The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver presents a stylish and upscale atmosphere that has been lauded by guests, alongside its prime location favored for its easy access to downtown attractions. While the service receives mixed reviews, oscillating between commendation for attentiveness and criticism for occasional unprofessionalism, many travelers appreciate the hotel's clean and well-kept environment. However, opinions on the rooms are divided, with some guests finding them spacious and others encountering maintenance issues. Despite the quality amenities, the perceived value is a point of contention due to high prices and some underwhelming facilities.

We stay here whenever we come to Denver. The location is marvelous. The staff is outstanding. The restaurant -- Panzano -- is excellent. The lobby is inviting, especially during the daily manager's happy hour: complimentary wine. Most walls are adorned with good art. More important, the rooms are well-decorated and well-furnished. Most important, the bed is super comfy and the bathroom is well-equipped and roomy enough. Maid service is daily; bed linens are changed on request. Overnight parking is (understandably) expensive ($49), but a car is not really needed if you're staying for a few days. Earlier we were in Englewood and needed a car. Solution: We used Lyft to take us to an Avis location that's a five-minute walk from the hotel, then returned it there, walked to the hotel, and used Lyft for the duration of our trip, in all cases to and from great restaurants. (Denver's resto scene has absolutely exploded.)

From my viewpoint, this is Denver's best hotel.

Dear LoafJugThouTree, We are extremely grateful for your fantastic review of the Monaco Denver. While we understand the cost of parking in a Downtown Urban environment is very expensive we try to make the experience of our valet service in line with this cost. I am also glad you had a great time at Wine Hour. The Denver Culinary scene is absolutely continuing to grow and we remain very proud of Panzano and the team here in delivering as well. Warm regards, Don Swedberg General Manager

Visited Denver for the first time during the July 4th holiday weekend. We were in an executive suite 304. The room was ready upon our arrival at 11:30am which was nice. Great location only one block from the 16th Street Mall which features a free bus to Union Station. Highly commend Heather at the front desk who was efficient but friendly and gave GREAT customer service. All of the Kimpton hotels now charge $23 nightly amenity fee but at least at this location they are still offering the wine hour, coffee/tea in the morning and they give you a $10 daily credit at Panzano (which we didn't choose to use). The gym is decently equipped with treadmills, recumbent bike, weights and treadmills. Our room faced out to an office building so we couldn't really open the curtains during the week so the room was dark. All rooms have a refrigerator in them which was nice. All in all a good Kimpton in the West.

5 stars! Courteous staff at all times! Housekeeping service was removed due to COVID-19 which is completely understandable and prefer that way as well for the time being so you have to request items or replenishment. Super neat detail of the attendants to place everything where it belongs - usually hotels would leave them on top of bed or counter table. They also keep in touch with you by text which comes in handy. I had a last minute change and spoke with Jordan who accommodated me with an additional bed and stunning downtown views. Thank you Elise for the super smooth/informative check in.

Dear joselynqq, We truly appreciate your understanding of the restrictions that were in place during your stay at the Monaco Denver. It is also great to hear that the team was able to deliver on making the experience positive for you. Hopefully as we move forward with some of the restrictions loosening you will be able to come back to Denver and enjoy even more of what we have to offer. Warm regards, Don Swedberg General Manager

Very average hotel with several hidden fees that don't exist at other hotels. I booked through a 3rd party. When I arrived I was informed that I paid for room and tax but they required a $23/nt 'amenity fee'. I later found out wifi internet is not included in the mandatory amenity fee. Basic wifi is an additional $13 /nt and high speed wifi was $17-18 /nt if I remember correctly. There's also zero parking/valet only. No idea what that costs as I didn't have a vehicle to park.

I understand there are covid effects in the hotel industry, but charging high prices when amenities and service are missing seems like a ripoff. Service is what really differentiates the Kimpton brand from say a run of the mill Holiday Inn Express. Unfortunately, Kimpton Monaco Denver did not really deliver.

Take the restaurant for example. Closed for breakfast on Monday and Tuesday. Closed for dinner Sunday and Monday. If you are staying Sunday to Tuesday for example, you virtually have no restaurant option at all. OK fine, but why still charge the same amenity fee of $23 when the restaurant credit that comes with it cannot be used as the restaurant is closed for two days?

You pay close to $300/night and you get no housekeeping. No room service. limited bathroom storage, no laundry service. To me that's disingenuous. No recommended books that they advertise on the website. Small touches are what differentiate upscale hotels from generic ones.

The building itself is good looking, location is very central, and the room was clean. But I can get that also from a cheaper hotel. The guy working at the valet was kind. The front desk girls were friendly. I just think overall there is an employee shortage here. There was nothing terrible with the hotel. Just disappointed considering the price.

The rating reflects state of the hotel compared to price charged and brand expectations.

