This is definitely not a four star hotel. And shame on anyone who rated it that way. No help with luggage (used COVID as an excuse), check in was ridiculous because computers were down, manager finally let us in our room. Hotel is very tired looking, dark, and has NO dining. We had a patio room, and the patio was the only positive I can say about the room. A/C was loud and thermostat didn’t work properly. We had to have the a/c filter replaced immediately because it was filthy. Mold and mildew in the shower that I pointed out to the manager. Bathroom needed a good scrub, top to bottom. Open bottle of water was left in the room from previous guest. Carpet was horrible - old, dirty and lumpy. Patio door had big gaps on top and bottom. Engineer tried to fix with extra wide weather stripping but gaps were just too big. Three days was more than enough - won’t stay there again. By the way, we then checked into another Westin, in Avon Colorado, and it has been an awesome experience. It was truly a four star property, and they helped with our bags!

My family and I stayed at this hotel recently for three nights. Our room did not get cleaned after the first night, and we figured it was possibly one of the last rooms on the list for the day, so we asked for clean towels and skipped the room cleaning. This happened again the next day and we called the front desk to ask for our room to get cleaned, and they said they are not doing regular housekeeping due to a staff shortage, and that if we wanted our room cleaned that we would have to ask a day in advance, and that they could take us trash bags and toiletries up to our room and that would be it. So we paid Westin prices for hostel service, which is unacceptable, staff shortage or not! Our room was not cleaned during the entire three night stay. Had we been told about this issue when we checked in, we would have taken the appropriate measures to get our room serviced.

We enjoyed our stay at the Westin. We were looking for a hotel close to Coors Field and this was perfect! The front desk was great to answer questions at check in. The rooms are a little dated, but I feel like most downtown rooms are. Overall it was a nice hotel and I would stay here again.

The hotel was nice, clean, quiet, and in a great location. The pool was AMAZING! It was heated, on the 4th floor, and was both inside and out. This was our favorite part of the hotel. The staff was limited but you could tell they were doing their best. They were all so nice and helpful and provided us extra bottled water. I like that the staff doesn't enter your room if you're staying multiple nights. We spent more time at the hotel than we initially planned because Denver's homeless population is huge in this area and a bit aggressive at times. Obviously this is not a reflection on the hotel - just an observation for other travelers. It was really close to the 16th Street Mall and right around the corner from the Corner Bakery, which we loved.

As an experienced traveler, I understand completely how difficult this past year has been for the hotel industry. On my road to Platinum Elite status, I have stayed at many Westins. Pandemic aside, this one is just average. The property is showing signs of its age. The walls, ceilings and floors are looking in need of some love. The hotel was clean in general but not immaculately. The indoor/outdoor pool on the 4th floor was kept very clean. In these difficult times, you notice the little things that are indicative of good management. Bookings are still down and business travel is still nonexistent so the hotel has a skeleton crew. The ones who are working seem to be stretched to the limit. Our coffee station in the room was only stocked with enough coffee and supplies for one person, one day. I wasn’t able to get the front desk on the phone so I walked down there. The front desk was able to find me cups and coffee only. I had to steal some sugar from the coffee shop across the way and ask the housekeeper for creamer. I miss the days when Westin rooms for Elite members were on the top ‘SPG’ floor, equipped with enhanced amenities, robes, slippers and plenty of water and coffee. Back to my statement about understanding how difficult times have been for hotels. I understand up to a point as it has been very difficult for customers too including Marriott’s most valued Elites. A well-managed corporation has to balance getting through the storm and still showing their most valued customers how valued they are so that when the storm passes, they still feel loyal to the brand. With hotel restaurants and lounges still closed, a few conciliatory bonus points don’t really take the place of the amenities. Even Fairfield Inn has maintained grab and go breakfasts for non Elite guests. I would think Marriott could come up with a creative solution for their more upscale brands. I have an opportunity to try out complimentary Gold status with a competing brand as a benefit of American Express. It will be interesting to see how they are handling some of these same issues on a future trip.

Response from Reuben David, Guest Services / Front Office at The Westin Denver Downtown

Thank you for your feedback and your understanding, we are trying to get our F&B outlets open as soon as possible and the ingredients café which is open every day from 7 am to 10 am does have garb and go breakfast. We are not having items such as robes, slippers, and such amenities to reduce contact. We have to replace or disinfect all the touchpoints in the room after every checkout and discarding unused items in the room will create a huge amount of waste. These items are available on request now by calling us or using the Bonvoy app. Once again thank you for your patience and your feedback. We hope to see you again.
