Slippery Winds Wilderness Lodge is a remote, fly-in, American-Plan fishing lodge located 38 miles north of Fort Frances, Ontario. Slippery Winds is the only lodge on the lakes we fish. Our guests have access to six lakes and have the opportunity to angle for six species of sport fish - largemouth & smallmouth bass, lake trout, muskie, northern pike and walleye. With capacity limited to 18 guests our guests are ensured of friendly, personalized service.
We have been coming to SlipperyWinds 5 straight years now and every year it just gets better and better. We love the accommodations , the food is fantastic, the staff treat us like family. The fishing keeps getting better every year as we keep learning more about the 5 lakes we have access. Our last day this year we caught close to 100 large mouth bass. You cannot have a better Canadian fishing trip and experience than at Slippery Winds. That is why we keep coming back!!!!

This is an update to a review I posted earlier this year. We went back to Slippery Winds in July for what has become our favorite week of the year. I can honestly say that in the almost twenty years I have been going there the camp has never been run better. Bob the camp manager was attentive and proactive in addressing the needs of all the guests. There was noticeable improvement in the boat/motor situation I referred to in the earlier review, and what few problems we encountered were addressed promptly. The food was excellent and housekeeping in the cabins was the best I have seen. Chloe, Andrew, and the rest of the staff did a great job. The fishing? Fantastic as always. Even with the unusually hot weather we encountered we caught a number of Northern over 30 inches, Smallmouth up to 20 inches, numerous walleye up to 28 inches, Lake Trout up to 28 inches, and a large number of Largemouth including a 5 pound 20 inch fish that is the biggest I have ever caught in camp.

We went on a family trip here a few years ago and had a great time, the guides were top notch and the fishing was the best I have ever experienced.

This was our second trip to Slippery Winds. Very friendly staff and from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure the service was fantastic. Comfortable lodging and wholesome food. Our trip was in mid-June and the weather was ideal, little rain, partly cloudy skies and light breezes. They allow you to fish until 10:00 pm at this time of year. Superb fishing for walleye, muskellunge, largemouth bass, pike, smallmouth bass and lake trout. The adventure of being able to fish six different lakes for six different species of fish adds to the experience.

I have attended numerous hosted fly fishing trips to Slippery Winds Lodge on Yoke Lake and I believe it is probably the best in NW Ontario when you compare price with fishing and lodging. There are six game fish species in abundance; Smallmouth and largemouth bass, pike, musky, lake trout, and walley. We have fished the six accessible lakes from the lodge and have found many fish available for fly fishers in spring, summer, and fall conditions. The lodge staff are always excellent and work hard to be friendly and keep their clients happy. Though rustic, the cabins are comfortable, warm, and dry. Never had a complaint.

Thanks for your comments regarding your recent trip to Slippery Winds Wilderness Lodge. Slippery Winds is definitely a rustic fishing lodge with the main lodge constructed from large local pines and featuring a fieldstone fireplace in the guest lounge. While being rustic and remote, the camp is fully-modern with 24 hour electricity provided by generators; fully-modern guest cabins with either propane or electric heat and 3 or 4-piece bathrooms with flush toilets, and either a shower or tub/shower; and a state-of-the art water purification system that provides clean, drinkable water to our guests. Although only a 20-minute float-plane flight from Fort Frances, ON - Slippery Winds is located in a remote wilderness location. Being the only lodge on the lakes, limiting our guest capacity to only 18 anglers per trip, and practicing catch-and-release angling for over 20 years has made for exceptional multi-species fishing on the six lakes our guests have access to. Our trips are very attractively priced, with our fly-in packages comparable to the pricing of many less remote, drive-in or boat-in lodges. We have a great staff who do their utmost to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable and memorable fishing adventure. We look forward to the opportunity of hosting you again in the near future!

This is the best fishing experience I've ever had. There are a few things in life that everyone needs to experience and a Canadian Fishing Trip is definitely one of them. Slippery Winds is the place to do just that. We have enjoyed 5 trips to this great lodge and every year is a little different and seems to get a little better each time. The staff is awesome! They really make sure that you are taken care of. The food is great, the cold nights in the warm cabin were nice and the fishing was excellent. As long as life allows we will return every year.
I treasure my experience at this lodge and the time spent with family and friends will never be forgotten.
A+++

As a group of four, we just spent our third year up at Slippery Winds Wilderness Resort. If anything over the past 3 trips, the fishing and service has only gotten better! The fishing was great, and the variety of fish to catch due to the various lakes available for fishing is unbeatable. We went from catching a 15 pound pike on the morning of the first day to a 9.5 pound walleye on the evening of a later day. Unfortunately didn't hook into any muskie but they are certainly there as we had a couple huge fish follow to the boat only to turn away at the last second. The boats are nothing special, they get the job done, and the casting decks on them are a very nice touch. The service was great and Shannon took great care of us along with the rest of the staff. Would definitely recommend trying this place out, it offers a fantastic overall experience that is tough to find anywhere else.

I've been going to Slippery for 12 years with my son. This year my wife filled in for him and said it was a great time and that she'd be happy to go back. Being catch and release, the fish are plentiful and good size. Great that there is such a variety of fish and that there are several lakes to fish from. Generally the only people on the lakes are from the resort so there is no fishing pressure . The staff this year is a great group, and the food was excellent!. Every year the owners have been making unseen improvements to the facility and this year they are updating their dock among other things. All in all it was a great experience. Don't hesitate going!

This is a fisherman's dream. We went last year and loved it. The average walleye was around 25" with the largest exceeding 30". We caught everything from Lake trout to Smallmouth. The Team of Butch, Barry, Clyde and family was awesome. We will return very soon. If your planning a Canadian fishing trip look no further. This sure beats an outpost with the fresh meals prepared everyday and the shore lunch is to die for. Cant wait to return. Definitely bring long johns in May / early June.

I've been to Slippery Winds Wilderness Resort 15 times over the past 12 years. And without question, it's my all time favorite Canadian lodge. Service and staff are excellent, but high quality fishing is what most are looking for at a wilderness lodge, and Slippery Winds is unrivaled.
With six different gamefish and easy access to six beatuful lakes, an angler will experience fishing they only dream about. I especially love the big smallmouth bass, northern pike and lake trout, but the walleye, muskie and largemouth bass fishing is also tremendous. And the price (which includes a float plane trip right to your cabin) is a bargain. I'll be back. Tim Holschlag Minneapolis, MN
