In our 97th year, Tamarack Lodge offers 21 rooms and cabins at pleasantly affordable prices. On nearly four acres of land one mile east of Tahoe City, we are at the edge of Burton Creek State Park, and are near everything you want to see in North Tahoe. There is also plenty to do right here on our own property. Families and groups love it here, and we are pet friendly too. Our "Poker Rooms" and cabins are genuinely "Old Tahoe". The cabins have full kitchen and are great for a weekend or a week. Our King and Double Queen rooms are spacious and comfortable. All rooms have microwave ovens and refrigerators; many have kitchens. Bring your boat! We have plenty of parking and boat launching is just 60 seconds away. Bring your bike and boots too. Mountain and road trails leave from here. We're 15 minutes from downhill skiing, or head out the back door with your nordic skis or snowshoes. We have been family owned since 1927, and are committed to treating you well.

You can't see the Tamarack Lodge from the street, only the sign. Which means you can't see the street from it. So, it's like being in the middle of the woods. Yet, within minutes from shops and restaurants. We stayed in one of the rooms in the motel-like part of the lodge. Decor was impeccably "cabin in the woods" style, from wood slab table and shelves to rustic lamps to the shower curtain. The room could use a few more or better situated power outlets and the pillows could use more fluff, but what little was lacking was more than compensated by wonderful, personal service. Gerard (I hope I spelled his name right) called us because we were arriving quite late and greeted us when we finally made it to show us the way. And then on our second night we bought soup, forgetting that we didn't have anything to warm it up in and eat from. I called him to ask if by any chance he happened to have any bowls, and he brought us two brand new bowls and even a kitchen towel. Thank you, Gerard!

As my family can attest, I am one of those "been there, done that" people. There is such a lot of beautiful world to experience & explore, & never enough time. But this historic, continually updated, comfortable, clean & friendly inn is an affordable base for all of the joy the Lake Tahoe area offers. So I should keep it a secret. But the amazing heir & innkeeper, along w/his lovely wife & family, deserves to keep on succeeding. Fully equipped, modern kitchens are almost necessary in this time of Covid. Spotless cleanliness even more so. ALL of Tanarack's Lodge rooms & cabins sparkle, down to the windows! Their beautiful bear comforters can only be,washed so many times, so have been removed for now. But even the blankets are washed after every guests' stay. (You bundle linens, blankets & towels separately in large canvas bags when leaving.) Gourmet coffee & teas provided. You can read @ the history of this property on Trip Advisor & their web site. Gerard's history is in my review of Oct., 2018. (Just as interesting.) Tamarack Lodge is the essence of the whole Tahoe loop, & just 1 mile S. of Tahoe City -- the center of accessibility to all of its beauty. With Goldilocks bed (not too hard, not too soft), a great rain shower w/plenty of hot water, & a programmable thermostat (quiet heater).
Do not expect AC! You are in the forest, at 6000' + altitude!

+1
This is the place to stay! We were so impressed with how comfortable and clean everything was. Absolutely beautiful hand hewn forest wood used throughout gives a lovely rustic feel to the room.
It was great to find the floors perfectly clean and the carpeting like new with plush padding. The bedding was fresh and comfortable, even the pillows. Shower was great with Canadian made organic toiletries, lots of hot water and not a speck of anything questionable on the tile. Kitchen fully stocked with utensils and good quality pots and pans. And windows on both front and back for cross ventilation.
Enjoyed both the fresh mountain air and the scent from the handcrafted wood in the king room. It's just a few minutes away from the busy town of Tahoe City and the friendly 4th generation owners made us feel welcome.
We really appreciated the reasonable prices for this room and would definitely recommend this for a night or a whole week's stay.

The Tamarack Lodge is a find! It is in a very quiet area which backs up to a State Park and is walking distance to a very quiet beach. I chose the Tamarack Lodge because dog friendly places in Tahoe are not so easy to come by in the summer. The room was spotless and great effort has been made to be sure guests are comfortable and have whatever they may need. We appreciated the excellent communication with everything from reservations to checking in. My husband enjoys mountain biking, and the state park that borders Tamarack Lodge (Burton Creek State Park) had lots of great trails he had not ridden before. This was a great family trip for us! It is also situated just 24 minutes drive from the Tahoe East Shore Trail which is another super fun outing to do as a family and with your dog.

