I'm sure the hotel amenities are fine, that's why I booked my reservations here (based on reviews). This is about the check-in/billing process. I booked a room a few weeks before my travel date of Oct. 1 using my PayPal Mastercard. There was no problem using this card to make this reservation. This Mastercard is CREDIT CARD, not a DEBIT CARD, through Synchrony Bank and I receive a monthly statement and make payments like any other card. I booked my reservations directly through this hotel's website, again, using this credit card. On the website is this: "All major credit cards are accepted at check-in. Some (but not all) types of Debit cards are accepted. If you plan on using a debit card, please contact the Hotel for details." Nowhere is it written that PayPal credit cards are not accepted. I was traveling alone and it was nearly dark and I had a raging headache when when I arrived. I handed the gentleman at the reservation desk my PayPal credit card and then was told "I'm sorry, we don't accept PayPal cards". I asked why not and he said that they are debit cards and there have been problems with them, or some such vagueness. I told him it is NOT a debit card, but he insisted that it was. (I admit, my bad for not carrying a second card, but that is really beside the point). I was simply stunned that a credit card I use ALL THE TIME and which I used to make the reservation was for some bizarre reason, not going to be accepted. I asked him to show me on their website where it indicates that PayPal credit cards were not accepted. He would not do that. I asked to call my husband at home and he could give him different credit card info over the phone. He would not do that either, saying the hotel had to have the physical card to see. At this point I was so tired, so headachey and so outraged I resorted to pleading with him. Nope, didn't care. Didn't bother to summon a manager and try to make an exception in this case. Nope. It was far, far, more important to this cold and uncaring guest receptionist to uphold some questionable "policy" and force a woman traveling alone to go back out the door (and by the way honey, don't let the door hit you in the rear end on your way out), at night, in a strange place, to try and find another hotel, with a raging headache. Zero concern that I had used this same card to BOOK THE RESERVATION IN THE FIRST PLACE, and used it to book a flight on United and to book a rental car with Budget--didn't matter! "You're going to have to leave ma'am" was all he could say". I honestly felt like I was some kind of criminal for daring use my PayPal credit card, which I use all the time without any problem with any vendor, until my encounter with Academy Hotel. I called the hotel when I got back to complain about this issue. I asked to speak with a manager, but the receptionist would not do so, so I had to explain the issue to him. Same thing--PayPal is a debit card not a credit card. No explanation given for why there is no statement on their website about not accepting this particular card, nor any explanation as to why it would be accepted to make a reservation, but not when actually checking in. I really believe this was the same desk receptionist I dealt with when I was there--he refused to get a manager and ended up hanging up on me. I called back, and a woman answered. She did get a manager. I explained the whole issue to him all over again. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why there is an insistence that MY credit card it NOT a credit card, but a debit card, even after explaining to him that this card is managed by Synchrony Bank and I receive statements like any other card (he tried to tell me that my card does not have a bank behind it, like other credit cards--WRONG). I got nowhere. Academy Hotel, sometimes it's really okay to summon a manager and make an exception and let a woman traveling alone complete her reservations with a good faith policy instead of kicking her out the door, in the dark, in a place that is strange to her, and when truly suffering from a bad headache. This was inexcusable. Shame on you and your very, very rude desk receptionist who seemed to think I was the one with a problem. I will never, ever book a room there again.

We were staying in the Springs for one night and the price here is unbeatable. After looking at the reviews and the offerings we booked. The on site Bar & Grill was over priced and the food was really not good. The burger we ordered was not even edible and the salad was slimy. It seemed like nothing was 'made to order' rather frozen and heated up. My kids wanted to play the Wii that was advertised after dinner. Unfortunately, the games were so scratched that nothing played. So we decided to visit the game room...the ping pong table and foosball table were dirty and broken. Strike two...so we decided to just go watch tv in the room for a bit. Well the satellite was not working, even after the maintenance man came up and replaced the cable. So strike three. I will say that the beds were comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was very nice, lots of options and was set up nicely. When I checked out, I told the woman at the desk my concerns and she seemed less than interested. I will say that most of the employees I interacted with were very nice and professional.

Stayed at this hotel with friends attending a college reunion. The lobby area, restaurant and staff were all excellent. Family friendly hotel. Made to order omelettes were part of a very good breakfast included with the room. I would definitely recommend this to a friend and stay there again myself.

We've stayed here a couple times now and really enjoy the facility. The biggest thing for us is that it's very family friendly. We enjoy the pool, lounge area by the fireplace and the option to have conjoining rooms. Having the restaurant on site is great at the end of a long day and the food is pretty ok. The breakfast is so good and one of the main reasons we come back here. Our only complaint is that the bath tubs are pretty slick and a bit of a fall risk if you have balance issues, a grip mat would be appreciated. The beds are comfy and the rooms are very quiet with true black out curtains making for a great night sleep. We will absolutely continue to come back here and our happy to recommend The Academy Hotel to anyone.

The rooms were very clean. The beds were very soft. The breakfast was delicious with a wonderful omelet station. You could tell it was a bit aged but they have tried making improvements to update. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly. We were given vouchers for booking direct which was appreciated. You can’t beat the location for easy access to I-25 and the Academy.