Ask not to be put in a room with a window to the alley if you sleep later than around 6:30 am. Today which is a Monday the trash men came at 6:30 am and they rolled out large garbage bins from the building across the alley. Took about 15 minutes to collect all the garbage and we found it impossible to sleep. Also even in bright sunshine very little natural light will enter your room with the curtains open if you have a room with the window to the alley.

The hotel employees who are manning the valet car services were very friendly and welcoming. They opened the doors for us anytime they could. However the front desk personnel seemed to have the personality of a rock and definitely were not as welcoming or friendly as at other Kimptons.. Especially in the evening hours.

While the location is good this will probably be our first and last stay at this particular property.

Check In:
Valet service was alright but $45 to valet park and not have readily available access to your car? No thank you.
They charge a $23 “amenity fee” in which they give you a $10 gift certificate towards their restaurant. Obviously just a way to scam people out of a little more money.

Room: (King Spa Room 532)
The room was stuffy and the windows were completely enclosed with a solid piece of glass. You couldn’t even crack the window to air it out.
The “king” bed was really a queen bed with a rock hard mattress.

Bathroom:
The soaking tub overflows very easily once in it with no drain in the floor. This has lead to very obvious water damage throughout the bathroom. There was also no bathroom exhaust fan, so anytime you take a shower, the whole bathroom is unbearable. The constant moisture in the bathroom has lead to a huge growth of mold/mildew slime spots ALL over the bathroom ceiling and all the bathroom wallpaper is severely peeling off. The shower floor was also covered in mold/mildew and the toilet room was filthy.

For $320 for ONE night, I expected way better. What a disappointment!

I flew in solo for the weekend and stayed in a Monaco suite here. I had zero complaints!

It’s a dog friendly hotel which I love but I did opt for a hypo-allergic room on its own separate hypoallergenic floor since I’m a little particular about strictly sleeping on stuff only my own dog does! :)

I felt super comfortable and safe here as a solo female traveler.

Everything was clean and I missed housekeeping but knew because of covid I would not have anyone in my room. Not a big deal and I felt comfortable with the measures they took to keep guests healthy.

This is my second stay at a kimpton property and I’ll never hesitate to stay with this group again.

Staff was always very pleasant and most helpful with any questions I had!

My husband and I spent two nights and felt pampered in the luxurious room. The lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas and the complimentary wine (social hour) was a welcome surprise as we checked in. We were in a corner suite with high ceilings and huge windows. The bathroom shower was spa like and the robes and linen certainly made us feel spoiled. The place was clean as a pin and the staff were very attentive, checking to make sure we were comfortable. Natalie and the crew at the front desk were approachable and friendly. We couldn't have asked for more from this downtown location. I would highly recommend you consider the Monaco for your next trip to Denver.
I would also strongly recommend the onsite restaurant. Fabulous menu, amazing food and staff.

Our power went out in the first hour from using a blowdryer and there was hardly any apology. That shouldn’t happen in a large hotel, and although someone came to fix it I expected more (he also had to come into our room after it went out again...). Everything is so cheaply made- paint chipping everywhere, shower door didn’t close, 1 towel hook for 2 people, bathroom decor looking so decrepit, and the hallway felt like a cold pool entry way. So unwelcoming when a hotel room is supposed to feel comforting and cozy. I will never stay at a boutique hotel again- just an excuse to use “trendy” aka cheap furniture and decorations to lure in young people. Pictures were so misleading compared to the “deluxe” room we actually got. I wish I had taken pictures. Will not be staying at a Kimpton again anytime soon! Would rather stay at a Hampton or Hilton, at least they’re always clean, cozy and reliable!

Dear NashMorgan26, I would like to apologize that we were not able to meet let alone exceed your expectations during your stay. It is always our goal to exceed expectations and deliver a memorable experience. In 2018 the hotel underwent a major refresh and the guest rooms had been renovated. We unfortunately are not going to be able to meet everyone's personal tastes in décor but try to make sure everyone is comfortable. The fact that the two buildings that form the Hotel Monaco were built in the early 20th century means that we have many different layouts compared to a cookie cutter new building, which many people do enjoy the experience. I am sorry that this was not something that appealed to you. Again, I apologize that we were not able to exceed your expectations. Warm regards, Don Swedberg General Manager

They had Manager's reception. No bell service. limited valet. Parking lot for your car was open to the public to walk into as the gate was broken. Stay at Kimpton Born. near Union Station. A MUCH better property in my opinion.

Hi - the rooms I occupied on both visits had glass showers. The shower is one of the best parts of this stay (and the bath products). I know that sounds weird, but a good shower at the end of a long, adventurous day can make all the difference.

I have to agree with Scott C. It is a lovely hotel and worth a stay there anyway. That's from an ex smoker!
Answer from SandyMonacoGM
Venessa B; I am sorry if no one has gotten back to you - No the look to the New Monte Carlo Suite is much more open. If you need a room with a door I would recommend the Executive suites, the sofa sleepers are in a separate room with a door in between.
