We stayed here for one night on our way to other places. It was a nice big room, comfortable beds. Had croissants for breakfast and coffee. Little things made it even nicer - had nice tissues and nice toilet paper! Not cheap 1 ply:). Would stay here again

Staying at historic hotels can be real hit and miss. The Windsor Hotel is a total hit! Perfect in every way. The restoration of this historic building has all the modern amenities. And a great location for those traveling the Colorado high country. Beautiful and comfortable room. Great restaurant. Cordial people. A must stay!

They did a wonderful job renovating this hotel. They have retained the history while bringing the building up to modern comforts that we expect these days. This hotel was excellent!! The restaurant was top notch, too - dinner was so good that we returned for brunch the next morning. We highly recommend it.

What a fabulous place to stay! Our room was extremely comfortable and quiet, beautiful and functional. It was very convenient to eat downstairs at the first-class restaurant. We've been spreading the word about what a great time we had staying here.

This hotel is not a restored hotel. It is a new hotel inside an historic structure. Every reason I chose the hotel did not pan out. The super dining room was closed. The lovely in hotel bar was closed and when I found out it was not a restored hotel that was the end of my "love affair". The a/c... More

We were looking for a place to stay between the two National Parks (Great Sand Dunes and Mesa Verde) when we happened upon a suggestion for the Windsor Hotel. We were very pleased with the comfort of the beds and the great air conditioner! Our only regret is that we arrived on a Sunday night when the restaurant is closed.... More

This wonderful historic hotel has been beautifully restored. Rooms are spacious, well-appointed, with many period accents. Charming and friendly staff. Perhaps best of all is the restaurant which had truly superb food -- as good as you would find in NYC or San Francisco. This place is a must-visit, even if it requires a detour -- well worth it.

If you're driving anywhere near Del Norte, do not miss this historic and lovingly restored hotel and its amazing restaurant. The renovation of this 1874 property is perfect: top-notch construction, attention to historic details, and beautiful paint and furnishings, all while maintaining a classic Colorado warmth and friendliness. Guest rooms are all upstairs (there's an elevator) and are as sweet... More

From the check in desk to the housekeeping staff, everybody was very gracious. Room was spacious, ample sitting area, nice desk, beds were luxury comfort. Showers were a treat. We even were given the opportunity to put our bikes in a back room to avoid loading/unloading over night. Coffee and pastry available in the morning.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1874, and one of Colorado's oldest hotels, the Windsor has been the heart of the town of Del Norte for nearly 140 years. Originally known as "The Whitsitt House", this “Grand Dame’s” construction started soon after the town was founded in 1871. In the last quarter of the 1800's, Del Norte was a booming and thriving mining and ranching hub. Once on the short list for the capital of Colorado, Del Norte lost by one vote to Denver as state capital. The Windsor Hotel was the focal point of social and commercial activity in San Luis Valley area and remained a regional gathering spot for over a hundred years. Del Norte, remained a prospering and influential town in south western Colorado until the early 1970's. The Windsor Hotel too, began to reflect the area’s decline. By 1993, the hotel was dilapidated and in a state of ruination. A wrecking ball was literally looming over the decaying and lifeless “Victorian Lady” as she awaited her final fate. With amazing foresight and dedication, a local benefactor and his wife, Doctor Raymond & Mrs. Barbra Culp, stepped in to save the Windsor from demolition, literally at the last minute (the hotel lounge, Bistro Barbara, is named after Mrs. Culp in her honor). Over the past 20 years, several phases of reconstruction, restoration and regeneration have produceded an eloquent lodging and dining establishment. Highlights are a "turn-of-the-century" parlor, elegant dining and event rooms, and a living history interpretive area. ... more   less
