Detailed Reviews
Hotel is located at the heart of Northstar village which is great. I came during Thanksgiving weekend but the hotel and the village wasn’t crowded, which is great!
The room is clean and the kitchen is equipped with complete amenities for our family.
The only con is no housekeeping service at all (stayed for 3 nights) I will need to call for them to send me extra toilet paper and take the trash out which is so odd. I understand that the hotel try to be ‘green’ but I think they supposed to send someone to take trash and send basic supplies daily. Also, they will charge additional cost for housekeeping service.
Also, they only offer 1 free parking per reservation (we booked 2 bedroom residence). Additional parking cost is $25/night.

We booked Northstar Lodge through Hyatt Residence Club; apparently Hyatt has a handful of rooms that they still rent out (the entire resort was a Hyatt before it was sold to Welk). This made check-in more challenging (at first Welk couldn't find our reservation) and we had to call Hyatt to request a late checkout. The 2BR unit was nicely laid out with spacious bedrooms, living room, and bathrooms, although the bed was very uncomfortable and the fireplace on the balcony did not provide enough heat to make it usable during the winter.
The ski valet was convenient; the pool area is shared by the entire Northstar community (it didn't seem crowded when we checked it out). There's no food or drink available at the lodge but you're literally steps away from all the restaurants and shops in the village (there is one convenience store with semi-reasonable prices).
Overall, nice place but for that price we're just going to try the resort up the gondola next time.

Let me start by saying I am not a Vail fan. South Lake and Heavenly have become one of my least favorite experiences in California, as Vail has converted the area for maximum profitability and nothing else.
So, I was hesitant to use a week of vacation time at Northstar. I snowboard here often, but never spend the night and have always avoided to “amenities”.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Welk as well as the village. We visited during the first two weeks of June, with ski operations suspended and Mountain Biking still a few weeks off. The place was empty, and we loved it! While there weren’t many options for food and coffee around the village,, there was enough to get by.
The Welk itself offered plenty to do. Between the pool, s’mores, a private theater, crafts and easy access to hiking, there was plenty to do on property. When we wanted more, Lake Tahoe was just a short drive away, replete with activities like zip lining, rafting, and lake fun.
The room itself was a beautiful and spacious two bedroom condo with a full kitchen. In room laundry and dishwasher were a must for us and our four kids. Secure underground parking was also a huge plus.
The Welk is the ultimate North Lake Tahoe “base camp”. We’ll be back soon.

Unfortunately our vacation was a really poor quality as most of the places were just closed in the village. No chance to dine even outdoors after 4pm, when you came down from a slope there is no chance to have a dinner anywhere at the resort. No ice-skate for kids, don't know how is this associated with COVID. No chance to get a breakfast... the only place at the resort was Starbucks you know when you come on vacation and spend about 5-7 gram a week you don't really want to enjoy a Starbucks food all day long. At least you have to think of ppl in this case and have dining options on the resort, or a delivery
The staff was not really helpful at all, no explanation with a direction, the hotel didn't have any signs to the buildings, the requests to get a towel or a tooth brush were responded super slowly maybe after the 3rd call, the hotel had NO!!!! water to drink no water at all at 4,5 stars hotel not even by a request, no vending machines worked there…. No gym, no sauna, no hot tub, stay in the room and enjoy nothing

We booked this for president’s weekend for almost $2,000 a night. The only positive thing was that is was a spacious three bedroom unit. No one opens the door for you even when you are struggling to carry heavy luggage. There is no housekeeping or a place to put dirty towels. All they do is bring you some clean towels but don’t take your dirty towels. They tell you to just leave them in a corner for our four day stay! The ski valet has only one person available to find your stuff during busy mornings. No one is there is help you get your boots on or assist when anything. You have to take stairs and walk to the gondola which is not easy. The room was dirty: under the sofa there was old food and dust. The laundry machines smelled like mildew. There is nothing you can buy out of convenience like bottled water or a muffin. No small shop or anything in the building. No one takes your garbage out . You are told to walk over to a garage carrying your trash. Lack of housekeeping is one thing, but carrying out your trash is unacceptable in an operation when there is a supposed front desk/concierge in the building. We stored our luggage in a room, and no one helped at all. They just opened the door and walked away. Even a three star hotel with assist you with all these things . We would never return to this place. If you are looking for a comfort and ease, go to the Ritz.

