We have been going to Rainbow Lake as a family for over 8 years and it keeps getting better and better. The managers this year were so nice and made our stay so much more enjoyable. Highlight was fishing & seeing the MOOSE!!!! Highly recommend!

My mother had been going to Rainbow Lake Resort for the past 15+ years and loved it! We went this year and we were greatly disappointed. The property is under new management. We will not be going back as long as they are there. After driving 16 hours, we arrived at our cabin only to find it had serious septic issues. There is no way anyone with a sense of smell could stay in that cabin! We discovered through conversation with The property managers that they were aware of the problem yet didn’t let us know before we started our travels. They “kindly” offered us an upgrade cabin, but for only 2 of our 7 nights. It was a lovely cabin. There wasn’t any room at the resort other than a “motel” room in the lodge for the remainder of our time. We had these reservations for almost a year and were looking forward to special mother/daughter time. The Colorado experience we had dreamed of was a cabin, not a motel room. Due to COVID, we were unable to find another cabin to stay at in the area. We were so angry and disappointed in the way we were treated by management that we didn’t want to stay at Rainbow Lake Resort any longer than necessary. So we drove home. 32 hours of travel and only 41 hours of rest for a disabled 78 year old. You’ve heard of mama bears, I think I may be a daughter bear. So aggravating! Honestly, there is so much more I could say about management and how we were treated, but it would take too much time. I will however tell you that I asked one of the managers if she had checked the cabin before we arrived, since they were aware of the problems, she informed me she “never goes into the cabins”! Ugh! Coming from the hospitality profession myself, this floored me! The property owners should seriously reconsider who is running their property.

A very quiet and peaceful escape for my boyfriend and I. We hiked, fished - caught both Rainbow and Brown Trout, walked around the lake, and soaked in the 14er views. We also saw a handful of deer around the property. I can’t wait to come back next year!

I knew when I booked this, it was a rustic, and older type resort. If you want fancy, and modern, don’t book this, but if you want rustic charm, peace and quit, relaxing, fishing, and easy hiking in a awesome setting, this is the place. Doug and Kathy (managers) were very helpful, and keep things clean and organized . We only stayed 2 days, but we will be back for sure. This will be our new base camp for exploring . A couple of tips. There is no wifi or tv in the cabins, they do have WiFi at the main lodge and a large great room open to all quests. Next time we may load some movies on the lap top for watching in the cabins Also Colorado was in a burn ban and we could not use the charcoal grills. I would suggest taking a tailgating style propane grill. There are Restaurant's and groceries 10 mins away in Buena Vista.

The surrounding scenery was beautiful and the grounds seemed to be ideal for family fun. Unfortunately, the hospitality personnel was cold and unhelpful. They were more about imposing rules than they were about being warm and inviting. When we told them that our kitchen sink was barely working, they said that it was a typical problem for our particular cabin and that we effectively had to "deal with it." In addition an atypical late summer snowfall left 6 inches of snow on our deck and the walk way up to the cabin entrance was a sheet of ice. It was clear that no effort had been made to clear it for guests or even put salt down to avoid slipping. It was an accident waiting to happen. The rec room was worn and tired. When we went to the front desk to ask for foosball balls we were told that the balls were already in the foosball table. When I said they weren't there I was told to lift up the table and shake it because the balls often got stuck. After taking quite a while to shake them free and finding that it didn't work, I was met with a shoulder shrug and given ping pong balls to play foosball. (No offer was made to have maintenance go down and resolve the problem.) As for the ping pong table, it was dilapidated and uneven. All in all, it was as though the rec room had been ignored and not maintained. All in all the attitude and lack of attention from the front desk personnel has turned us off from wanting to return. It turned what was to have been a fun adventure with my my son-in-law and grandson ended up being somewhat of a downer experience.
