This house oozes history and charm, yet is relaxed and welcoming. Many extras are thoughtfully provided for guests' comfort including afternoon tea with cake, and tea and coffee are available at any time, along with a fridge for guests' use. There's plenty of space both inside and outside in which to relax and the pool was very welcome in late... More

Very well preserved 19th century house, the place is lovely, located in a very quiet area, the rooms are spacious and it´s very clean. I loved staying there, my only observation would be that if you don`t like eggs (like me), you should really do not expect a great breakfast.

Beautiful house. Great location. We arrived to a funeral (minus the dead person) being held in the living room. Very awkward and uncomfortable. The mourners hung around for several hours on the patio, in the living room, next to the tea that was offered to us when we arrived. We stayed in Victoria's room. Tiny but beautiful. There was a... Running a great B&B requires: 1.) A unique and iconic property; 2.) Classy or extremely interesting decor; 3.) Great ambience; 4.) Competent, attentive and cordial innkeepers and staff; 5.) Cleanliness; 6.) Constant Maintenance; 7.) Guest rooms as beautiful and lobbies and hallways; 8.) Sturdy, comfortable beds and bedding; 9.) Great, creative breakfasts; 10.) A great locale. This has it all.... More

Were I to base this review solely on the room we were given, my rating would be Poor. And I would be surprised that the place appeared in the TripAdvisor and Karen Brown websites, and others. Had the reader stayed two nights in Victoria's Room as we did in mid-July, 2016, you would have found the following: shades that were... More

The Bissell House allowed me to dip into my childhood at my Grandma's house in Pacific Beach. How grateful I am that the early 1900's of California has been captured in this lovely place. From the welcoming spacious front porch, the chattering wild parrots in the canopy of trees to the bedrooms and sittings room of the big house itself... More

My wife and I have visited our son in LA many times and we have stayed at the Residence Inn and Marriott Courtyards of the world many times. This was our first ever B&B experience and I guess we are now spoiled for life. The Hoyman Family were the very best of hosts and the other guests all enjoyed each... More

Airconditioning, private bath, free wi-fi, free parking, Cable TV, quiet, backyard pool, comfortable beds with pillow selection and wonderful historic ambiance close to restaurants in a safe neighborhood not too far from a major highway. Exactly what I look for when traveling alone for business in LA area.

Second time visiting the Bissell House. The rooms are very nice, comfortable and with little extra luxuries s to make you feel at home. Beautiful grounds, great location off of a busy Orange Grove Ave but situated so that it is quiet at bedtime. Great breakfast, organic coffee and lots of teas. Evening snacks. Great to lay my head on... More

My husband and I recently spent a week at the Bissell house while visiting our daughter and son-in-law who live in the area. We found the house comfortable and welcoming with an aura of stepping back in time or visiting an older relative. The neighborhood around the house is very nice and we enjoyed walking in the area. The grounds... More
