The Elk River Guest Ranch is a cabin lodging vacation destination located near Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and within the Routt National Forest. We offer lodging in our rustic cabins on-site. We have a guest capacity of 19-25 people. We offer special events such as weddings, family reunions, business gatherings, yoga/health retreats, nearby outdoor adventure activities and kayak and paddleboard rentals on site. Come to adventure and relax in a solitude, stunningly beautiful piece of Northwestern Colorado. We have outdoor fire pits, hammocks by the riverside, trails leaving from the property for hiking, biking & fishing in the summer. In the winter we have xc-skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling trails practically out the back door. Enjoy the lakes, rivers, mountains, bird watching, clear night skies and many more...enjoy all the outdoor activities winter and summer. Create your own vacation, make it whatever you'd like... You can do as much or as little as you please, but be sure and do one thing... enjoy nature, adventure in the outdoors and relax.
We added two nights at the Elk River Guest Ranch during our family summer trip (three couples) to Steamboat Springs. We wish we had stayed longer! The setting is simply beautiful; it seems remote, but the Clark County store, Steamboat and Pearl Lakes, and horseback riding are all easily accessed from the ranch. The river directly across from the cabins provided a constantly soothing sound of rushing water from any of the outside chilling spots.
Jenny is amazingly helpful and welcoming, and we felt so comfortable in the historic Pearl Hartt cabin. The kitchen is amazing, and we were able to cook our typically foodie meals with no issues. We can't wait to return!

Perfect location for birthday vacation. Jenny was very welcoming and incredibly helpful. Setting was quite peaceful. The children and dogs really enjoyed having the river trail so close by. Will absolutely be returning.

This was a four day respite on our month long road trip through the Mid-West. I love Steamboat Springs but it is nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown. Elk River Resort is the perfect spot to get away along the Elk River Valley and enjoy some peace and quiet with the rustling river and surrounding wooded mountains. The cabins are rustic but very clean and privately spaced on the grounds. Jenny the resort host couldn’t have been more gracious and accommodating. While 17 miles from town, the drive is easy and picturesque for day trips and evening meals in town if so desired.

Location is so quiet and peaceful. Wonderful dark skies at night away from light pollution. We were in the Aspen cabin. When we arrived there was no one around and it was not obvious which cabin was the Aspen. My phone call was not returned but we figured it out ourselves by the process of elimination. Cabin is quite small as is shower. No shaving your legs here! No TV in cabin but there is one in the common “saloon” although we were unable to locate a remote for it. Wifi connection is not the best but pretty good considering how remote this place is. Meager kitchen supplies. No screen on living room window or door so can get quite stuffy with no fan or fresh air. Bedroom however does have screen and windows that open. Not sure I’d go there again.

Had a wonderful Labor Day weekend at the guest ranch. We stayed in the Riverside Cabin and accommodations exceeded expectations. Very comfortable for 4 adults with 2 dogs. Beautiful location next to river. Lots of wildlife nearby. We hiked Hanh’s Peak, canoed Lake Steamboat, trail run over Rabbit Ears pass, rode horses at Hahn’s Roadhouse, very active weekend with many amenities nearby. Will definitely visit again!

We hosted a family reunion here for 14 people (10 adults, 4 kids, 2 dogs) and had a wonderful time. The facilities were awesome and the location was even better. The owners were very accommodating and friendly, making our stay so special. The cabins were clean and well-equipped. Amazing options for hiking, biking, fishing, and paddle boarding close by. We hope to come back someday soon!

What an experience! We had an out-of-state high school reunion at the Elk River Guest Ranch and it was wonderful. The cabins are clean, comfortable, well-appointed and quiet. The scenery is beautiful. There are plenty of hikes right from the property....and many more a short distance away. Horseback riding, fishing, trail riding are all close by. Most importantly, Debbie, Berry, Marty and Jenny are the great hosts. I highly recommend the Elk River Guest Ranch. I plan to return for future stays!

This was an outstanding experience. The cabin was clean, with a WONDERFUL view of the horses and the mountain behind the Ranch. The service was exceptional and the food was EXCELLENT! Elk River Guest Ranch is the perfect balance of rustic and comfort. The cabins are cute and comfortable. Everything was clean, clean clean! Beautiful setting - you can hear the river from your front porch and a great view of mountains on either side. It's remote but with a great restaurant and general store a short drive away. This is the perfect place to get away and enjoy clean air and peace & quiet!

Our group of 10 hikers from "back east" absolutely loved Elk River Guest Ranch. The owners and caretakers were really super cool, the immaculate cabins rustic appearing with modern conveniences, and the secluded setting/scenery just blew us away.

Hi, thanks for asking. We currently do not offer horseback riding at the ranch. We are offering nightly cabin rentals and currently in the process of updating the Elk Rive Guest Ranch TripAdvisor.
