This was a favorite family vacation. There were so many activities for the kids and adults to do. The food was amazing, the staff was amazing! The wranglers knew every horse and their characteristics. Highly recommend!

Our visit to the C Lazy U Ranch over the Memorial Day holiday proved to be our best family vacation ever.  Our boys are at ages (20, 18 and 15) where it's hard to find family trips everyone will enjoy. But at the C Lazy U Ranch, we had so many incredible experiences bonding as a family while horseback riding, mountain biking, fly fishing, trap shooting and just hanging out by the fire in the evening.  The staff at the ranch were simply wonderful - everyone was so welcoming, engaging and instructive in helping guide us all through every activity.   The food was fantastic.

While our visit occurred in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, we felt safe and secure.  Staff were diligent in looking out for everyone's safety. All touch points were sanitized without fail (including saddles, shotguns, fly rods and even water bottles). Food and drink were handled with care. Social distancing was maintained, but in a manner in which everyone could still engage with staff and other guests at the ranch.  It was so refreshing to have a getaway where fears over Covid-19 faded away.

Our family couldn't be more thankful of the opportunity to visit the C Lazy U Ranch.  It's truly a special place run by a group of incredible people.

Dear imh-Boulder, Thank you for your thoughtful TripAdvisor review. We appreciate your kind feedback and are so pleased the C Lazy U Ranch provided the perfect escape during uncertain times. The ranch truly is the ideal destination during our nation’s crisis. We have invested a great deal of time and energy in ensuring we can provide a safe environment and I am grateful that you acknowledged and appreciated our efforts. Not only are we honoring safe operating procedures required by county, state and federal but we’ve adopted some additional efforts that are ranch specific. We had the pleasure of staying at C Lazy U this month and left feeling relaxed, reconnected with our family, and well-cared for. At the outset, it was clear that the management and staff had put into place numerous COVID precautions, yet there is so much to experience and enjoy outside that we didn't feel constrained; we simply appreciated how much the staff was doing to ensure the comfort of the guests.

Although the property itself is huge and magnificent (~9,000 acres I believe), with rolling pastures, wooded hills, beautifully constructed and decorated guest cabins and main buildings, it was the staff that truly made our experience memorable. From the General Manager (who was personally present at most meals throughout our stay) to the stable staff, servers and counselors who made our kids' time unforgettable, each member of the C Lazy U team was thoughtful in anticipating our needs, genuinely friendly and engaging, and down to earth in a way that meshed beautifully with the surroundings. It was apparent that these folks like each other and appreciate where they work, and that seems to carry over to the way they take care of their guests.

Unlike the previous reviewer, we did not sense any discord with the members or that we somehow received a lesser experience or different treatment. Indeed, we generally didn't know who was a member and who wasn't. The few members we did meet were very friendly and actually helpful in giving us tips on activities and areas to explore. I would consider them more of an asset to the property than anything else.

The cabins are "high-end rustic". The beds (the most important feature of any room in our opinion) were incredibly comfortable with soft linens. We enjoyed reading on the porch and watching the sky, hills and pond in the distance.

Finally, each meal and course was constructed with creativity yet anchored in a foundation of mountain life that we appreciated. We were told that the chef is new to the property with an impressive resume and he is clearly an asset that should be retained.

Our entire family is looking forward to a return to C Lazy U soon.

This Ranch is a flawed concept. C Lazy U’s first priority is not to be a resort, serving the needs of guests. Rather C Lazy U is real estate development more akin to a country club that has Members that have purchased multi-million dollar homes on the property and receive tax benefits for doing so. There is a huge difference between being a Member at C Lazy U and being a Guest at C Lazy U. Members of the ranch receive a wholly different and better level of service than those who have paid to stay at the ranch in one of the so-so cabins. Guests of the ranch are treated more like unwanted house visitors of the Members. I can’t help to believe that the exorbitant fees paid by Guests help offset the operating costs of the ranch (horses, activities, food, facilities) which the Members can use at their leisure. A large portion of the guests that were at the ranch when we were there voiced similar feelings of being unwanted and generally disappointed with the service and amenities. I hope they speak up as well.

While we give the ranch credit for addressing COVID related issues, those rules were often ignored by Member families. While Guests were required to wear masks and gloves while mounting the horses, we witnessed Member families openly ignoring those requirements. Additionally we were instructed that the the fitness facility was limited to 2 people at a time. However on multiple occasions, while in the facility complying with the 2 person rule, I witnessed 3-4 teenage children of the Member families would enter facility and proceed to work out. Again rules don’t apply to them.

