I would have given a better rating, but there was just too much cigarette smoke coming up from the back of the kitchen. My room was a unit above it. The employees were constantly out there smoking and chatting, so I was unable to keep my window open for fresh mountain air. Instead, it smelled of cigarette smoke every time I tried to open a window. Plus the chit chat of employees, some of which was foul language, was not appropriate. My room was in the back of the hotel, overlooking the employee parking lot. Besides the constant smoking and resulting smell of cigarettes, the view was ruined because of all of the junk laying around everywhere! I understand this is a funky mountain inn, but at least try to put the wood scraps and stuff out of view of paying customers? Maybe try to improve the 'view' a bit for the price that is paid? There was also a lot of noise coming from the back, like an industrial fan or something. It wasn't peaceful and I had to sleep with earplugs, which is ironic, considering this place is somewhat remote. The land around the hotel is great and wildlife is abundant. I ate a basic meal at their restaurant. The service was good and the pricing was fair. One other thing I would improve is the lighting inside the room. You had a choice of a cheap, harsh light above the door, or one miniscule light across the bed that was not bright. There was no bed-side light adequate for reading. I would stay here again if the opportunity presents itself. I appreciate that they are dog-friendly. I would just hope for a better room that isn't above the kitchen. It's too bad so many hotels say they are dog-friendly, charge you extra, but then they give you the least desirable room.

This was our second visit to AML. The grounds and lodge were wonderful. The entire staff was warm and welcoming. The room was perfect - microwave, fridge, fireplace. The breakfast was hearty - a great way to start the day. Having the on-site restaurant is a bonus.

Set back in the mountains, if you are looking for a country experience that is totally one of a kind with super friendly people then this is the place. They give you ample warning about the 5 mile dirt road to get to their lodge, but that is part of the charm. However being able to sleep at night is important. We were in the “fishing” room. Outside but against the building was some machine that ran until 2:30 am. It sounded like something tumbling metal lawn chairs around. My husband went out to the car to get his noise canceling head phones and I took a sleeping pill. I’m stuck writing a negative review about such a cute lodge but we had a lot of driving to do and needed a good nights sleep. Great dinner, music Saturday night, great breakfast, cute room, I just couldn’t go back.

The five-mile dirt-road was in good condition and even my Toyota sedan made it up with ease. I got to the lodge and found it very nice, comfortable, and clean. The room was great. The restaurant far exceeded my expectations and all the staff I met were very friendly, kind, and helpful.

Stayed here after visiting property daughter had purchased. Comfortable room at a great price. Food and drinks in the restaurant were excellent. Friendly staff. Great place to get away from it all. Only give a 4 as free breakfast needs improvement. When they show you to your room be sure to ask how to operate the tv and the fan. We couldn't figure them out.

I am so glad we chose this hotel! The lodge was awesome and the attention to detail is noticeable. We spent some time talking to the owner, Pat, and he really has a lot of pride in this place (and is quite creative behind the bar). Dani, our waitress, was very sweet. The food was amazing! We also talked to some of the locals in the area that came to the hotel. This is the only bar/restaurant/hotel on the mountain and with the road closure at the bottom of the mountain, it makes it difficult to get in and out. I love that the locals frequent this place. Everyone was so friendly. Like almost too friendly, if that’s possible, but absolutely refreshing to see with so much hate in the world. Wish we could’ve stayed longer than a night, it’s an awesome place! Just keep an eye on the road closure timeline before you book!

The 5 mile road was not bad and we were in a little car. The lodge was quaint and clean. Bed was super comfortable, the fire place was a nice treat, and the shower head was nice to wake up too. Don't forget to leave time to go four wheeling. Wonderful stop on our travels from Telluride to Denver

What a cool place in a great location. Arrived in the dark late and needed staff to locate our room key at 11pm. Very friendly and happy to help us. Getting to the lodge in the dark was our favorite adventure of our summer trip. You have to stay here. It's off the trail literally but totally worth the drive.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Arrowhead for our Birthdays. Richard checked us in and was also bartender. Great personality, Melinda was our waitress and just as efficient (she was the only one one the floor). Our room was exceptional, huge shower and fireplace. The housekeeper escorted us to our room. The continental breakfast was in our mini fridge. Roberta was the chef, food was the best ever.

I was not able to make my reservation due to car troubles and the staff there were really understanding and didn't charge me cancelation fees. I was really looking forward to staying there and will most definitely be going there on my next trip.
