Detailed Reviews
We visited March 17, 2022. Vista Verde exceeded all of our expectations. It was fantastic to be greeted at the airport by Steph! She was so sweet and was the perfect guide to provide our rides. VVR includes all transportation from Steamboat and back and forth to the airport. We had an incredible time from Skiing at Steamboat, horseback riding, fat Biking, snowmobiling, sleigh rides w/ our wonderful wrangler Gigi! The dog sledding was definitely fun. Nate took us out snowmobiling and there was nothing better than going through the mountains on a gorgeous sunny day. He was great and so much fun. He was always so gracious and took many pictures that were stunning with the mountains as the most picturesque backdrop. The Lost Ranger house was an exceptional accommodation. There was everything we needed and more. We especially loved the stocked refrigerator and snacks and toiletries that are local and made at VVR. The hot tub on the porch was amazing as well. The food was much more than we ever could have imagined! Every single meal was delicious and would rival any top Chicago restaurant. The entire staff at the ranch was first class. The horses are so well trained. My horse was Buster and he was the perfect horse for my rookie abilities! I spent the first few hours in the riding area getting to know my horse. In the afternoon we went riding again and the day couldn’t have been more gorgeous. The sun is always shining and there is no sky that is more blue. Another great touch was the freshly baked cookies provided all throughout the day. Our family really enjoyed the happy hours before dinner in the main lodge. We met some fantastic new friends. Dancing and the band the last night was the perfect way to end our trip. One of the most beautiful sites every morning was when they brought the horses from the winter pasture past the main lodge. Absolutely stunning! We have some awesome videos that we will treasure for many years. We can’t wait to go back and try a different season to experience all the different activities. I would highly recommend a week long stay. There is so much to do and just not enough time. I give VVR the highest rating available! It’s the perfect family vacation.

So I was invited to go away for a week to Vista Verde. Was supposed to be last winter and cancelled due to Covid and was able to make it happen this past week, end of August. I am a go to vegas, house in Florida, northern Michigan traveler. I golf, eat, watch television and getting away from it all is fine, but I do not crave it. Vista Verde is truly getting away, although for the one percent of the one percent, which they don't shy from.
The accommodations are great, we were in Big Agnes, which came sleep four, or five, marble and tile baths, heated floors, good towels and good linens. the furniture fits the scene but is clearly very high end. no mini bar, snacks they replenish at will. each cabin has a hot tub looking over the mountains, we also had rusty and grey, deer sleeping in our back yard the whole time.
I did a blog(free just for fun nothing commercial, so feel free to read and see pics and more details
scottdsitner.com
Food was great, and rituals any top restaurant anywhere. No Im not kidding, the veal chop and lamb was some of the best I have had, breakfasts custom made, amazing pancakes, they even heated the mugs in the morning. Three formal dinners which just means fancier food, I wore nothing but jeans the whole trip, don't bring anything fancier.
I went riding, hiking, archery, snuck in 9 hoes in steamboat, and a day of shopping also. The guests again were great, friendly and down to earth here, belying much of what they do. The staff could not have been nicer, Covid was recognized and masks mostly worn by staff, but vaccine taking seemed to be hit and miss, but they were all honest so you can adjust choices.
Not a lot of stuff after dinner, we were in bed by 9 every night.
They call it luxury ranching, and yeah it is expensive, but that's not hidden and you seriously get what you pay for. As for being "away", there is internet in the lodge, some signals in the cabins(no televisions) and phones kinda sort work. So you do not have to be truly disconnected in full, but if you need to be on constant touch, you may have some issues.
I may not go every year, lots did, but for something different, I cannot recommend this more. I am trying to think of bad things, one night the halibut wasn't great, I'd like some more social things after dinner, but seriously, nothing else. A great trip, go if you can

Wow, thank you for this amazing review. We love that you gave it a try coming here with your lovely lady, even though it doesn't match your normal travel style. It was wonderful meeting you and watching you enjoy the ranch at your own pace. If we don't get to see you every year, that just makes us look forward more to the time you come back! Hey, maybe a winter visit next....we'll keep our fingers crossed. Thanks again, and we can't wait to check out your blog! Steph and the VVR crew