While I admit they do have a loyal group of repeat visitors, I do not think those visitors have been to similar luxury ranch properties such as the Ranch at Rock Creek, Paws Up, the Lodge at Brush Creek and Alisal. What is also painful is having the owner and senior staff tell you how great their resort is. They clearly have not seen how other truly first class resorts work. The cost of C Lazy U is very comparable and in some cases more than what you pay at other Western luxury dude ranches mentioned earlier. Whether it be service, food, flexibility, C Lazy U is woefully behind other places we have stayed.

If planning a trip like this do yourself a favor, go to a real resort that puts guests first and isn’t bothered with the distraction of Members. You will pay the same amount and actually feel prioritized. I would hope C Lazy U management would take this message to heart but I can’t see how they can change because then the Members would have to be on the same level as Guests but Members sign the paychecks so don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.

Response from C Lazy U, General Manager at C Lazy U Ranch
Responded Jun 22, 2020
Dear TravelBudeee34, Thank you for your TripAdvisor review. I’m saddened that the membership component of the ranch left you feeling disappointed about the quality of your experience at the C Lazy U Ranch. I can assure you that ranch management and ownership work collectively to deliver the same high-quality guest experience to both members and guests. In fact, every member family was first a guest of the ranch and simply wanted to make an investment in raising their children in the wholesome environment we provide. For that reason, our members have become wonderful ranch ambassadors who eagerly look forward to welcoming our guests to the ranch each week. I will absolutely take your member related COVID concerns to heart and will issue communication clearly stipulating the safety precautions our employee team has so carefully adopted. Finally, I regret that you did not bring these concerns to our attention while you are on-site. I know our team would have worked diligently to address any concerns related to your personal experience with service, food or flexibility as you mention in your review. Ultimately both the guests and members represent the harmonious marriage of two wonderful entities that have great care for the ranch and appreciate the wholesome experience we provide. Just last night members and guests alike loudly applauded as we sabered a bottle of champagne to recognize a guest family who’s been coming to the C Lazy U Ranch for 50 years. Thank you for your feedback. David Craig General Manager

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the C Lazy U Ranch. The Ranch has a very intimate feel. The managers speak with all the guests daily. The general manager even serves guests “cowboy coffee” in the morning.

The staff had masks on at all times and asked that guests mask up when mounting horses. The Covid precautions were noticeable but not intrusive. They have found a good balance keeping guests and staff safe while maintaining comfortable environment for all.

Of course, you come to the ranch to enjoy the outdoor experience. Our wrangler, Abby, was knowledgeable and fun. My husband, an experience fisherman, learned a lot fly fishing with Austin. He also enjoyed the trap shooting experience with Jackson.

The food was wonderful and plentiful, since you work up an appetite being outside all day. We dined al fresco for every meal, which was perfect given the beautiful Colorado summer weather. I understand that guest can also chose to dine in their rooms. The accommodations are very comfortable and spacious.

My one regret is that we had not discovered the ranch sooner! My kids would have loved the children and teen programs available.

Dear Lisa S, Thank you kindly for your heartfelt review. I appreciate that you felt safe and comfortable with the initiatives we’ve adopted in this COVID crisis. Thank you for mentioning “Cowboy Coffee” - it is my favorite time of day, as we watch the ranch come alive, the fish cresting in the pond, the horses being saddled, birds awakening and providing a cheerful background melody, the dew burning off the morning grass and excited families beginning to congregate for breakfast and getting ready to ride. I don’t think any Starbuck’s can boast about that kind of morning! I hope the C Lazy U becomes a part of your family’s summer tradition. Best wishes and thank you, David Craig General Manager

We just returned from a long weekend trip with my son and his family. This trip was a gift to us from them. It was one of the best trips trips we have been on. My oldest granddaughter rides and was so excited to go and she was not disappointed at all!

I cannot say enough about the kindness of the wranglers working with children here. My 3 grandchildren, 10, 8 and 6 all had such a fantastic time and made friends quickly. There were so many activities planned for them, they were never without something to do.

My husband and I went on a ranger tour of the property with Mike and it was awesome. He was so knowledgeable about the area and showed us certain carvings on some trees that were 80 years old. Mike also pointed out bear claw markings from where bears claimed the trees. We went to the top of some mountains and had beautiful views of the area.