My husband and I arrived late to join family already checked in. The key was easily acquired and we settled into our comfortable bed for an excellent night’s sleep. Even though Tamarack is close to the highway our room 23 was very quiet. The hot water was instantly available for our morning showers and we enjoyed our coffee while taking in the forest view. A highlight was the evening fire with marshmallows we supplied. Did not have time for ping pong but instead walked the path into Tahoe City for window shopping and lake views. Previously we stayed in one of the darling knotty pine poker rooms but none were available this trip. Anything you need, just ask and the owners will try to accommodate you. We love our visits to Tahoe and Tamarack Lodge.

I hesitate to tell everyone about this hidden gem. This place is packed with style. If you are looking for somewhere that is affordable and not just the cookie-cutter plastic style that everyone else has set up in a hotel, look no further than the Tamarack Lodge. We stayed in a standard double queen room and it was so well set up. There is a kitchen area in the room that makes coffee & breakfast (or more) super accessible. The beds were amazingly comfortable - mattress & sheets! But the feature that really does it for me is how tasteful & thoughtful the rooms are done. From the artwork to the shower, I felt like the Tamarack Lodge needed to be featured in a style magazine of well-done smaller hotels. You won't be disappointed.

Nestled away a mile or so from the bustle of Tahoe City and with the Burton Creek State Park as it's backyard, sits Tamarack Lodge. We were fortunate enough to stay in well appointed cabin #19 awaking to the morning sun on our porch, cup of fresh coffee in hand, feet up on the railing. Complete with full kitchen, comfortable bedding & plenty of room for the dogs.
In a word, idyllic. Family owned, proprietor Gerard, made for a safe environment even before our arrival giving options to collect our keys, etc due to the COVID 19 situation. Our cabin seemed extra clean & prepped for guests. Close to the Lake, great hiking trails right behind the lodge [you might even site a mother bear & two cubs], an ageless Lake Tahoe dream like quality.
Need I say more!? Book it Dano!

What a lovely time we had at the Tamarack Lodge in Tahoe City! The Lodge Cabin was the perfect accommodation for our family of 5. The room was equipped with everything we needed. Gerard, the manager, helped us with planning our activities, providing us with maps, suggestions, and even calling tourist attractions to find out prices and availability. He also brought over a barbeque for us to use at our cabin. It's the perfect location as there's trails behind the property to hike or mountain bike. Crossing the street is a paved path where we were able to walk to the lake and Tahoe City. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend Tamarack Lodge to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean, and affordable place to stay. We will definitely be back!

Great price and great location near Tahoe City. Due to the Mosquito fire air quality and conditions weren't ideal, but because of cancellations we were upgraded from a Poker Room to the Sweet Cabin 16! It was such a cozy/cute little cabin with a modern kitchen and bath, and a private porch with a beautiful lacquered pine table. Once you enter the parking lot, the entire property is surrounded by trees and we saw a few adorable tiny ground squirrels! It was a bummer we were only there for one night because air conditions improved significantly in the afternoon after we checked out. It really just depends on which way the winds blow. I wish we'd been able to stay another night! By the time we left Emerald Bay around 2:30pm Monday the air was clear and we saw blue skies. There was even a drizzle of rain as we headed out. While it was disappointing that the fire was affecting the visibility and air quality, there was no imminent threat of evacuation, and all the roads in and out of Tahoe were open. Next time we're in Tahoe we will definitely stay at Tamarack Lodge again!

We have stayed in the Tamarack Lodge many times, and we love coming back! This time, we stayed in the newly renovated Sweet Cabin Sixteen; it was great having our own fully appointed kitchen and cozy living space. The owners of the Tamarack Lodge are kind and helpful. Tamarack Lodge's location is perfect; it's less than 1 mile from downtown Tahoe City with an easily accessible walking/biking path right across the street. Plus, Tamarack Lodge borders the beautiful Burton Creek State Park, so hiking opportunities are just a couple steps away. We highly recommend staying at this lovely lodge.

Thanks Janine for coming to stay with us again, and for writing this review. Cabin Sixteen certainly has become a favorite, and we are glad you enjoyed being there. Keep in mind that the same craftsman (Martin of O’Gorman Timberwork) has now renovated seven of our rooms and will be starting an eighth soon. Several have kitchens. They all look and feel great. We look forward to your next visit. Thanks again. Sincerely, Gerard Fenech Lodge Manager

Both N. Tahoe and S. Tahoe are worth a visit. The South is more commercialized with large casinos. N. Tahoe is a little less commercial. I like both...and there are pluses and minuses to both. I like to stay a couple days in S Tahoe in a hotel...and a couple days in the North in a cabin or lodge.
