New management in 2016. Six minutes from the center of Colorado Springs, this twelve story hotel and condominium was built in 1969 with mid century modern design. There is a residential feel here. We have a cafe, gym, meeting rooms, tennis, heated pool and renovated room in 2015.
We just needed a place to crash for the night and this place didn't even meet that need. Stuffy: No AC, no airflow. The room was hot and stuffy (and smelled of cigarettes)
Shabby: Old scratchy sheets, thin scratchy towels, and the chair next to the little table was actually broken in the center from dry-rotted old wood. Oh, and the 'balcony' includes a giant window where the blinds don't close all the way. So don't get undressed in the room or anything.
Noisy: Did not hear other residents, did hear constant revving road noise
Terrible Parking: Satellite is actually an enormous condo building with a packed parking lot (and the pull-through loop is constatnly closed under construction) so you'll wind up parking really far away.
Deceptive: The lobby is beautiful and well decorated but the hallways and rooms areplain, shabby, and haven't been updated since... the 70s? And no breakfast on weekends. They give you a voucher for a nearby restaurant, but not for much and inconvenient.
There is a balcony, fridge, microwave, and working TV but lacking the ability to sleep or shower comfortably, this room is a total bust. Would like money back.
The Satellite is an unique property given its mid-century, intergalactic architectural style as well as its condo-hotel status. The location is only about 12 minutes from the main airport, 20 minutes by car and 45 mins by bus (line #27 stops right on Airport Road) to the Downtown. Along with decent room value, the warm and welcoming staff ensure a very satisfying, personal stay. Special thanks to Robert who is the evening, Front Desk "anchor" and is a wealth of Satellite and Springs lore, respectively. Only service glitch was my room was not serviced my last day but my usual Housekeeper Raquel was very good at accommodating my special requests during my four night stay. There is no longer an on-site restaurant but breakfast is conveniently available at the excellent MareBear, located in the very worn strip mall located in front of the Satellite's main driveway.
It has a balcony which was the best part of the stay. Is slightly dirty and has an unpleasant odor. Parking is ample but the first several rows are handicap parking. The food is a joke. Not friendly service. Not toiletries in the bathroom. Towels old and rough.
Infuriating!!! I called ahead and made a reservation - showed up, presented my card and they said it wasn't accepting payment. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with my bank verifying the card was working and was told that no transactions made by the hotel was even going thru.... I go to the desk clerk and tell her that the bank is not showing the hotels transaction going through at all!! The clerk is entering the card in by hand because the hotel doesn't have a card scanner or chip reader?!?!?!? Really? The clerk is no help at all, so I ask for the hotel manager - I wait about 10 minutes and then am told by the clerk that the manager has said there is nothing she can do for me. The hotel manager won't even come to the front desk to talk to me... I ask again just to confirm - ''Your manager won't come talk to me?" Answer:. NO! I left and called the hotels main number to see if I could get someone else to talk to and it went to the front desk back to the same clerk that was no help. So I ask again if I could speak with the hotel manager - she says the manager isn't on duty and is unreachable. End of conversation. I'm about 150 miles away from home and no place to stay... reservation NOT ACCEPTED! Avoid this place and go somewhere nice instead. You're hit with a bad smell as soon as you walk in.
Not the normal place we would stay 13 storey building but convenient for us, you get a free breakfast offsite, but very limited , hotel is clean comfortable, balcony, coffee maker, a must for us, bed comfortable, free WiFi is good enough, used 2 devices no speed issues
