The Nordic Inn is the longest operating lodge in the county. Only 500 yards from the lifts at the base of Mt Crested Butte, lies a slice of historic nostalgia from the early days of skiing in Colorado. Classic past meets present day with luxury accommodations and services of a contemporary boutique bed & breakfast hotel. The Nordic Team is known for hospitality, humour, and personal connection with guests. The Inn is beautifully renovated in keeping with the charm of the original hotel. Each morning begins in the warmth of the breakfast room with a wholesome continental breakfast to see you through the day’s adventure. Play hard, then head back to a roaring fire in the hotel's intimate lounge, where you can relax, enjoy music and a glass of fine wine, whilst taking in the amazing views of Mt Crested Butte. Rooms range from Signature King and Double Queen to our luxury Nordic Chalet. We allow dogs in certain rooms for $30, per pet, per night. We would love to host you!

Property's Favorite Review
Our 2nd time staying at Nordic Inn, since we had such a nice experience the first time in 2019. We stayed this time in the main 2-story motel/hotel building (we previously stayed in the loft king suite, at but detached from the main building), and I requested a room on the upper level to control for any possible noise coming from above our room. We had quiet neighbors and our room was very quiet. We stayed a whole week and were quite comfortable in the signature king room. Really comfortable bed - not too firm, not too soft; room and bathroom were very clean. The room had a small table and 2 chairs which were perfect to eat dinner leftovers 2 nights.
There is a common refrigerator and microwave in the ski/boot storage area on the upper level. Several people also used the refrigerator for restaurant leftovers and everyone labeled their bag or container. We planned ahead and packed paper plates and flatware (although I think you could just go downstairs and use the plates and flatware from the breakfast area and return them to the dirty dish bin).
Breakfast in the morning had a decent variety of food so that even staying a week we were satisfied. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, some pre-packaged breakfast burritos that could be heated, bread, bagels, croissants, cereals, peanut butter, jelly and cream cheese for spreads; dried craisins, sliced canned peaches (that were surprisingly good!), juices and milk. And wonderful, smooth, hot coffee made daily with real half and half available.
The wine and alcohol dispensing machines (card keys charge back to your room) make it easy to enjoy the hot tub with a drink after skiing. There is also canned beer available for purchase, but the desk staff need to be there to retrieve it for guests. Be sure to order a couple extra if you want one in the early afternoon before the desk staff arrives around 3 pm.
The common area on the first floor has a very cozy lodge feel, with the stone wood-burning fireplace and plenty of seating on overstuffed leather furniture. Great place to go read a book or play a game in the evening.
As their webpage states this is the "longest operating lodge in Gunnison county and is the first and only remaining hotel in Mt. Crested Butte from the first year the ski area opened in 1963." They have updated all the rooms and furnishings a few times since then, but there can still be some issues. The shower curtain rod in our bathroom was loose in the bracket, but my husband was able to tighten it, and the little coffee maker leaked water so wasn't usable (better brewed coffee served at breakfast anyway). We reported both to the desk staff so they could address the issues.
Easy walk (5 minutes, even walking slowly in ski boots) on the sidewalk to the main lift area, and to the bus stop for the free bus into town.
Crested Butte Sports is an independent ski and bike shop right across the parking lot from the Inn. We were able to drop off our skis late in the afternoon for waxing and pick them up next morning to ski.

Karen - We absolutely love your review! You tell it exactly like it is, including the little imperfections. Your curiosity and interest in historic places shines through. Perhaps you should try our Summit rooms next time you visit? They’re a short ride by Mountain Shuttle and have a totally different look and feel to our Grand Old Lady… although you will still join us for breakfast in the mornings and have the same access to our cozy lounge as always. I would be interested to hear your comments after your stay. Need I mention you don’t have to wait for the next ski season to visit Crested Butte? Summer and fall are the most wondrous seasons to be in these mountains. Every trail and every road is open for exploration - wildflowers abound, snowmelt streams race through the countryside and the vast forests of Aspen will take your breath away, as they change colour almost before your eyes. A reviewers dream! Thank you so much again

This is the third time I have stayed at the Nordic Inn (we come about once a year) and it is always a pleasure. Linda is amazing - extremely kind, helpful and willing to support in any way that is needed. There is another person who is a bit more serious/blunt and to the point who works there but will answer questions if needed. The rooms are always spotless, coffee and fridge in room, hair dyer, plenty of towels, etc. They also have a room for guests where you can get ice, extra coffee or toilet paper, warm your boots and gloves, etc - which is an amazing convenience when you need anything. The inside is very cozy with fireplace, wine and drinks, coffee, breakfast in the am (you do have to wear a mask inside now so it may not be the cozy fireplace sipping on wine as normal but that is state requirement currently so we did not take advantage of this on our current stay). I highly recommend staying here. The location is fantastic - walk to skinning, base of mountain or take a shuttle bus into town on Main Street.