Our cabin was beautifully appointed with comfortable beds and a great sitting area with a fire place. We were in Hill, which is a 3 bedroom cabin. The service was excellent. The meals were fantastic and food plentiful. The children ate breakfast and lunch with the family, then dined with their friends at dinner.

My daughter in law and I both took advantage of the Spa while there. I had a massage, she had a massage and a tub soak. If you have a chance do it! It is set over the river and so relaxing.

Overall I have to say this place is 5 star service for me. The GM Dave is around all the time to talk to you and answer any questions. The entire staff was so welcoming and friendly. They got you anything you needed and were always asking you if you needed anything. We all had so much fun, especially the children. I loved seeing the smiles on their faces.

Thank you everyone at C Lazy U Ranch for a wonderful family trip!

The process for reserving includes emailing them where you wait for a response. Then you call to make the reservation. I was okay until that point. I called three times with no answer then I finally reached someone. They were on the phone with me and the call dropped multiple times in the middle of making the reservation. This occurred several times so I indicated I'd call back from a landline with them knowing I was trying to make a reservation. No answer when I called again. So first thing at a reasonable hour I reach the same person who says she gave the reservation away already while I'm busy booking air with 4 people. She was of the mindset -- too bad we booked it already. Definitely not a 5 star experience.

Dear Imlucki, Thank you for your honest feedback regarding your efforts to make a reservation at the ranch. This is certainly not the experience we want to provide. The recent reservation call volume has been significant and the sheer quantity of requests has been almost impossible to plan and prepare for vs. our normal historical demands. In the midst of the COVID crisis people have discovered that the ranch provides a true sanctuary, which is resulting in incredible interest. We are in the planning phases of upgrading our reservations software and related systems in the forthcoming fall to adapt to these demands. In the meantime, our team is doing their very best to respond effectively to each call and I regret that we fell short during your reservation’s process. With sincere apologies, David Craig General Manager

I recently returned from a 6-day, 5-night stay at C Lazy U ranch with my family, that included an 11, 8 and 6 year old. I echo a lot of the positive sentiments below. Three distinct characteristics about the ranch are: 1) this is a place where the staff, in addition to the facility, make it a distinguishing amazing stay; 2) the staff is never complacent with excellent customer service ranging from check-in tours, to engaging guests during activities, to remembering what type of drink you like at lunch; and 3) the food is absolutely unbelievable.

From the management team, to Mackenzie and her team in Kids Camp, to John, Oliver and Christian who guided my family on our horseback riding excursions, to the two Lukes who took us out on snow shoeing and snowmobile rides, and to the wait staff during meals, the team at C Lazy U made it worth every penny spent. There is literally nothing more the staff could have done to make it a more enjoyable experience.

This was our first time at C Lazy U and I think my family benefited from going in the winter first where there is a different set of activities. For those looking to go, all meals were served in the lodge and were family style or buffet with three amazing entrees at the core of dinner. In between the meals were a morning set of activities, an afternoon set of activities and social time at the bar with guests. All families there are looking to share their experience with others and by the end, we were connecting on social networking. Even small things like having a night time event where Hank branded hats and boots for guests brought us together.

The ranch is located near two ski resorts and a national park which provides some great alternatives for families.

Staying at C Lazy U is just an experience like none other, totally worth every penny and a great place to go for a family who may not be the most outdoor savvy, but desires to have that magical outdoor experience.

Escape your day-to-day and reset in the mountains. Cool, clean air combined with a wonderful attentive and knowledgeable staff will recharge you with a true ‘working ranch’ experience. Regardless of your riding ability, there is a mount with your name on it - for trail riding, arena work, or just to experience the “jingle” twice daily with a beverage. Spa? Yes. Fishing? You betcha. Hatchets, BB’s, archery, trap? But of course. Run away to Colorado with fine food, beverages and experiences.

We just went for the week of New Years and was our second time. Lunch and breakfast you can dine together, but for dinner the kids will eat with other kids unless they are teenagers and you make arrangements in advance. Or, if it isn’t a super busy week they probably can, too. Activities can be done together as a family, though. There is a kids program but you can decide how much you want to use it from my understanding. Winter activities are pond hockey or skating, horseback rides, tubing (if enough snow), snowmobiling (if enough snow), trap shooting, snow showing, cross country skiing. It is a lovely place with very welcoming staff.
