This is our second time in this resort. It never disappoints. The facility amenities are plentiful for our family. Having the movie theater just for us is a always a treat. We’ve stayed here during summer and fall. We are not a big winter family, so those “off” season is perfect for us. The surrounding areas of North Lake Tahoe is a bit more relaxed than the south side, but still plenty to do. We hike, bike, water sports, etc. The town of Truckee is a must if you are staying here.

The property is conveniently located at the Village at Northstar. The units are nicely finished, though the main building, built in 2008, is showing signs of wear. The Welk property also provides a 24/7 front desk, but I'm not sure what they do, other than program keys. They are not great at service or problem solving. There is no housekeeping, regardless of the length of stay. I appreciate that condo-hotel properties like Welk's Northstar Lodge may not service the room daily. However, I've never stayed at such a property and not had at least towel and trash services every few days and often everyday if requested. Since you are required to carry your unit trash all the way to the parking garage (the trash chute on each floor are not accessible by guests), I would suggest bringing your own strong trash bags, in addition to your personal cleaning supplies (don't forget to pack a mop!). The only cleaning supplies provisioned in the unit are a sponge and small bottle of dishwashing soap. This is not adequate to clean an 1800 square foot unit outside of a couple of night stay, especially when you are cooking. Also, while the unit provides a great view, the dirty and/or damaged window glass means you can't enjoy it fully. I live locally and chose the Northstar Lodge for a family event. I booked it, because I wanted a level of service beyond private condo rental and assumed that this property, which advertises a 24/7 front desk, concierge, and hotel-type services would make our stay more enjoyable and care-free. Honestly, I think a VRBO in the Village would provide more. The good news is that Hyatt is taking back control of this property. Personally, I would not stay here until that happens. If you are new to the Truckee are, our little town has grown significantly in full-time residents and visitors during the pandemic. The rest of the Tahoe Basin is experiencing similar increases. I recommend that you make reservations weeks in advance for all meals and activities to enjoy your holiday to the fullest.

Let me start by saying I am not a Vail fan. South Lake and Heavenly have become one of my least favorite experiences in California, as Vail has converted the area for maximum profitability and nothing else. So, I was hesitant to use a week of vacation time at Northstar. I snowboard here often, but never spend the night and have always avoided to “amenities”. I was pleasantly surprised by the Welk as well as the village. We visited during the first two weeks of June, with ski operations suspended and Mountain Biking still a few weeks off. The place was empty, and we loved it! While there weren’t many options for food and coffee around the village,, there was enough to get by. The Welk itself offered plenty to do. Between the pool, s’mores, a private theater, crafts and easy access to hiking, there was plenty to do on property. When we wanted more, Lake Tahoe was just a short drive away, replete with activities like zip lining, rafting, and lake fun. The room itself was a beautiful and spacious two bedroom condo with a full kitchen. In room laundry and dishwasher were a must for us and our four kids. Secure underground parking was also a huge plus. The Welk is the ultimate North Lake Tahoe “base camp”. We’ll be back soon.

Unfortunately our vacation was a really poor quality as most of the places were just closed in the village. No chance to dine even outdoors after 4pm, when you came down from a slope there is no chance to have a dinner anywhere at the resort. No ice-skate for kids, don't know how is this associated with COVID. No chance to get a breakfast... the only place at the resort was Starbucks you know when you come on vacation and spend about 5-7 gram a week you don't really want to enjoy a Starbucks food all day long. At least you have to think of ppl in this case and have dining options on the resort, or a delivery The staff was not really helpful at all, no explanation with a direction, the hotel didn't have any signs to the buildings, the requests to get a towel or a tooth brush were responded super slowly maybe after the 3rd call, the hotel had NO!!!! water to drink no water at all at 4,5 stars hotel not even by a request, no vending machines worked there…. No gym, no sauna, no hot tub, stay in the room and enjoy nothing