Northstar Resort cancelled our hotel reservation 6 days before ski week due to "overbooking". They did not offer to compensate us for any future stays. The only thing they offered was to let us have a $1700/night room which was ridiculous and way out of our budget. Due to their ineptitude, we had to cancel our entire trip. They took no responsibility for their mistake and in to make matters worse, they charged us IN FULL the day before they cancelling our room. I had to chase them down for the refund. They are a terrible and unreliable business that has no consideration for its customers. Do not book a room here.

Booked a trip for my 35th birthday. Front check-in girl was rude, acted like I was inconvienicing her by being their early. They gave us a key to the gym/pool/garage which didn't work and had to go back and get reprogrammed, and she seemed more irritated like that was my fault. The room was nice and clean. We made breakfast in the kitchenette and put all the dishes In the dishwasher which immediately leaked all over the place saturating the kitchenette floor, so good thing there were lots of towels.
We had a decent time skiing, crowded as usual at northstar.
When we went to check out our folio change was $1,760 compared to the $1,160 reservation we had. When I questioned the front desk person ( a different yet still unhelpful person) told me I had to take it up with reservations, and she gave us their number. Called reservations and they tell me to take it up with the front desk. After 4 phone calls to people you can barley understand im still out $600, and this has pretty much ruined all the fun we had for the weekend. Hopefully my credit card company can sort it out.
The property is decently nice but buyer beware-not worth the headache!

We are currently staying in this resort. In terms of resort location and room condition/cleanliness/amenities, it's fine. However, we are in room 107, which 1) is supposed to be on the first floor, but is actually more like the basement because it abuts a hill, 2) all windows look out to a retaining wall about 5 feet away, 3) there is a walkway right outside so people walk by all day in their noisy, heavy skiboots, so 4) you can't open the blinds because otherwise people can see inside. Not that it matters that you can't open the blinds, because the only view is of the retaining wall. If they just added barbed wire on top of the wall, it would complete the prison-like feel. See photos. They charge full price for this room. Learn from our experience and make sure you don't get this room if you stay in this resort. Also, when I asked if we could be moved and was told no, there are no available rooms, they told me the best way to provide feedback is to go to the timeshare presentation and talk to the people there. Ick. I understand hotels have crappy rooms and sometimes you end up in a crappy room. But being told to go to a timeshare presentation to provide feedback? No. Northstar has lots of lodging options - we'll stay somewhere else next time.

We got the auditions package. It’s a mini timeshare through Welk. I have over 20 emails with my rep, Tasha, not able to book the room we were told we could at purchase. We bought the auditions package for $3k. Thank goodness we didn’t buy the timeshare! First time we went on vacation (required multiple emails and a manager to even get a room) we had to watch a mini presentation. I panned the trip around this nonsense and they cancelled on ME. Tried to make another reservation to rid of my points. They were making me spend more points and I could have booked directly for way less! After multiple phone calls and emails I asked the manager to email me, but I just gave up on them. Decided a year later to try again. Tried to make another reservation for any weekend within 6 months before my points expired. They only had availability for 2 weekends. I picked one. Afterwards she told me I had to wake up early on vacation to attend another presentation at 8:30am or I will owe them $500. You heard that right. I cancelled and will warn everyone about this business. Booking with points is more expensive then booking directly with cash and there is more availability too. Stay away from the timeshare!

The carpet was dirty, dishes had dried-on food, TV didn’t work until i fixed it (after waiting 30 mins for someone to do it), loud neighbors, barking dogs. Kitchen sink was clogged, no bathroom cups (even cheap motels have those), no information book, no food available at all. The bed was terrible and we both did not sleep well. The beautiful location cannot make up for all of this. It tries to be a ski lodge but fails. For eg no ski racks in room. It fails both as a $350/night hotel or a ski lodge. In general there was an incredible lack of hospitality. On the plus side there was a free gondola to take you to the slopes for skiing.

We stayed at a 2 bed/2 bath condo and it had a balcony! I believe they either face a hill or the Northstar Village.