Driving down the long entrance lane is a beautiful beginning to our stay. The location of ranch surrounded by mountains and wildlife is breathtaking and awe inspiring. Greeted by smiling and extra friendly staff who are very accommodating and efficient.Cabin was outstanding and comfortable....great views! Food choices and quality can't be described adequately. Outstanding and delicious! Staff are A-1 people who are very friendly and accommodating. All the choices for adventure or relaxation you could ask for. For the second year in a row we visited the ranch in August. What an incredible place!! The horse riding experience is just fantastic and with so many horses and wranglers a program can be tailored for a new rider or experienced one. The kids program is incredible as well with kids as young as 7 riding every day. You don’t need to be a rider to love this place with the biking, fishing, hiking, yoga, archery, wine tasting etc as alternatives. The food is so amazing and no one missed a meal. All that being said, what makes this place so special is the staff who greets you by name and truly makes you feel welcomed as part of the family. I’m writing this on my last day here and already missing the place. If you like the outdoors for a family vacation you will be hard pressed to find anywhere that compares to Vista Verde Ranch!!

Our family just returned from spending New Years Eve week at Vista Verde Ranch. Fantastic week all around. Activity highlights included archery, cross country skiing, horse riding, dog sledding, tubing and dancing. The fireworks show on New Year’s Eve is set off with mountains as the back drop and it would easily beat any one I have seen in the past. Multiple times during the week I was with my family riding horses or enjoying dinner watching the snow fall on the beautiful mountain thinking that this place reminds me of a movie setting. Add in the warmth, kindness and genuineness you feel from guests and the VVR team as well as the beautiful lodge and fireplace and it feels exactly like a Hallmark Christmas Movie. My kids and about 12+ other kids would sit in the lodge and play cards for hours after dinner and their laughter filled the lodge with reassuring sounds of what is right in the world. Our food was spectacular – the Bison was my favorite meal of all time. As always, the VVR team is the special sauce of this place. They make everything seem so effortless, behind the scenes and natural that there is a rhythm to the place that makes it seem more like a family gathering than a hotel/resort. I find so much joy in meeting the younger men and women who work on the ranch. Each of them is accomplished in their own right, but they all share a very similar trait - Excited to serve the guest while always being polite and helpful. My girls come away from every trip with another group of role models. My family feels blessed to be a part of this ranch family.

This has definitely been one of the greatest experiences in all of my family’s lives. Usually when we get home from vacation my sister and I really want to go back but my parents want to go to new places. Although, when we got home from Vista Verde Ranch as usual my sister and I wanted to go back, and this time both of my parents did too! We waited for a couple days to see if there was an opening for next summer. The ranch called and we were all set. We all started cheering and jumping up and down. The things that were so great about the ranch were not just the amazing accommodations, but the people there that really made us want to go back. Everyone there were the nicest and most considerate people I have ever met. It was really fun to see all the people that met there seven years ago and keep coming back the same week as each other. It’s really cool how you can stay best friends just by seeing each other 7 days a year! All of the staff would be willing to help with anything you need. The horses were another favorite part. I had Sonja and she is definitely the best horse I have ever ridden in my life. The wranglers were so great at pairing up humans and horses so you could have the best possible time. The food was delicious. I especially liked the jar of freshly baked cookies that had a new flavor each day. On Wednesday night at dinner everyone was talking about how fun the Barn Dance was. I am not a dancer at all, but when my parents said the it was time to go back to our cabin, the only thing I wanted to do was stay. It was so fun being able to dance with all of rose people and that was definitely a highlight. We did it again on Saturday and it was still extremely fun, although everyone was a little more sad at the thought of leaving tomorrow. This is such an amazing trip and we hope to be back every year!

