Nestled in a prime location for wine tasting, South Coast Winery Resort & Spa is a destination with a mixed reception. While its spacious rooms and cleanliness earn praise, guests often feel that the tired atmosphere and outdated decor detract from the charm, suggesting a need for renovation. Service experiences vary, with reports of both friendly staff and less attentive service. Despite its proximity to local attractions, many find the resort overpriced, citing additional charges and overcrowded amenities that fall short of expectations for value.

We chose this location for a quick couple's get-away weekend and were blown away by the grounds! Breathtaking and walk-able, the pool area was our hang-out for the weekend, staff was attentive and helpful with wine recommendations. There was so much to see/do, but our trip was more about quality time together, so we took advantage of the villa room and the patio area our room had. Truly felt transported and will visit again.

We arrived early (2:30) and stood in line to checked in early, but our room (a Villa) was not ready and we were told to return at 4:00. Returned at 4:00 and the room was still was not ready. We didn't actually get into room until about 4:45.

However Cindy the receptionist was very helpful, apologized for the delay and gave us a 10% discount for the first night. Thank you.

If they had offered an upgrade for a Villa with a mountain view, if it was ready, I would have been happy to pay for the upgrade in order to get a room immediately. (I didn't like sitting in the lobby waiting, not knowing when we would get a room.)

Went to the pool to find that it is closed "for Covid", were we still going to be charged a "resort fee"(?), No, they removed the fee on their own. Thanks.

Pools in the neighboring counties like San Diego are open at resorts, so why not here?

Lovely restaurant here, great service, a little pricy, Good food, but my prime rib was $48, plus tax and tip and was too rare, I asked for medium. A bottle of wine $48.

On our second day, housekeeping never came to make our bed, tidy up or bring towels. We had to call for towels and they sent someone with some towels in a bag, no washcloths.

Maybe they don't offer daily maid service?

The staff was always friendly and courteous. At the restaurant, the waiters Julio and JP, could not have been more attentive.

Twice when I visited the office for maps and suggestions, Laura was very helpful. Also at check out, she was very accommodating, cheerful. Like I said, a great staff.

We were celebrating our 52 wedding anniversary, so just a few minor annoyances but still had a good time.

Here's a tip, I recommend trying Bolleros's for dinner at the Europa and also Wilson Creekside winery for lunch.

Many of the winery restaurants are still getting open and extending hours.

Great time.

The resort is beautiful, peaceful, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The small details were great (e.g., fireplace, couch and chair in room; spa tub and shower in the bathroom; toothbrush/toothpaste kit, shaver/saving cream, etc.). The hotel tower rooms had a great view of the winery.

Maybe it was an off week for them..., not sure. But everything was mediocre. The room was very nice, but the service was unprofessional yet friendly. Upon check in, we were not offered coupons for the wine tasting but learned others got them, housekeeping forgot our room one of three days, they did not replace our coffee k-cups in our room, the spa hot tub was lukewarm so we skipped it, the wine tasting offered no real knowledge of wine. But somehow we still enjoyed our stay and wish them the best. The winery/hotel has a great setting and very nice people. They need a pro to help them up their hospitality details. I say give it a try. We might return as the area is gorgeous, but needs improved attention to detail. Wish them the best.....great hikes in the Cleveland National Forest,10 miles away....

Cons:The place is dated and the service was average. It felt just like your average Hampton Inn but was much more expensive. There is no housekeeping service due to Covid but the staff should at least check in with guest to see if they need clean towels, clean glasses, water, or the trash removed. You check in and have to make due with what you have in the room until you check out, unless you call for everything and it can take a while to get them to bring what you need. The room just felt old. The bed looked lumpy, but luckily, it was comfortable enough to get a good nights rest. The ceiling fan didn't work, the tv doesn't have streaming choices, only basic cable with HBO. The shower head in our room was oddly positioned so that you can't turn it on without getting sprayed with cold water and it took several minutes for the water to get warm. So basically every morning we had to get sprayed with cold water before we could shower. The plants on the balcony look like they haven't been tended to in a while. Nothing terrible wrong or unsanitary, just not what I expected for $300 a night. Pros: The location is very convenient and the Spa had great service and skilled therapists.

Check in was an issue as well. We got there early to go wine tasting and understood that our room might not be ready but they said they would call when it was ready. They said it didn't have to be ready till 4:00. They never called. we came back at 4:20 and the room still wasn't ready. We had to wait in the lobby till about 5:30, but they had no problem taking my credit card for incidentals for a room we couldn't get into and not give us keys.