Linda, the General Manager, is warm and kind and goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable and fun. Robert kept us well fed at breakfast and was great to chat with in the mornings. If you are there for skiing, the location is perfection. Easy walk to base of Mt. Crested Butte and all the shops. The sitting room with the fire is lovely and cozy and a great place to read or have a glass of wine. We felt they were safe in how they handled COVID - everyone was masked, physically spaced, etc. - and they still provided breakfast and other amenities in a safe way. Breakfast is served rather than you serving yourself. Housekeeping is upon request but fresh towels, shampoo, conditioner, etc. are all available in the upstairs hall by the boot warmer. Additionally, we were traveling with kids and Linda told us we were welcome to sled the hill behind the Inn which was a perfect sledding spot! Very pleased with our stay and recommend to others.

We stayed here three years ago when Jill and Mark were on premise and had personal daily input. Loved it so much, we came back for a romantic getaway
Linda greeted us and was very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were the same as before and the beds were comfortable and large.
When we came down for breakfast, I thought i was at a holiday inn
e had to stand in line and picked from a cold menu which included canned peaches, vanilla yogurt, small bags of oatmeal, or pre cooked boiled eggs
the server obviously did not like what she was doing because she treated us like problems, not guests.
We checked, other B&b’s in the area were serving fully prepared meals to order i guess Nordic inn lost that personal touch when the owners moved away
half the joy of a b&b is the breakfast. i guess we only got half of what we ere expecting
hopefully other people will also complain and they will go back to what really worked for them in the past!

Hi There, We are very sad to hear that you did not have the same great experience as your 1st time here at the Inn, but we appreciate your feedback so we can try and make it better. With regards to the breakfast I can assure you it is the exact same cold continental breakfast that was served when Mark and Gill was here. I can assure this as I started working here right after they took over and the breakfast has not changed in the last 3 years. We do apologize for having to wait in a line for breakfast, unfortunately it does happen some times when we are fully booked, but with regards to the Covid situation we are just trying to keep everyone safe and that is the reason why guests could not serve themselves Also want to apologize for not feeling the love from our breakfast staff, will definitely address that! But one thing I have noticed is that with wearing masks all the time facial expressions are not always visible and unless you make it clear through speech a smile could get lost. We sincerely hope that we would have the opportunity to host you again some time in the future. Kind Regards, Linda

Very nice accommodations. Clean, nice decor and pleasant hostess. Breakfast included a variety of pastries, boiled eggs and fresh fruit. We are able to park right by our door.
The room would be great for those needing extra space in the shower ( handicapped etc.). It was huge. I do wish the sink had some vanity space for when toiletries are being used. Room did not have an AC, but did have a fan. There was a fan in the window, but that could only be used if the blinds were up.

Hi Sandy, Thank you so much for taking the time to review the Inn, we really appreciate it so much. All your kind words and comments make us feel great but most of all it just makes us so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. Not all of our rooms have that handicapped bathroom so if that was not something you wanted you can absolutely request to not have it next time you stay with us. Few mountain properties in Crested Butte have air conditioning because the nights are cool and there is a very brief season when the days get warm enough to need one but I hope that it was not too much of an inconvenience to you as we would love to host you again sometime int he future. Kind Regards, Linda

Nordic Inn is a great bargain for being walking distance to the lift. The staff are fantastic - incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The main lounge area has a great vibe to it - including some high-tech (and affordable) wine and whiskey dispensers. We will definitely be staying at the Nordic Inn again.

