We were hoping to visit the Colorado Springs area for several days and found this gem online. To be honest, it was mainly the price (and the excellent reviews) that attracted us. Although it was an hour away from Colorado Springs, we thought we'd give it a try. Are we ever grateful we did!! We still love the price, but now we have any number of other reasons to also recommend this place! First, is the staff. Joanne, Mike, and others were all exceptionally hospitable and helpful in every way. Second, was how clean the inn is. Third, is the HISTORY. This inn has a fascinating past which the owners have tried to maintain and build on. The place is FULL of interesting antiques and artifacts from the time period when this was a hospital in the early days of the gold camp. Fourth, is the FOOD! Don't let the fact that it's a food truck onsite scare you off. Doc's is not your average food truck! We enjoyed every meal either on the tables on the front lawn, on the patio, on the verandah, in the sunroom, or in our room! Fifth, is the history of the area. The towns of Cripple Creek and Victor are in some ways a little tired, but they are full of interesting history (don't miss the free Heritage Centre), and both towns are trying to revitalize themselves. Cripple Creek's main street has especially been bolstered by the addition of any number of small casinos. Sixth, are the VIEWS!! The drive into Cripple Creek is very pretty but the view leaving (back towards Hwy 24) is absolutely nothing short of breath-taking! Seventh, are the wild donkeys! Part of the charm of this little town are the donkeys that roam freely. They are descendants of the donkeys that used to work the mines one hundred years ago. Volunteers in the town care for the herd, and a town ordinance allows them free reign throughout the area. We were fortunate that they visited the Hospitality House once during our stay!! NOTE: Not all rooms have microwaves/fridges -- but there is a microwave available for all guests to use in the sunroom, and the proprietor will provide you with ice for your room or even store items for you in their fridge if you ask. CONCLUSION: Come enjoy this little gem off the beaten path!…
We stayed in the only room with a private entrance. This was a surprise stay for my husband's birthday. He loved it! He uses a walker and this room was perfect and had plenty of room for him to move around easily. There is no elevator but we enjoyed it non the less. I would highly recommend staying here anytime you are in Cripple Creek. It's location on the edge of town keeps it quiet but the have a shuttle to the casinos (I believe). The History in this old hospital is also amazing. The staff where very helpful and friendly.
We always staying here. Everything was perfect. Really liked Doc's food truck, next time will try them for lunch. Stayed in room 11, small but it was just right. Liked that it was on the first floor. Will be staying here again
An absolutely wonderful hotel with a colorful past, charming decor and comfy rooms. Clean and quiet, the location just on the edge of Cripple Creek has beautiful views, yet is only a stone's throw from shops, dining and casinos downtown. The owners are hands on, and Joanne is a delightful hostess! Hope to return one day..and so will you!
We have stayed here numerous times and find the accommodations great. Rooms are clean and well maintained. It is quiet and relaxing. We have also been here during the holidays and decorations are festive and fit so well with the Victorian feel of this property Staff that greet you always pleasant and helpful. Prices are also a big draw for us...Reasonable.
