My husband and I had a fantastic time at the C Lazy U Ranch. The Ranch has a very intimate feel. The managers speak with all the guests daily. The general manager even serves guests “cowboy coffee” in the morning. The staff had masks on at all times and asked that guests mask up when mounting horses. The Covid precautions were noticeable but not intrusive. They have found a good balance keeping guests and staff safe while maintaining comfortable environment for all. Of course, you come to the ranch to enjoy the outdoor experience. Our wrangler, Abby, was knowledgeable and fun. My husband, an experience fisherman, learned a lot fly fishing with Austin. He also enjoyed the trap shooting experience with Jackson. The food was wonderful and plentiful, since you work up an appetite being outside all day. We dined al fresco for every meal, which was perfect given the beautiful Colorado summer weather. I understand that guest can also chose to dine in their rooms. The accommodations are very comfortable and spacious. My one regret is that we had not discovered the ranch sooner! My kids would have loved the children and teen programs available.

Dear Lisa S, Thank you kindly for your heartfelt review. I appreciate that you felt safe and comfortable with the initiatives we’ve adopted in this COVID crisis. Thank you for mentioning “Cowboy Coffee” - it is my favorite time of day, as we watch the ranch come alive, the fish cresting in the pond, the horses being saddled, birds awakening and providing a cheerful background melody, the dew burning off the morning grass and excited families beginning to congregate for breakfast and getting ready to ride. I don’t think any Starbuck’s can boast about that kind of morning! I hope the C Lazy U becomes a part of your family’s summer tradition. Best wishes and thank you, David Craig General Manager

First of all, I have to open with we absolutely LOVE this place. We came here several years ago as part of a huge family trip to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and fell in love with the people, the horses, and everything about the ranch. We've been back every year since and just got back from our annual trip 2 days ago. There is a reason this place is rated so highly -- It just rocks! From the moment you arrive and check in your stress level dissipates. David Craig, Paul Klees, Scott Klees as well as the entire ranch management team ensure that your week at the C Lazy U is tremendous. Layer in 200 wonderful horses and the horseback team led by Ami Cullen and Tami Burkett with their amazing team of wranglers (especially, Halsey, Cailey, Maggie, Allie!!) and your week would be the best you've had all year long. They cater the riding and the horses to skill level so you can be a true novice or an expert and still have a great time. I've been riding my entire life and still get great steeds that I can learn from and have fun with. This is all fantastic and leads to a tremendous week off. But when you continue to layer in the B Lazy U spa and it's location and services, Chef Cory's tremendous gourmet ranch food and the Ranch's tremendous beverage staff (did I mention a great wine list and Derek and his team mix up some awesome cocktails, too), you have heaven on earth. And, for those that don't ride, this is an Orvis certified fly fishing camp and there is also a pool, hot tubs, great hiking, mountain biking and there may not be a better location to just "chill." Plus, in this covid-19 era, the ranch has figured things out. Limited capacity, face coverings, indications of sanitization (ribbons on pool seats and saddles to indicate recent sanitation). Seriously, I could go on forever, but the best thing I can say is our family is used to some pretty nice travelling and we are certainly very picky. The C Lazy U has figured out how to offer an authentic rustic western experience that has been amped up with truly gourmet food and drink and service that is second to none. I should note that the ranch does have a select number of homesteads on-site where "Members" have built houses and visit for extended periods of time. One of the neat things we have found over the years is that opening ourselves up to meeting the members and guests has provided us with some of our best friendships and we now have an extended Ranch Family Herd that rides together, eats together, parties together, celebrates events together -- even though we all live in separate cities. All due to the C Lazy U... Highest praise and I can't wait to go back (and may just do so within a few weeks)!