We traveled with our lab in the summer. They gave us a first floor room on the north/back side of the hotel which made it easy to get in and out with a potty area at edge of parking lot. Rooms were spacious enough to bring in our crate and still be able to easily move around. Sometimes he preferred lying under the sink counter because it was den-ish. Bring eye mask and earplugs if sensitive to light/sound. This is not a new, fancy place, but does have a nice vibe and well-located for skiing. Overall, we would stay again if we had to stay in a hotel-like place. Other thoughts:
PROS
- easy walking distance to ski lifts (we were there in summer but could see how advantageous this location would be during ski season - a flat, 5-minute walk to base)
-comfortable bed
-nice lobby with LOTS of little perks like a wine and beer vending machine, free cookies, games, tourist info, a six string guitar "play me" with a pick and extra strings, comfy seating. Pictures are accurate.
-lots of options at self-serve mini dining room including breakfast burritos and sammies you could heat in micro, some breads fresh while others packaged
-fresh flowers and real silverware (not plastic) at every table... nice touch
- good pre-arrival communication
CONS
-fans in window meant no way to completely block light or sound. We had to get creative to block what light we could and re-direct fan breeze so it wasn't blowing directly on us at night.
-bright light under TV
-checked in during normal hours but no greeter. Not a huge deal - our key (a real key!) and instructions in clearly marked envelope on counter, but a little surprising and our instructions said one room number but key was another. Would have been nice to have a person to ask.
Tip:
Rooms on the east end are farthest from road.

My family and friends spent a long weekend in Crested Butte at the Nordic Inn Chalet. This place was very charming and well maintained. Hardwoods on the bottom floor, and carpet upstairs, it was perfect for our little ski group. We really enjoyed the gas fireplaces on both floors, the grill with a gas line attachment, and the convenient kitchen for preparing meals and snacks. The private drive was a nice touch, and we were able to keep our skis on the porch. After day two of skiing, the sauna on the second floor was a must!
Still we did venture to the main building for continental breakfast (including a yummy yogurt) and for visiting with the friendly and engaging staff. The main building faces the day skier parking lot and is a medium walk from the lifts. The views from this location are out of this world.
If you want quick access to the mountain and a wonderful lodging experience, you can't beat the Nordic Inn.

This is a bit of an odd review as I have not stayed at the Nordic Inn yet as I was unable to travel to Crested Butte (let alone ski) due to a foot & ankle injury that required surgery. Being that I was a bit out of it I forgot to call and let the Nordic Inn know I wouldn't be there but even though I had recently changed my phone number Linda from the Nordic Inn hunted me down via email to make sure I was ok as I didn't show up.
Although I fully understood that the Nordic Inn is a smaller place and during ski season my stay was not refundable as a no show and/or last minute cancellation Linda offered to not bill me and seemed quite concerned if I was ok. A key point here is that I did NOT ask for this but she offered it out of genuine concern for my health. I was quite surprised and impressed with this and then Linda added that although I wasn't able to be there they wished me well and hoped to see me in the future once healed up. Then she added that I was now in their system and would be eligible for a 10% discount for any future visits as a repeat customer even though I was unable to make it there. Simply incredibly friendly and wonderful service!
i cannot thank Linda and the Nordic Inn enough for their unbelievable customer service and for caring more about my health and how I was doing than they did about sticking to their policy and treating me solely as just another customer passing thru during ski season. This level of service was well above the norm and I have decided I will not be staying else when visiting Crested Butte whether that be for Skiing, hiking or just showing off our beautiful state to family and friends when they're visiting.

You’re very kind Mr Hawkins - thank you so much. Of course, we’ve known that Linda is a very special person for a long while now, and we all love and treasure her. We join her in wishing you a speedy recovery from your surgery. It’s only fair to advise you that she’s even more engaging in person than she is on the phone, so please don’t wait too long before coming for a visit.

Staying at The Nordic Inn for two nights was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone traveling to Crested Butte.
We were met with a huge smile and welcome and situated in our room in minutes, with all types of local information and recommendations. Our room was immaculate and comfortable, and the breakfasts were fresh and plentiful. The stay is walking distance to the ski lifts and to the restaurants, pubs and shops in Mount Crested Butte. We loved our visit and can’t wait to return! Highly recommended.

Arthury367 - you’re our ideal guest! You clearly appreciate the olde world charm of the Inn, the quaint mountain village of Crested Butte, The amazing hikes and trails, the friendly locals and of course the energy and enthusiasm of the Nordic team. I don’t think it gets better than this... until winter comes around of course :-) which is when we hope to see you again. Safe travels till then
