And so glad we did. The Inn was lovely overlooking Patrick's Point only 20 miles from one of the entrances to the Redwoods. Breakfast was yummy plus at 4 o'clock daily (& upon check-in) there was a complimentary fruit and cheese plate with wine! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We'll be back!

Property's Favorite Review
My fiancé and I stayed at the Lost Whale Inn for two nights in mid May 2022 while visiting the Redwoods National Forest. We absolutely loved our stay here, and fell in love with this charming inn. The inn keeper Sarah is wonderful! She is kind and helpful and goes out of her way to make sure all the guests are comfortable and taken care of. We were blown away by all the thoughtful details including a complimentary happy hour with specialized cheese plates for each room, smores by the fire on Saturday night and complimentary beer and wine! The breakfast is fantastic and includes delicious fresh baked goods. We also loved the amenities including the outdoor jacuzzi which is open 24 hours a day. The inn looks out to the sea and has a beautiful backyard and garden that is available for guests to enjoy. We particularly loved our room -- the Beluga Room -- which was a corner room with balcony. This is also a great room for families as it includes a loft with an additional sleeping area. The inn is well located near the Redwoods and is close to a selection of good restaurants in the town of Trinidad. Overall, could not recommend this inn enough! Sarah the inn keeper is the soul of the place, and adds special touches which makes for a truly delightful stay!

We spent two nights at this lovely and well positioned bed and breakfast, emphasis on the breakfast! A scrumptious and overflowing morning meal is served at 9 am and I would suggest altering any early plans to enjoy the bounty. The view of the ocean from the deck and lawn is just lovely, with seats where you can observe the sunset (make this part of your itinerary as well) while enjoying your personal charcuterie plate and complimentary wine or beer. Hosts Brian and Tiffany are friendly, approachable and helpful. We got great advice on both hiking and beach combing from Brian. Nearby Trinidad is a good spot to visit, the parks just north, from Sue-Meg a mile up the road to Prairie Creek a few exits up the highway, have much to offer. While Lost Whale is not a five star type of accommodation, the view, location and adds-on make for a five star experience.

This was our first trip to Northern California, so we were in aww when we stepped thru the doors and saw the amazing view right on the coast. From the beautiful Inn to the Very friendly and helpful staff to the delicious breakfasts to the evening appetizers and wine to the s'mores by the fire and the hot tub. Everything was more than we could have imagined. Our 4-night stay was just magnificent. I hope to get back to that part of CA again and enjoy another stay.

We have just had two glorious nights at this lovely B&B! B&B is an understatement, we were greeted by Brian and Tiffany with a plate of delicious food and a beautiful glass of wine! We immediately felt like family!! After an amazing nights sleep in the comfy bed we enjoyed breakfast which was an absolute feast served in the dining room overlooking the spectacular view! There is a lovely outside deck, beautiful gardens and a real treat in the evening is the roaring log fire in the garden, great way to finish off your day! We feel as though we have found a real gem, you should definitely stop here, even make it your destination! Brian us a local man who knows all the areas and is happy to advise!! We stayed in Sea Lion with our bed overlooking the view. ! Truly fantastic! Thank you both for a special stay and for helping us to create great memories!!

If you enjoy quiet and peaceful escape this is just as perfect as you will find anywhere. No TV which was actually quite nice. The location is away from any highway and in a coastal garden paradise. Whoever cares for the garden is doing a great job. Food is to die for at breakfast with a different buffet menu every morning. Hosts are quite attentive to any details. Property is beautiful and well cared for and loved by the owners. Internet is excellent. Parking is a little tight and coffee is a little weak. Please offer a pot of weak and another pot of very strong coffee! A little expensive yet one of the best places in the world to have a few days to unwind and enjoy the Redwood coast area. Nearby town of Trinidad is an uncrowded gem also.

In recent years, I’ve come to rely more and more on mid- to higher-end chain hotels because I no longer have the patience for unexpected quirkiness or adorable incompetence. I made an exception with The Lost Whale Inn because 1) after some unsettling news, I needed to escape to the boonies and 2) there are no decent chain hotels in aforementioned boonies. This place is professionally run by extremely competent hoteliers. What you see — and pay for — is what you get, and that’s a hell of a lot. So for those, like me, wary of unaffiliated lodgings, you can exhale and enjoy this clean, gorgeous, updated, comfortable hotel. The greats: Mel and Sarah who show you around. The first rate wine happy hour. The exceptional chef-coked breakfast. The over-the-top gardens and immaculate grounds. To reconsider: I stayed in the unique-view Sea Lion room which is perfectly suited to honeymoon couples… much less so for solo travelers. Very little space to walk around and no where to sit (except the bed). And the parking… yikes… it’s super tight and very difficult to back out and turn around without hitting the stone outcrops (I did). Best to park along the side of the road, if you can (there was road work going on when I was there, so I couldn’t). Other than that, as long as ownership and management stay intact as of May 2022, this is an independent place you can trust and enjoy.

Simply stated... the best BnB we've ever stayed in! Everything, from the views, location, gardens, breakfasts, wine and charcuterie tray. The barking of the sea lions and hiking in Prairie Creek Redwood State Park were our favorites!

The Lost Whale Inn was the second of the 2 B and B's my wife and I stayed in on our recent trip to Northern CA / Trinidad. As many of the other reviews have stated, the grounds / gardens are spectacular and the views from the back of the house are fabulous especially the sunsets. Other nice touches were the afternoon wine tastings accompanied with a beautiful array of appetizers that were plated for each guest room. (see picture). The staff (especially Mel) were extremely accommodating to help insure a comfortable stay including making sure there were always enough logs burning in the fire pit that was lighted every night. Unfortunately I can't give a 5 star review because the one fault (a major one) that we had was our bed. When making our original booking we were not told that the bed in the selected Beluga Whale Room was not (our preference) a king size bed. The bed was actually only a full size that in our opinion had a mattress that should have been replaced long ago. Because of the small size and lack of support, neither my wife or I got what we hoped for i.e. a great nights rest. Bottom line, The Lost Whale is a great place to stay, just be sure when your making your reservations you know what room your getting and what the accommodations are in that room

We loved everything about our stay at this wonderful B&B. - Breakfast is not only super tasty but Brian makes an effort every morning to take you through what is on offer, and personally checks on each table on questions and suggestions re local hikes etc. - The views are just wonderful from all the windows, they have a lovely balcony area and a well kept garden with a fire pit- If you are mobile you can also walk down to the beach front to get a closer look at the sea lions (Ask for a pair of binoculars to take) but the walk is very steep however was told this before we went. The beach is pebbles so do not except to lie down :) - Our room was cosy, clean and comfortable! - The owners also put out spreads of afternoon treats & complimentary drinks What really makes this BnB successful is all of the people who run it, they are all so friendly, accommodating and they care about their business but more importantly their guests. We were very sad to check out of this hotel, but hopefully will be back one day!