We went to your sister winery Carter's and told them we were staying at your hotel and she said we get a $5.00 discount on the tasting while we waited for our room to be ready and then she charged us full price. We loved the spa they were amazing. I give them 5 stars. Lisa and Lany did a great job. Sandy went above and beyond our expectations. She was great!! While leaving the spa to get our food out of our room and a few items, my daughter returned totally shocked. The maids had cleaned our room and threw out the food we ordered from room service including items we brought with food away. They also threw out a new swimsuit and a lulu lemon bag with our drinks we brought with us in the garbage. My daughter asked the maid where they went and the maid went to get someone to translate and she said they threw it away. They didn't know my daughter speaks Spanish fluently and understood everything she said. We had not checked out and the room was almost completely clean so they must have gone in by at least a half hour early. It was a special birthday weekend for my daughter and it was very disappointing experience. The food at the restaurant was delicious.

My husband and I first visited South Coast Winery in March of 2012. It was where my husband proposed and we had an amazing time. We booked an overnight stay for our 7th wedding anniversary this past week thinking it would be amazing to go back to where it all started and unfortunately were extremely disappointed. I made the reservation but never got a confirmation so after three messages and multiple calls I finally got ahold of someone to get the room confirmed. We took advantage of the horse and carriage package thinking it would be a great way to start the day. We arrived about two hours before thinking we could grab some wine and wander the vineyard before we were scheduled to leave. The website claimed the tasting room was open but it was closed. The only way to get wine was to order a glass or bottle with a food purchase. No tastings. No wine flights unless you’re a wine club member. And even though we had two bottles waiting for us in our room we couldn’t check in until after our carriage ride. The information we got from the website didn’t match what we were told at check in which didn’t match what we were told over by the restaurant. Quite frustrating when we just wanted to relax with a glass of wine, at a winery. The carriage ride was nice, food was great, and we finally got some wine! But for what it was we couldn’t understand why it was $300 more for the two hour excursion. Maybe thirty minutes of actual carriage ride and they dropped us at a look out spot for lunch for the rest of the time. The entertainment and wine availability for purchase ended at 5 pm back at the resort later but our dinner reservation wasn’t until 6:30. So again, how can we get more wine? I would strongly recommend waiting to go here until AFTER the virus restrictions are 100% lifted and things are back to “normal”. We understood that things were going to be different coming back with all the restrictions this time but the establishment really shouldn’t be charging what they are for the experience you’re able to get.

We recently had a (03) night stay on this property. We booked the unobstructed Mountain View villas as they were touted as the best accommodations for the property. Only one of the two rooms booked were ready at check-in time. After sometime we were finally able to utilize the second room only to find an odd noise that would continually happen anytime water was used within the (04) pod system of the villas. We soon figured out it was the water pump. The toilet had a high pitch squeal that would happen for long amounts of time and we had to take the tank lid off after every flushing to fix the problem. The fireplace was not in working order and the carpet was covered in stickers so we had to wear our shoes whenever we got out of bed. Our room was not serviced the entire time of our stay. I could understand if it was only a two night stay, but we did stay for (03) nights. This is something that was never addressed on their website or when speaking with a reservationist by phone. The garbage was overflowing at this point and we specifically had to call and ask for clean towels, which only came shortly before checkout. I would also suggest better pillows for the rooms. King sized beds usually have King sized and not standard pillows with popcorn stuffing.
The experience we had with the restaurant/bar service/tasting room was extraordinary. The food was spectacular, with a wide variety to chose from at their Sunday brunch.
It’s unfortunate that the hotel side of this property seems to be lacking. I would suggest a visit to others, but without the stay.

We stayed at the villa part of the property, so our room opens to the vineyard, it was super nice.

The staff were friendly, kind & helpful. We had our dog with us & the resort was super dog friendly, had poop bag station & trash can everywhere & nice grass patches for my dog to stretch his legs - That's huge in my book these days when I stay at hotels/resorts.

There's also 2-3 wineries walking distance near by, so technically you can just walk around and do wine tasting & not have to hire a car service. We didn't do that though, because it was like 100 degrees & I was gonna walk in that heat, but when the weather is cooler it's definitely a cool feature for the location.

Will definitely come back for another long weekend!

We went to Temecula to celebrate our anniversary. We had never been to the area before, and after some online research, South Coast Winery Resort & Spa seemed like the best choice for location and value. The resort did not disappoint. Check-in was friendly and easy (and included a nice complimentary bottle of wine), our room was large, clean, and quiet with a nice view of the vineyard, and the pool area was appealing and relaxing. The resort's central location among all the wineries made our self-guided wine tasting tour very easy, and it's only about a 15 minute drive to Old Town Temecula, where there are plenty of great restaurants. We did not experience the resort's restaurant or spa, as we wanted to soak in as much of the area as possible during our short stay.

We stayed in a villa just down from the pool. Very comfortable accommodations as noted on the website. Enjoyed having coffee or beverages on the patio with the vineyard right next to it. Imagine the suites are like staying in a hotel.
