We had a wonderful time staying at The Ruby. We had a room with a loft, which was perfect for our needs. It’s was spacious yet cozy, and well appointed. The breakfast was phenomenal! And visiting with the other guests, at a safe distance, was so much fun! Lindsey is an amazing chef, and is very accommodating. Every request was fulfilled. Can’t wait to visit again!

My husband and I loved our stay at The Ruby. Lindsay prepared delightful breakfasts for us, and an extra bonus was getting to know the other guests. The Ruby attracts lovely, warm people! Crested Butte never disappoints, with its breathtaking vistas. And now we have a lovely place to stay on our next visit! We will be back!

In Crested Butte the accommodations are not luxurious. This is a western town and they like it that way. The rooms at the Ruby are small and the property is average. The chef was also the room cleaner during our stay which seemed like too much work for 1 person. Breakfast was prepared from scratch and the chef is quite nice. It's an OK B&B - just not a luxury property.

Dear CostaRicaGregg, Thank you, I suppose, for taking the time out of your day to alert potential travelers of the OK-ness of our cozy bed and breakfast. (279 Reviews. You are certainly a prolific writer of opinions on the Trip Advisor.) Still, I must humbly assert that it is a real shame that our more appreciative, satisfied guests have not been as vocal on Trip Advisor as of late, as the vast majority of them would certainly disagree with your estimation of our little Ruby. Firstly, I would like to address your strange criticism of our chef/innkeeper performing housekeeping on the one day you stayed with us. Imagine being called out online for being a hard worker. Personally, we know we are lucky to have Lindsey as our chef, and that we are even luckier that she has agreed to come and live on site as our innkeeper this season. Yes, innkeeping can sometimes include both culinary AND housekeeping duties. How unheard of, right?! Rest assured she is not the only person who serves in this role at The Ruby. It feels odd to have to type this but here goes... We have a cleaning company with many employees that works with us regularly, as well as other seasonal staff members who have already (unfortunately) left us after the busy summer season. As far as not being a "luxury" property... I'm not sure where to begin. My husband and I purchased The Ruby in May of 2019. We have kept the name, the logo, the room rates, the website and many of the little things The Ruby's former owners worked so hard on for the previous 14 years. We came into this business hoping to continue to provide guests with The Ruby experience they have loved so much over the years, and to possibly improve on it. We have learned a lot (and continue to learn) as the months progress exactly how to do this. There is always room for improvement in any venture. We came into this knowing we would be changing the appearance of this well-loved b&b. We hired landscape architects in 2019 to design plans for the exterior (that have yet to be approved by the town). More recently, we have also hired an interior designer to help us bring the Ruby up to a more current standard of luxury. It is not a fast moving project as much as a long term labor of love, but we feel we have made many small improvements over the last year and a half, and repeat guests (of which we have many), have noted and complimented these changes. In continuation of these upgrades, we will be closing October 14 to complete a first set of interior renovations, including new flooring and a lengthy list of other interior upgrades, as time allows, before we reopen for winter season December 15. Yes, the rooms are smaller than many hotels, though perhaps not in the town of Crested Butte. (Anyway, we prefer "cozy".) Despite their size, these rooms still allow for small "luxuries" not included in many other similar starred (2 1/2) places of lodging. All rooms have private bathrooms. All rooms have Nespresso machines and come stocked with specifically curated snacks and drinks, and even supplements for the altitude. We have 3 types of coffee offered daily (in room Nespresso, communal drip pot, and specialty coffees like lattes and cappuccinos at breakfast) as well as a wide selection of complimentary teas. All rooms have exceptionally nice mattresses, sheets, pillows, slippers & robes, as well as an abundance of towels, for guest use. We also offer complimentary personal items in every room including makeup remover wipes and loofahs to name a couple. I personally offer concierge service for guests on request for recommendations and reservations at restaurants and spas, etc. We have a ski locker on the mountain for guest use. A boot drier in the ski storage room. Bikes and sleds for guest use. A brand new hot tub with towels and complimentary sandals if you forgot your own. And a chef made, personalized breakfast every morning at the time of your choosing. We don't overlook details, and we care about the comfort of each and every guest. There are germ killing air purifiers in every room for your safety and that of our staff. These may be small things to you but they are little "luxuries" to us. And, as I have stated in a previous review, my family, Lindsey, and I genuinely care about your experience and satisfaction with your stay. With as much love and hard work as we put into The Ruby on a daily basis, it feels like a punch in the gut to receive anything less than a 5 star review. If you would like to discuss your stay further, please give us a call and we will find a way to earn those 5 stars from you. The Ruby phone rings directly to me, every day of the week.

