What a wonderful stay! This lodge is small and intimate. During covid every one up here is doing their best and their best outstrips the efforts of most places I've seen. The staff is amazing and kind, so helpful! The lodge is dog friendly and when one of my pups panicked (he had never traveled with us before) and bolted from our room, one of the staff members was amazing at corralling our dog and not making a big deal out of it, simply understood that these things happen. There is also a bar and restaurant on site, with a great beer garden and live music on weekends. The food was outstanding and drinks were great. And again, everyone did amazing with mask wearing and distancing.

We booked our room at the last minute on a “passing thru” after a 8 day trip. We were just coddiewompling (no plan) so we got this room just hours before we arrived. This was during Covid so hotel closed at 5:00, we arrived late and left next morning so we never saw another person. And you know what? We loved that! They left us breakfast in our fridge and we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The room was cozy and quaint and we opened the windows and listened to the coyotes howl at night! The next morning we had our coffee in the room watching sunrise over the quaking aspens! Even the drive up made us decompress as we saw abundant wildlife from marmots to elk on the scenic road in. It was perfect for us. Quiet and close to nature! Exactly what a getaway should be!

Well worth the 5-mile trip on the unpaved but very well-maintained access road from State Route 50, this unique inn’s restaurant is a gathering place for area community residents and visitors. Waitstaff greet visitors and familiar customers cheerfully; menu is more elaborate than expected.Modern rooms have eclectic decor that resonates with the rural surroundings. Luxurious comfy bed. Gas fireplace warms your body and soul. Generous range of breakfast items are set up the night before to allow early risers easy access. Black Canyon Park is fairly nearby. Open year-round, serves local snowmobile trail riders. Check with staff about access road conditions. Note that Route 50 is closed this year for bridge replacement east of Arrowhead, so plan to drive in from Montrose.

We were visiting the Black Canyon of the Gunnison (reviewed by me separately) and stayed at the Arrowhead during the night between the North Rim and South Rim visits.
Arrowhead is a beautiful small (12 rooms) mountain lodge accessed by a mountain dirt road leaving Hwy 50 half way between Montrose and Gunnison.
The rooms are beautiful, all in wood and with pretty mountain views (including wildlife!!).
The restaurant was warm and with a friendly atmosphere and good food!!
Breakfast was waiting for us in a few refrigerators with clear labels on them and we helped ourselves....Very tasty!!.
Wonderful Experience!! Great Hotel!!

We picked this lodge because we would rather stay in the mountains than in a hotel in the city. The drive up to the lodge was just beautiful, and easy to find. We arrived before check-in which is later than normal hotels so we just had a drink at the bar and walked around the the community that is up there. Staff was all very friendly and we made our way up to our room and it was just perfect. The bed was one of the more comfortable beds I have slept in in any hotel around the world. I have a bad back so this was such a relief. The bathroom was small but it didnt bother me. They had all the amenities that you would find at a hotel plus little chocolates :) It had a mini fridge stocked with OJ, Milk and some homemade muffins and cereal. This was just a little added bonus that we loved. The food at the lodge was okay, nothing over the top. I would recommend the soup and the dipped fries! I would stay here again if we are ever in that part of Colorado. Highly recommend this lodge instead of a hotel in the city.

This place is a joke. My husband and I book a room here for one night and it was the ultimate Bates Motel experience.
Moldy smelling room, dogs barking and whimpering at night, and obnoxius guests slamming doors through the night. There was no staff on site to check us in. When we asked an employee from the restaurant, we were told that they were on a break and that we will have to wait. Food was mediocre at best and kind of pricey for fried food. The pictures you see on their website are deceiving. Place looks more like a BBQ honky tonk place than a lodge. Our room had a fan attached by a rope to an open window for ventilation. You have two choices. Leave the window open for ventilation and hear every conversation that is going on outside, plus the music they have playing or close the window and choke on the strange moldy smell.
I got the impression that guests are left on their own if something happens after hours. There is a phone on the lobby for instructions to call in case of an emergency. So if something happens, hope for the best, say a prayer and call 911.
There are better places to stay in the area . Stay away from this one.

I would have given a better rating, but there was just too much cigarette smoke coming up from the back of the kitchen. My room was a unit above it. The employees were constantly out there smoking and chatting, so I was unable to keep my window open for fresh mountain air. Instead, it smelled of cigarette smoke every time I tried to open a window. Plus the chit chat of employees, some of which was foul language, was not appropriate.

My room was in the back of the hotel, overlooking the employee parking lot. Besides the constant smoking and resulting smell of cigarettes, the view was ruined because of all of the junk laying around everywhere! I understand this is a funky mountain inn, but at least try to put the wood scraps and stuff out of view of paying customers? Maybe try to improve the 'view' a bit for the price that is paid?

There was also a lot of noise coming from the back, like an industrial fan or something. It wasn't peaceful and I had to sleep with earplugs, which is ironic, considering this place is somewhat remote.

The land around the hotel is great and wildlife is abundant. I ate a basic meal at their restaurant. The service was good and the pricing was fair.

One other thing I would improve is the lighting inside the room. You had a choice of a cheap, harsh light above the door, or one miniscule light across the bed that was not bright. There was no bed-side light adequate for reading.

I would stay here again if the opportunity presents itself. I appreciate that they are dog-friendly. I would just hope for a better room that isn't above the kitchen. It's too bad so many hotels say they are dog-friendly, charge you extra, but then they give you the least desirable room.

I am so glad we chose this hotel! The lodge was awesome and the attention to detail is noticeable. We spent some time talking to the owner, Pat, and he really has a lot of pride in this place (and is quite creative behind the bar). Dani, our waitress, was very sweet. The food was amazing! We also talked to some of the locals in the area that came to the hotel. This is the only bar/restaurant/hotel on the mountain and with the road closure at the bottom of the mountain, it makes it difficult to get in and out. I love that the locals frequent this place. Everyone was so friendly. Like almost too friendly, if that’s possible, but absolutely refreshing to see with so much hate in the world. Wish we could’ve stayed longer than a night, it’s an awesome place! Just keep an eye on the road closure timeline before you book!

Great family atmosphere. If I remember right the menu says "relax your home let's take care of you".

Stayed here after visiting property daughter had purchased. Comfortable room at a great price. Food and drinks in the restaurant were excellent. Friendly staff. Great place to get away from it all.

Only give a 4 as free breakfast needs improvement.

When they show you to your room be sure to ask how to operate the tv and the fan. We couldn't figure them out.