Wow, this is such a nice review, thank you!! We had the best time having you here, and love that you loved Sonja so much. She's a sweetie, isn't she? That was really awesome of you to take the time to write this review. It's cool for other kids to hear about the ranch from someone closer to their age. It's so exciting that you're coming back next year, and we can't wait to see you again! I'll make sure to give Sonja a hug from you tonight. Thanks again, Steph and the VVR crew

Just finished another wonderful week at Vista Verde. It was my 12th visit. Vista Verde is the only ranch I've visited more than once. The staff is wonderful; kind, happy, caring, and just a pleasure to be around. The horse program is great! The horses are well taken care of, and are strong and focused. Good for experienced and inexperienced riders. They offer riding clinics to help with your riding skill. The trail rides are beautiful. They also offer river fly fishing, hiking, biking, yoga under the aspens, or you can chose to hang out. It is like a camp only for adults . (Sept is adults only.) There is a barn dance where they walk you through doing line dances, and a live band and dancing one night. When you leave, you spend 20 minutes just hugging the wonderful guests you've met. About 50% of the guests during our week were returning guests. I've met wonderful people, and have become close friends with them even outside of the ranch. If you're going by yourself, which is what I did for years, don't worry, the guests and staff make you feel welcome. This is an all inclusive ranch, with gourmet meals, beautiful accommodations, and you only pay if you want to fish on private waters or take a balloon ride. We've been here in the fall and winter, and both times are magical.

We have visited other ranches but have returned to VVR for 12 years because it is the best in so many ways. Caring, personable staff, cozy accommodations, gourmet food and wine, gorgeous location, a herd of 100 horses, biking, hiking, fly fishing for warm weather adult week and much more during family periods in summer and winter. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

If you DON'T like super-comfortable accomodations, exceptionally good food, exciting options in which to enjoy the beautiul...no... spectacular outdoors, and (to top it off) to be treated like the most valued family member, by a staff that is truely the best at what they do (individually and collectively), then VVR is NOT the place for you. One more thing i would be remiss to not mention. We have met some wonderful people (guests),with whom we shared the week, and who truely
highlighted an already wonderful experience! The downside of VVR.....IT'S REALLY HARD TO SAY GOODBYE!!

This was the most relaxing, enjoyable and refreshing vacation we have had in years. The staff was incredible. I wish we could give a shout-out to them all, but I would run out of space. We found VVR by accident because Covid kept us from going to an island, and we are so glad we did! The cabin was warm and cozy with a great fireplace. Our cabin was next to the corral and our bedroom looked out on the horses and the combination of the mountains and the horses close to our window was a picture postcard. The food was incredible and rivaled some of the finest restaurants in which we have eaten. Anything you could want was waiting for you in the room, and a few surprises as well. When we arrived, there was champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate our anniversary. One of the best things, besides the activities, was the lack of internet. No cell, no texts, no emails. Complete escape from the world. It was fantastic. We are definitely coming back...and staying longer!

Hi there, and thanks for your interest in Vista Verde Ranch! If you go into the review area and select solo as an option the page will show you all reviews from solo travelers. I was hoping I could get you a url so you could just click to it, but that doesn't seem to be an option. Please feel free to call or email us with any other questions. We'd be happy to walk you through the options for a visit and share more about coming to the ranch as a solo traveler. We hope to have you join us out here at some point!
We’ve been going.....and loving.....VVR for 10 years, and To the best of my knowledge there is no a cowgirls week, per se. however, many times during our adult week, there have been groups of gals enjoying a great week together.
WiFi is plenty strong enough in the lodge to get work done and there are nice corners to work in the great room.
Hi bomberro05! I apologize for the slow reply, but I just returned from being out of the country, and didn't have my tripadvisor login with me to answer sooner!
Our stays during that time of year run Sunday-Sunday. We do have one cabin that is available for both the weeks of September 17-24 and September 24-Oct 1. That is a gorgeous time of year to visit, as typically you will see peak colors with the aspens and foliage changing for the fall. We offer guided hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, horseback riding, horsemanship clinics, rock climbing, yoga, Pilates, cooking class, wine tasting, photography workshop....phew, the list goes on!
To get a better idea of pricing, I'm going to point you towards our rates page, so you may see all that is included. I can't post a link here, but if you go to our website, then hover over Explore, then click on Summer under the Rates heading you can see them. It's pretty clean and easy- we like to keep it simple and make your vacation relaxing so you're not worrying about what costs what along the way.
Please don't hesitate to contact myself or Devyn in the office if you'd like to explore this a bit further. 800-526-7433
Thanks again for reaching out, and we hope to see you sometime in the future!
Cheers,
Stephanie
