I had the loveliest solo staycation at the Bissell House. From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt welcome, safe, and truly at a home! Exploring the beautiful grounds, reading in the library, and relaxing by the pool were all made even better by the plentiful complimentary tea, coffee, and snacks. I felt transported to a storybook world in the midst of the beautiful vintage furnishings of this historic place. The breakfast available every morning is a delicious, light yet satisfying quiche, croissant, and fruit with fresh squeezed orange juice. I almost didn't feel the need to try out other breakfast spots nearby (and there are lot of great ones in Pasadena)! I had the privilege of staying in the Anna Bissell room, spacious yet cozy with the prettiest view. The bed is probably the most comfortable I've slept in outside of my own home. Also, despite there being a terrible heat wave this weekend, the individual AC in each room as well as downstairs kept the place so comfortable. I actually felt so sad to leave this place and will find every excuse to return!

Property's Favorite Review
Cannot say enough good things about this charming property and the gracious innkeepers who run it. Sublimely relaxing; upscale and cozy at the same time. Immaculately maintained historic site full of lovely antiques, excellent reading materials, and whimsical details. The breakfast was exceptional: a perfectly cooked frittata, fresh baked crispy/flakey croissant, orange juice squeezed from oranges grown on the grounds. Fragrance of jasmine encircles the numerous patios and old-world vibes abound for a fairytale-worthy experience. Highly recommend …

We stayed at the Bissel House for two nights in May 2022 on a multi-stop road trip. Bissel House was the best stay of our vacation. The house was comfortable with lots of amenities and common areas for relaxing in a great neighborhood. We liked that the house had lots of common areas (pool area, porch, living room, office nook), and spent both afternoons reading on the front porch. The neighborhood was walkable and interesting; there's several Greene and Greene craftsman mansions a few blocks away, and multiple interesting restaurants in South Pasadena was about a 15 minute walk away. We liked the breakfast and socializing with other guests. We had the Prince Albert room on the second floor; the room still has its Victorian trim and design, and had plenty of space for us and our bags and room to hang out. The tub had minor issues we were warned about (need to use shutoff so it wouldn't drip) that wasn't too much trouble. The location in South Pasadena also was easy to reach from 5/210, and quick access to the 110 made it easy for us to get to and from downtown LA for sightseeing. Orange Grove Ave. and Columbia Street got some fast traffic, but it quieted down in evenings. We'd definitely stay again and would recommend it to anyone who wants a stay in a relaxing B&B in a quieter and interesting neighborhood.

We enjoyed our stay at the Bissell house. Loved the grounds, pool and the Victorian style house. Breakfast was also yummy. The room we stayed in was roomy. Loved the claw tub and bathroom fixtures. I liked the free whiskey in the decanter.

I had considered staying at a chain, but when I found the Bissell House B&B I knew it was perfect for our weekend filled with history. Yes, it’s that Bissell of sweeper fame. There’s easy (but tight) parking on site and close by on the street. The no touch check-in with details via text worked flawlessly. I picked Victoria’s Room on the second floor due to great reviews, its pool view (vs. street), and sun porch with lots of windows, which made it feel larger than it was. They packed a queen bed, chair with footstool, desk, wingback chair, and luggage rack into the former laundry room. There’s not a lot of space, but it was fine for a short stay. We spent an hour or so checking out the dining room, the parlor (with piano), the library, and the old fashioned shaded front porch with cushioned sofas and chairs, although there is a bit of traffic noise. There are also places to sit and relax in the library or outdoors in sun or shade by the pool. It’s been a B&B for many years so they’ve anticipated anything you might want—downstairs restroom with pool towels, wine for sale, tea and coffee anytime, and more. It’s a historic property so there is no elevator, and we could hear late arrivals walking on the third floor above us. In the dining room, we could have had cereal and other make-it-yourself items, but our Gamble House tour a few minutes away started at 10, so we joined the only other couple staying at the B&B for a hearty hot breakfast with eggs, yogurt, fruit and more. There is one large table and a smaller table for 4. They serve a local coffee or you can make cappuccino. Refrigerators are available if you want to bring your own white wine or food. After an evening at the theatre, my husband had a nightcap from the decanter in the parlor, and I took a yummy chocolate chip cookie. Bissell House B&B is an easy 10-20 minute drive from anywhere in Pasadena and was a perfect location for our visits to the Huntington Library and Museum, Gamble House, Pasadena History Museum, and the Norton Simon Museum.

We loved Bissell House from a stay awhile ago, and it has gotten even better. The house is well loved and cared for. Everywhere you look there is something intriguing. Will and Veronica are congenial hosts who really want your stay to be fun and comfortable. Check in is easy, with a text letting you know the code to the front door and where your room is located. WI-FI is good and you can connect by scanning a code. I loved the two lounges with comfortable seating so you can read or talk downstairs. Tea and coffee are available anytime. There is a small ice maker downstairs which I used every night. I’ve always wanted a front porch, and theirs is so comfortable. Breakfast is at 9:00 and super tasty. Great coffee. There is an unheated pool in the back which must be great in the summer. We love to walk and it was wonderful to be walking distance to so many nice restaurants. We stayed in the Prince Albert room on the second floor. The bed was very comfortable (the carved headboard was gorgeous), the room full of Victorian touches, and for those who can’t go without TV there was a nice one there. You could easily regulate the room temperature. The bathroom was a good size, with an old fashioned claw foot tub/shower. Will is eager to continue making improvements to the inn to make your stay even better. I recommend Bissell House to anyone, assuming you can deal with a flight of stairs in this wonderful old house!

I arrived at the Bissell House with the expectation that I would be able to"relax". And "relax" I did...I was transformed. The home's interior is an homage to the Victorian era and a true antique. I stayed in the Rose room, the smallest of all the guest rooms, it had a very comfortable queen sized bed and an arm chair that is worthy of disappearing into. The bathroom is the real deal...actual Victorian sink and shower fixtures. The staff were genuinely kind and eager to make my stay as wonderful as possible They serve an excellent gourmet breakfast! I love the gardens, patio and pool.

A tidy, quaint, and very comfortable B&B in a great South Pasadena location. Had a wonderful weekend stay during which I enjoyed the charming sitting rooms and two delicious breakfasts. Really nice touches all around the property with friendly, but unobtrusive proprietors. Utterly delightful experience. Will absolutely be staying again!

Had a great stay at Bissel House. Was traveling to Riverside County to help my in-laws move and needed a stopover. So glad I picked this place! Hosts have perfected contact-free check-in while still being readily available to answer questions and provide recommendations for dinner, etc. My time with them was a much needed respite before heading into a weekend of hard work.
