This was our stay on day 8 of our Portland to San Fransisco road trip. A real luxurious stopover, would have loved to stay longer. This hotel has been lovingly restored and their attention to detail is wonderful. We dumped our luggage and hit the pool, this was just the way to unwind after a long drive. Humming birds were... We're glad you enjoyed your visit. Nearly all of our rooms have verandas and it is nice to sit outside in the morning with your coffee or tea, or in the afternoon with a glass of Lake County wine. Sorry about those pesky mosquitoes! We do have a small bottle of repellent at the front desk. We hope next time... More

We were told by our friends to visit the Lake County vineyards. They had lived in Sacramento so were familiar with the area. At first my wife looked for accommodations on the lake. She came across this historical hotel and decided this was going to be the place. We booked for three nights. The room was cozy and decorated to... More

Thank you for your nice comments. The music that is provided at the Blue Wing on Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays evenings has been very well received and many local/regional groups perform. We now have about 30 wineries all around the lake, promoting their award winning wines. And like you said, after a day of sight seeing, it's nice to relax... More

Late 1800's feel. The history of this hotel is so interesting. It is a historical point of interest. Quiet. Quaint. Clean. Felt like we had gone to grandma's house. Linen robes included. We stayed in the main old house room 4, shower looks cool with surrounding spray, was unique but horrid. Pull chain toilet stuck a few times and ran... More

Thank you for your detailed review! We're glad you enjoyed many aspects of the hotel and the food at the Blue Wing. How great that you went out onto the lake. Bird life is abundant in the lake and along the shore. Our little town is fairly sleepy, but there are 30 wineries all around the lake and plenty of... More

You,ll never regret staying here. The rooms are a delight, we stayed in one of Victorian rooms on the second floor of the main building and my wife fell in love with the wraparound porch. The Blue Wing is right next door so if you're looking for a get-away this is the place.

Thanks for the nice words and we're glad you enjoyed the wraparound porch. All of our rooms have verandas which are ideal for having a cup of coffee or tea in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. Our Blue Wing Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day. Hope to see you again. More

I went to Upper Lake to visit with old friends. They recommended the Tallman Hotel. Frankly, I wasn't expecting much but what a find! The hotel was beautiful. The room spacious and comfortable. The staff was super friendly and helpful. All in, I will always stay at the Tallman when I visit Upper Lake, Ca.

Thank you for your comments and we're glad you'll be coming back to visit. The little town of Upper Lake has a tasting room and a few nice shops to peruse, and Clear Lake is only about 10 minutes away. More

We always love staying here at the Tallman Hotel. Very clean, Blue Wing Restaurant next door and beautiful rooms. My only complaint is the swimming pool is never heated. The hot tub is always nice after a full day on the Harley but I would love for them to heat the pool as well.

Well-appointed, historic hotel with a connected restaurant/bar perfect for an overnight getaway! Not much in the town itself, but wineries within driving distance on the lake. Continental breakfast included and great veranda and outdoor dining area for relaxing. Staff was helpful and room was updated while keeping with historic nature of the hotel. A hidden gem!

This is my second visit to the Tallman and it is now, officially, my favorite Bay Area getaway for relaxing. I get the beautiful rooms with the ofuro tubs, which are on a pretty little private patio, and I spend my weekend soaking, dining at the Blue Wing Saloon, reading, strolling the tiny main street and then rinsing and repeating.... Thank you so much for your kind words. Our "ofuro" rooms, with teak Japanese soaking tubs, are our most popular rooms. Our tiny Main Street is starting to pick up a bit, with one tasting room, the Upper Lake Mercantile, and a couple of antique/collectible shops. We hope to see you again in the coming months. More

I don't know where to start, but this was exactly the relaxing getaway we were looking for! A two and a half hour drive from SF, it is perfect for a couple nights away from the city. Despite reopening ten years ago, they have done a great job of keeping everything fresh and looking new: no chipping paint or stains.... More