We had the pleasure of staying at C Lazy U this month and left feeling relaxed, reconnected with our family, and well-cared for. At the outset, it was clear that the management and staff had put into place numerous COVID precautions, yet there is so much to experience and enjoy outside that we didn't feel constrained; we simply appreciated how much the staff was doing to ensure the comfort of the guests. Although the property itself is huge and magnificent (~9,000 acres I believe), with rolling pastures, wooded hills, beautifully constructed and decorated guest cabins and main buildings, it was the staff that truly made our experience memorable. From the General Manager (who was personally present at most meals throughout our stay) to the stable staff, servers and counselors who made our kids' time unforgettable, each member of the C Lazy U team was thoughtful in anticipating our needs, genuinely friendly and engaging, and down to earth in a way that meshed beautifully with the surroundings. It was apparent that these folks like each other and appreciate where they work, and that seems to carry over to the way they take care of their guests. Unlike the previous reviewer, we did not sense any discord with the members or that we somehow received a lesser experience or different treatment. Indeed, we generally didn't know who was a member and who wasn't. The few members we did meet were very friendly and actually helpful in giving us tips on activities and areas to explore. I would consider them more of an asset to the property than anything else. The cabins are "high-end rustic". The beds (the most important feature of any room in our opinion) were incredibly comfortable with soft linens. We enjoyed reading on the porch and watching the sky, hills and pond in the distance. Finally, each meal and course was constructed with creativity yet anchored in a foundation of mountain life that we appreciated. We were told that the chef is new to the property with an impressive resume and he is clearly an asset that should be retained. Our entire family is looking forward to a return to C Lazy U soon.

This Ranch is a flawed concept. C Lazy U’s first priority is not to be a resort, serving the needs of guests. Rather C Lazy U is real estate development more akin to a country club that has Members that have purchased multi-million dollar homes on the property and receive tax benefits for doing so. There is a huge difference between being a Member at C Lazy U and being a Guest at C Lazy U. Members of the ranch receive a wholly different and better level of service than those who have paid to stay at the ranch in one of the so-so cabins. Guests of the ranch are treated more like unwanted house visitors of the Members. I can’t help to believe that the exorbitant fees paid by Guests help offset the operating costs of the ranch (horses, activities, food, facilities) which the Members can use at their leisure. A large portion of the guests that were at the ranch when we were there voiced similar feelings of being unwanted and generally disappointed with the service and amenities. I hope they speak up as well. While we give the ranch credit for addressing COVID related issues, those rules were often ignored by Member families. While Guests were required to wear masks and gloves while mounting the horses, we witnessed Member families openly ignoring those requirements. Additionally we were instructed that the the fitness facility was limited to 2 people at a time. However on multiple occasions, while in the facility complying with the 2 person rule, I witnessed 3-4 teenage children of the Member families would enter facility and proceed to work out. Again rules don’t apply to them. While I admit they do have a loyal group of repeat visitors, I do not think those visitors have been to similar luxury ranch properties such as the Ranch at Rock Creek, Paws Up, the Lodge at Brush Creek and Alisal. What is also painful is having the owner and senior staff tell you how great their resort is. They clearly have not seen how other truly first class resorts work. The cost of C Lazy U is very comparable and in some cases more than what you pay at other Western luxury dude ranches mentioned earlier. Whether it be service, food, flexibility, C Lazy U is woefully behind other places we have stayed. If planning a trip like this do yourself a favor, go to a real resort that puts guests first and isn’t bothered with the distraction of Members. You will pay the same amount and actually feel prioritized. I would hope C Lazy U management would take this message to heart but I can’t see how they can change because then the Members would have to be on the same level as Guests but Members sign the paychecks so don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.

Dear TravelBudeee34, Thank you for your TripAdvisor review. I’m saddened that the membership component of the ranch left you feeling disappointed about the quality of your experience at the C Lazy U Ranch. I can assure you that ranch management and ownership work collectively to deliver the same high-quality guest experience to both members and guests. In fact, every member family was first a guest of the ranch and simply wanted to make an investment in raising their children in the wholesome environment we provide. For that reason, our members have become wonderful ranch ambassadors who eagerly look forward to welcoming our guests to the ranch each week. I will absolutely take your member related COVID concerns to heart and will issue communication clearly stipulating the safety precautions our employee team has so carefully adopted. Finally, I regret that you did not bring these concerns to our attention while you are on-site. I know our team would have worked diligently to address any concerns related to your personal experience with service, food or flexibility as you mention in your review. Ultimately both the guests and members represent the harmonious marriage of two wonderful entities that have great care for the ranch and appreciate the wholesome experience we provide. Just last night members and guests alike loudly applauded as we sabered a bottle of champagne to recognize a guest family who’s been coming to the C Lazy U Ranch for 50 years. Thank you for your feedback. David Craig General Manager
