Stayed at the Strater while visiting Mesa Verde NP, which is about an hour west of Durango. The Strater has the feel of history - furnishings, wallpaper, etcetera - while offering the modern amenities of an upscale (though not luxury) hotel. Rooms are fairly small, but comfortable. The hotel is on Durango's main shopping street, with shops and restaurants for...

I had visited Durango previously, and always wanted to go back and stay at the Strater. This very well restored/maintained hotel is truly a step back in time and our four day stay was extremely enjoyable. The Strater met or exceeded all of my expectations. The room was very nicely decorated with custom wallpaper, antique furniture and a modern bath....

While we didn't stay in Louis L'Amour's favorite room (#222), we were nonetheless charmed by our stay at the historic Strater Hotel. Unlike so many new hotels that are self-consciously cool and chic, the Strater celebrates a colorful, comfortable past. Our room transported us to the Victorian era with a carved oak bed, tassels on the drapes and a star-studded...

we had an amazing night eating , drinking and singing along to great live western music in the front bar here. Loads of atmosphere, great food, yummy drinks and reasonable prices. A truly memorable night. Wished we'd stayed here as well. A true slice of a great Western town's life. Lots of locals. 🐎🐄🐴🐃🐓Loved it!

We're glad we stayed there, just to say we did because it is a part of the local history. The room & bathroom are quite small & musty smelling. Not really enough room for a couple, luggage & bathroom items. There was not a blow dryer in our room, so bring your own! Great location. Durango is a great little...

This hotel was one of those chosen by the tour operator for a group. The rooms are on the small side and not designed for staying in them for long times. Breakfast was included and was bountiful with a buffet of sausage, potatoes, 2 types of scrambled eggs, pastries, toast, yogurt, fruit, hot cereal and very surprising a soup/stew of...

We stopped one afternoon to have a few beers and chips, it was great live music, attentive barmen, reasonable prices what more do you want! The beer was cheap and the fries were tasty. If you find yourself in Durango and in need of a beer stop here it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Durango is a great place and the Strater in part of its charm. You step right back into the 19th century. The hotel is squeaky clean, run by accommodating people, and reasonably quiet. There are secret compartments in the lobby to challenge young and not so young folks to find them. The restaurant is excellent, usually offering game as well...
