This room should not even be in use. People are in and out of the building all night. Not only do you hear the door bang closed, the door code being punched in, people dragging there large suitcases up the uncarpeted stairs (yes it hits every step), talking and talking. The vending machines are feet from the door. So 11:30 at night we had 3 men congregating outside the machines with the munchies loudly talking for 30 minutes and cursed me out when I asked them to keep it down. I just wanted to sleep. This room is not cheap, the lift tickets aren’t either. I feel like total garbage due to poor sleep. Regret this place so much.
I stayed here on a ski trip. They called me at around 4:15 pm when I was just finishing up my day at Squaw valley and said that the office closes at 5. I said that I wasn’t sure if I could make it there by then but could be there by 5:30, depending on traffic. They said that they would email me the instructions and then proceeded to misspell my name so I didn’t get the email. I then rushed to get there and was at their office by 4:56. No one was there and it took me 8 times and over 35 minutes calling their after hours phone number for someone to answer. There was another person in the same situation as I was. I’ve stayed at hundreds of hotels and never had the office close at 5.
Keep in mind- dead of winter trip with tons of snow (thus skiing focused and not involving Lake activities). Old US-40 (old Donner Pass) closed due to heavy, heavy snow. Basically makes this location very inconvenient- usual 5 mi and 10 min trip to Sugar Bowl now 30-45 min tangle on I-80. As others said, funky old room odor is quite apparent, but not overwhelming. We were greeted by a large brown spider scurrying from under the bed at 1 am check in. And another couple opened our room door at 2am having apparently been given the same Rm# and code via email for late arrival. The parking lot was well plowed despite the snow-pocalypse. Rooms have big fridge and microwave which nice. Room heater was very toasty. Room prices quite a good value for current Tahoe expectations. Close Proximity to Truckee also a plus for enjoying town amenities…
It would have been a 5 stars review if the earliest time to check in is not 4 pm and the office closes at 5 pm. They send room # and lock code to your email anyway and if you can’t access the email you can use the phone out front to check in after hour. For me it just feels a little inconvenient. But over all this place is good to stay. I been here many times
We love this place as lodging for Winter skiing. There are a variety of room configurations available, ranging from a pretty basic 300 sq ft room, to the same size room with a compact kitchen, to lovely larger rooms and suites, with fully equipped kitchens. Some rooms, for a little more $$ have a fantastic view of Donner Lake. Even if you don't pop for the view room, there are corner lounges at the end of each building which do have that view, and that's for free.
The location is great, the room was in excellent condition. Warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The parking lot clean and well kept. We enjoyed the fireplace room on the second level and used the chairs by the waterfront to enjoy the quiet of Donner Lake.
The appliances were new, the room was clean, but the room furnishing were dated. The room was pretty dark as several lights were burned out. The bed was comfortable and the view of the lake OK. We were there in off season, but heard talking from the rooms in our building. Could be noisy in the high season.
It's an older property which has seen some wear, especially over the summer months. We arrived at night and it appeared our room hadn't been used for a few days (or longer) with a stale and odd smell. Furniture is worn and walls badly need to be painted. Touching up walls after obvious months of scuffs and wear have gone by is an easy and inexpensive fix and honestly, pretty inexcusable to neglect. They appear to have housekeeping, but aside from cleaning the obvious surfaces like counters, sinks, furniture tops - things like chairs, ceiling fans, bed headboards are dusty. Some minor things just didn't work - bathroom heater, tv in the bedroom, hairdryer. Whatever, but just a minor annoyance. Fortunately, the weather was fantastic and it allowed us to keep windows open for our long weekend stay, giving the room a much needed airing out. The super kind manager even offered to place an ozone generator in the room if we'd be out for the day to help with the odor. I've seen in other reviews that stale-smelling rooms are an issue and would like to think that it becomes an item to address. The furniture and extra blankets have absorbed the stale odor and it's certainly hard to make it go away. It appeared that our bathroom had recently been redone with new fixtures and tub insert, so that was a nice thing. The full kitchen with a stovetop was great, along with dishes and utensils to use. That being said, it's right on the lake. There are boat rentals of all types to be had rignt there and a small private beach/dock with seating was really nice. Truckee, obviously is just a few miles away and obviously Lake Tahoe is down the hill into the basin. The beautiful and quiet location is the main reason to be here. I'd give this 2.5 stars for the rooms itself, but bonus credit for it's location and beach/lounge area. Overall, as the Tahoe region has become more and more expensive to visit this is certainly a value. But with this value, there is a trade off in quality.…
I booked at Donner Lake Village based on its reviews and pictures. Please do yourself a favor by not making the same mistake. At check in the receptionist informed us there would be paving construction in the parking lot directly outside the room and that I needed to park somewhere else. The receptionist said info on this had been emailed, though no email on the matter had been sent. The room was dank and outdated. Every sound from the room above could be heard and upon asking, I was informed that no upstairs rooms were available. I refused check in based on these conditions and asked for a refund which was denied. Booking.com's request for a refund was also denied. I am now in the process of disputing the charges with my credit card. Heed my warning, avoid this establishment.
I made the reservation off an internet search for rooms in the Truckee area. I wasn't expecting much. I was blown away at the location, view, front desk service...it was all great! I wasn't in the room much as I kept busy exploring the area. The September weather is amazing and Mother Nature sure put on a show! It was a very enjoyable stay. I've been bragging about it to my wife and we intend to visit again. My room was very comfortable, for me. My wife might not find it as nice or comfortable for her taste. The room I stayed in could use an update...but I'm not complaining. I hope to be back soon!
