"OUR HOUSE", an escape from reality!
Our House is built in the 'long style' around a private courtyard offering peace and privacy, adorned by four stone kamaras (arches), three traditional ovens, barbeque and our relaxing water wall. Lovely views of the village and mountains from roof top open-air patio adorned by a mature grape vine.
We have preserved the original rooms of our completely restored country house and their names derive from their original usage. The Shelonari, Kellari and the Terratzo Spito. Today Our House offers three private double bedded rooms with en-suites bathroom. Each room has special pieces of antique hand carved furnishings, the bed is graced with a hand made crocheted bedspread, under floor heating and ceiling fans. Rooms open to the large private central courtyard with its Jacuzzi and relaxing water wall. Enjoy the comfortable sitting room with fireplace and television, the open-air roof patio where you are welcome to enjoy the view, the warm rays of the sun, the cool breeze and the magnificent night sky!
Enjoy wonderful hospitality. Your Hosts: George and Donna Marie are on premise to enhance your comfort. Better yet, treat yourself to the taste of real village life. Go to the "vraktee" (adjoining backyard) pick some figs from our trees-or maybe apricots, then enjoy our village breakfast...Cracked green olives, local cheese, home made marmalade... Dinners available by arrangement, with hot home made bread and traditional food from the wood fired stone oven...Uummm. Afternoon coffee, refreshing beverage and some home made pastry.
If you are relaxed and recharged you want to be out and about....By foot there is the Vavla nature trail. Wildlife enthusiasts will be fascinated by the local flora and fauna. A great area for mountain bike riding, or take to the road and do your mini 'Tour de Vavla" Cyprus has endless archaeological ruins, museums of all types. Location, location, location, with plenty of interesting places to visit only a short drive away, local winery, monastery, archaeological sites, nature trail and woodland walks.

We left feeling full and happy. Would highly recommend stopping in. I have never stayed but I'm sure that the accommodation is just as special.
The Cypriot countryside is really beautiful, with abundant Mediterranean vegetation and lovely old houses, many of which restored and extremely well kept. Vavla is a tiny, picturesque piece of heaven where the sun shines almost every day of the year. We loved walking through the narrow streets, admiring the orange-trees, olive-trees and the numerous multi-colored flowers decorating each and every corner of the village.
The accommodation at "Our House", Donna Marie and George Pavlou's traditional stone renovated country house exceeded all of our expectations! We stayed in the Kellary bedroom (with ensuite bathroom), a spacious room with old, wonderfully restored furniture - a king-size bed (we slept so well!), nightstands, wardrobe, table/desk, chairs and armchairs, and let's not forget the Egyptian chandelier which is a true work of art! In the morning, when opening the ceiling-high windows, the sun-rays invade the whole room like rivers of liquid gold and the sight of the vigorous, bright-green plants in the yard makes you want to jump out of bed and begin the day with a large smile on your face!
The breakfast served at "Our House" was delicious - it included classics, like fried eggs with bacon, butter with honey or marmalade (homemade!!!), or cheese and vegetables, but also traditional combinations (a local type of fresh cheese with honey) or gourmet dishes (French toast). The extra cups of coffee were a nice "bonus" as well - much appreciated!
Nevertheless, the ultimate experience was Dinner - prepared by Donna Marie from fresh, local-sourced ingredients, with the skilled hands of an experienced chef! We were absolutely delighted with the carefully-cooked dishes, accompanied by home-made bread and tasty wine from the local winery! And we also "took home with us" some very interesting recipes!
We loved it at "Our House", we recommend it wholeheartedly and we hope to return to Donna Marie and George's soon.
On last important thing: if you rent a car, you can get from Vavla to practically any place in Cyprus - we went to several beaches, to several archaeological (ancient) sites, Nicosia, Larnaka, etc. It is also a great place to visit any time of the year - we had really warm (and dry) weather at the beginning of December!
The first thing you will see is the house (actually it's the fruit trees with so many different homegrown fruits) and you can see instantly it has been beautifully restored with so much love and attention and instantly gives a rustic cosy feel to your morning/evening and if you ask nicely for a tour you will see that this is carried out throughout the rooms that have been beautifully restored.
And then there are the hosts - Donna and Georgios - what an amazing pair, warm, welcoming, entertaining and superb hosts, they really did make our weekend that extra special.
And the pièce de résistance - THE FOOD!! I am rarely lost for words but I was absolutely blown away. Donna is such a perfectionist and so would I be if I could cook like this amazing lady!
Served in their dining room overlooking the courtyard, just about every ingredient has been lovingly grown by this couple and it seriously works. We were treated to the best Greek salad I have ever tasted, Tavas and Kleftiko cooked in the traditional clay oven, home made jams and marmalades, home cracked almonds, home baked bread, home made apple cake, stunning roast pork that melted in the mouth and so so much more.
I cannot recommend this gorgeous place enough, if rustic charm with food to warm the soul and smiles to warm your heart and great conversation is what you are after then this place has it all.
Thank you for making our weekend that little bit extra special!
