horseback riding is our favorite activity and we often did two rides a day. One day we did an all day ride up to music mountain where we had lunch on the top. We came back down through a scenic aspen grove called aspen slide. The supper ride up to the honeymoon cabin was a new addition for us in addition to zip lining over the ranch. Can't believe I'm eager to do that again. The breakfast ride is always fun, great food, and family photos are taken after breakfast. We did some hiking and mountain biking. Then there is the hay ride, western sing along, smores, hot chocolate, country western dancing, talent show and other fun activities that are planned for each night. My daughter's team came in first place in team penning, narrowly beating my team by nine seconds. After our afternoon horse rides we always headed to the outdoor hot tub to loosen up any sore muscles and enjoy the scenery. On this visit we saw a bear, moose, deer, ranch dogs and assorted critters. The meals and desserts are excellent. There are some talented people in the kitchen and we always looked forward our next meal. Hot coffee is available in the kitchen all day. The ranch hands that serve your meals, clean your cabin and lead the trail rides are super friendly, top notch and often return for several summers as they too like spending time of the ranch. The Fosha family has thought of everything to make your stay at their family ranch memorable. We have booked our cabin for next summer and look forward to seeing the friends we made, next year.…
Last year as a family we decided to skip the whole Christmas shebang and plan a dream family vacation. Wow! I am so glad we did! It was the best decision ever! We all collectively arrived on Sunday and were greeted by the kindest, warmest staff, the most spectacular setting in a beautiful valley surrounded by the vast Rocky Mountains. This is truly an authentic old school dude ranch. Beautiful and quaint little log cabins scattered throughout the property to offer just enough privacy yet at the same time you felt like part of a small intimate village that left the rest of the world behind in the best way. Dinners are all served family style in the main dining hall, there are multiple community gathering areas to chat, watch the children play and run, watch the wranglers get the horses ready for the day and rest and relax before the next activity. The days start early with a full cooked to order breakfast then off to a trail ride (the wranglers tell some fantastic stories as well), fishing, white water rafting, hiking or even mountain biking. You are paired with your horse for the week and the staff goes to great lengths to make sure you are paired with the right horse. They have horses for EVERY skill level. (Beware -you WILL form a bond over horsey treats, nuzzles and head rubs and it will be really REALLY hard to say goodbye) There is entertainment in the evenings like campfires, music and a super fun variety show. The kids will also put on a really fun rodeo. There will be early morning breakfast rides, dinner rides and your heart will find a new love for the great outdoors, newfound friends who will now feel like family and the Fosha's and their incredible and dedicated staff -many of which have returned every summer for years (when asking one wrangler about her experience working at the ranch-she got tears in her eyes and expressed her love and sentiment for the Fosha's becoming a second family and how the ranch felt like home). The experience will leave you longing to return and (intelligently) booking your trip for the following year.…
The whole experience was outstanding! The food was amazing and the horses where the best. Cow penning was a highlight of the trip (although it’s near impossible to pick just one highlight). Billy-jean is a cow penning queen.
