My fiance and I stayed at one of the Lodge one-bedrooms, located at the top of the hill in the back. The room itself needed some attention. The decor was rather drab and uninviting - no frills. Also please note, there is no air conditioning, which seems to be the case at many hotels in Tahoe, so beware when visiting in warmer months. There is a ceiling fan, however, and the front desk did offer to lend us another stand-up fan, if we wanted. The bed was decent, though the sheets were not the softest. The room was clean, though, and while my fiance and I did not get to explore the grounds, they seemed to have a lot to offer. Hiking trails, a pool, patio cafe, etc. I'm not sure if I would stay here again. I would probably check out another hotel, as I was hoping for something a little nicer. It seems to be a good place if you are traveling with a family (because of the larger, multi-room lodging options, and also because of the activity amenities), but not (at least in my experience) the best place for couples or a romantic getaway. Perhaps if I stayed again, I would request to stay in the main building, or in a nicer room. **I might also add that I had the opportunity to speak to the GM who ensured me that efforts are being made to improve the quality of stay, including upgrades to the rooms. For his follow-up and requests for guest feedback, I would give the customer service a high rating. It seems they are very interested in guest feedback, which is a huge plus in my book.

I enjoyed my stay at the Granlibakken resort. The property is in a wooded setting with lots of activities both onsite and close by. The resort staff and accommodations were top notch. My room was clean and well appointed, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was modern and had a large shower. The food at the Granlibakken patio grill was excellent, I had breakfast and dinner there several times during my stay. I found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. It was quiet and relaxing at the resort during the evenings and provided for a good place to unwind after day out in the woods. I’m from New England and I plan to stay here again next time I travel out west to go skiing.

We had reservations elsewhere that fell through, so they called and found the 5 rooms we needed at Granlibakken! It was comfortable, quiet, and the restaurant was really good. We were a party of 9, we had 3 breakfasts and one dinner on-site that was enjoyable to all! The new restaurant manager, Yvette, is a sweetheart! Sawyer at the desk did a great job at checking us in. Lukas made our dinner visit fun, along with his sidekick, George! Santi was a pleasure to see at our breakfasts, and Max was another fine worker at the check-in desk. We look forward to returning to the Granlibakken!! Sincerely, Diana and Lavern Lee

Very rustic old feel to Granlibakken. Bed was comfortable, lots of pillows. Hard to navigate at night on the property. The signs are not well lite to know which street to find your cabin. I did not seen on any website that there are only stairs to all cabins. I requested easy accessibility for an 86 year old and had to climb stairs a lot.

We visited for three midweek nights in July 2021. Since we planned on doing activities away from hotel, we did not need a "resort or spa" experience, but just a a place to sleep. We only had about a month leadtime, so finding an affordable hotel in west Tahoe in July was hard. Our "standard" room was $200+ a night for midweek. The weather was warm, but not hot-probably 80ish most days, with smoke from several large wildfires nearby coming and going. Apparently all/most rooms do NOT have AC? Our room was in Bearclaw building, which looks to be 3 stories with no elevator at 7,000 feet (huff puff) and has what they they consider 2-room suites that share a closable vestibule. One room of the pair was ours and was a standard room. The other room of the pair looks to have a kitchenette, fireplace, couch, queen/king bed and balcony. Our room was about as small as a 2-queen room can be. You enter from the side and have tiny closet, fridge and micro on the back wall. The bathroom has just enough floor space for the door to swing in and not hit toilet, and standard tub shower and counter sink. The two queen beds are up against their side walls, and there is just enough space to walk to the window with a chair, dresser and desk. If there were two of us it would be fine, but there were four! BUT the main complaint is that the room was so warm. Third floor! No AC at a high-end resort that has huge summer market??? Motel 6 has an AC! The ceiling was vaulted and did have ceiling fan and the closet contained a floor fan. We used both but they only dried our eyes with the dry hot air rather than cool us. We spent 3 night sweating away! The decor was actually quite nice, but the bathroom feels like it was last updated in the late 1990s with tile counter and wood trim that was in need of recaulking. The hardwood floors were nice and the beds felt clean and were comfortable. Overall, the between-guest cleaning looks adequate but not super. The outlets were behind the beds, and both lamps were unplugged when we arrived so I had to stand on my head to get to the plug and beat back the dust bunnies and candy wrappers behind the nightstand! And the only other light was a 1980s track fixture in the vaulted ceiling that had no dimmer and 5000 lumen floodlamps that provided enough light to perform surgery on each bed. We left our window open for air flow, but I noticed that our ceiling light was so bright it cast shadows on the parking lot below! The hotel complex is a maze of roads, tight parking and buildings all over a steep hill. The "lobby" is basically a desk situated 2 floors up from the main entrance and 2 floors down from the back entrance. It is VERY confusing to find the lobby. I can only imagine trying to find it at night in winter, let alone in daytime in summer. Huge fail here! We did not eat at the restaurant, but the menu and ambience looked nice. The prices are high, but all over they are high. Overall, the idea of the place is romantic and setting fine, but execution was really lacking. I'd think twice about going back in warm weather, and would not go back for affordable lodging.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate the feedback and will look into any issues mentioned. Most properties do not have AC in Tahoe due to the summer months (for the most part) being quite mild. There are fans available for guests during this time. We do hope to see you again soon; the fall months are a wonderful time to visit!