Stayed for one night 9/21-22 2020. Felt bed and breakfast was way over priced !!!! for what we received. Accommodations were ok but certainly not luxury, feel misled from website. Owner felt she had had no time off and was complaining about circumstances, and that she was not taking any bookings the next two nights so she could have time off. When someone is paying over $700 fo two rooms for one night, not appropriate. I was deeply disappointed with the room. Tv was not working when we arrived and felt out for calling and getting it to work. Overall 2 star, stay somewhere else .

The room was the size of a postage stamp. Bathroom like a phone booth. Take a close look. It's the room featured in their web ad. No space for anything. No shoes allowed in this hotel so you get to walk around in your socks. Bulbs in the bathroom were out upon arrival. Found a petrified fortune cookie when plugging in a charger under the bed. The fortune should have read "vacuum me". If you're looking for cool on a 90 degree day, there is no air conditioning. $333.40 is outrageous for this itsy-bitsy room. Yet perhaps we could have lived with it if the lady in charge hadn't an attitude. Walked up the wrong stairway looking for coffee only to be reprimanded for not using the "guest" stairway. How would we know? And of course there was no coffee. "Only at breakfast!" By the way, if you think you're close to town, you're not. 1/2+ mile walk to downtown. One good thing - they had an umbrella you could use if it rained.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Friesen, Wow, that's quite the review. My apologies if you feel you were mislead into booking anything other than a room in a cozy Bed & Breakfast. We do have many photos and descriptions online that advertise, as you noted, exactly what we are offering. However, I would like to point out that there are some inaccuracies in your review. Firstly, we do allow clean indoor shoes inside the house. We have complimentary slippers and sandals for guests who do not bring their own. We have carpeting throughout the building and with all the outdoor activities to be enjoyed in Crested Butte we try to keep the place as clean as we are able to. However, we are also only human, like you, so we do sometimes overlook things such as a cookie under the bed or a newly burnt out light bulb (that was immediately changed out as I understand). We also occasionally have bad days, too. As far as the AC, our summer lows are in the 40s and it's not a typical thing to find AC at any place in town. We have it on a list of things to consider for the future, but the reality is that it is rarely needed. We do have ceiling fans and window fans in every room. I understand one was installed for you when requested. As far as the staircase, there is a large sign posted on the door asking guests to please use the staircase in the living rooms. For reasons of sanitation, including Covid, we ask guests to refrain from entering the kitchen. Perhaps we need a bigger sign. I do apologize if you felt you were reprimanded. It can be startling to be working alone in the kitchen early morning when someone pops in on you. Ok, and the no coffee thing. This is just simply untrue. When Covid happened we eliminated the communal coffee pot and invested in Nespresso machines for every room. These are a much nicer and higher end option for coffee, available at your convenience. And I understand that you also used yours and were given replacement pods and clean mugs, by the "lady in charge." We do offer specialty coffees with breakfast but we also try to honor every request a guest may have within reason, including as many coffees as they'd like to have. Geographically, we are located in the town of Crested Butte. If you check the map on Trip Advisor, or Google, you will see that we are more like .3 miles away from just about everything, not more than .5 miles plus as you claim. We also have bikes for guests to take out as they please if they prefer not to walk or drive. And finally, the cost of the room. About $35 of that rate is taxes that do not go to us. Your room had a king bed which is a bit pricier than one with a queen bed. But included in this rate is: parking; WIFI; Hulu TV; high end linens, matresses and pillows; a hot tub; a room stocked with complimentary goodies and drinks; toiletries; baked goods at check in AND a made to order gourmet breakfast ready at the time of your choosing. And let's not forget the high end, in room coffee and 24 hour tea station. Also included in that rate are very responsive owners who genuinely care if their guests are unsatisfied. My husband reached out to you online last night. If you would like to discuss your stay please feel free to return his message request or give us a call. I answer our business line every day of the week. Sincerely, Genevieve Ryan-Pedram
