The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa enjoys acclaim for its historical charm and convenient location, with many travelers finding it an ideal base for exploring Sonoma's vineyards and attractions. We had an incredible experience at the Fairmont Sonoma. We were immediately greeted by friendly and helpful staff on arrival. Food options were great within the hotel. Get the avocado toast for breakfast- best I've ever had. Proximity to vineyards and restaurants was a big plus. Recommend checking out their very unique spa with thermal baths. Highly recommend this place and hope to be back here again.

Having stayed in several other Fairmont properties, I have to say this property is not up to Fairmont standards, especially for the prices they charge. First, this property is in the middle of a questionable suburban neighborhood which made us nervous in the evenings. While parking is free, it fills up quick especially on the weekends and then you are out of luck as the parking lot is tiny. Whatever "COVID sanitizer" is being used makes the whole hotel smell like someone sprayed RAID cockroach killer everywhere and its even worse in the rooms that are kept closed for 48 hours with no ventilation. There is a $39 amenity fee which covers the "free" parking, the wifi (which most hotels do not charge for anyway) and not very pleasant bottle of wine. There are no water bottles, complimentary or for purchase in the room which is very strange for a supposed high end hotel. The pools had a limit and unless you came at 9am to sign up for the adult pools (they allow 40 ppl) you were out of luck as far as pools go. The spa manager Jane was very rude and insisted on giving us a lecture about the appropriateness of our masks (which we were going to take off as soon as we sat down anyway). Masks which she did not ask to see the inside of and made assumptions about, masks which we had been wearing everywhere including around the hotel and no one had found issue with. That totally ruined our spa time the first day. The food off the "Californo" food truck was not edible at all with astronomical pricing. The breakfast restaurant in the hotel had good food but the ordering was completely disorganized and took us 3 trips to the coffee bar to get the coffee we had ordered. The only positive thing that saved the trip were the very lovely ladies at the spa, Jessica and someone else, who went out of their way to make it a good experience and were super sweet and even got me in last minute for a massage. I was extremely embarrassed in front of my friend to whom I had been singing praises about the Fairmont hotels. This hotel charges over $300/nt plus the ridiculous amenity fee but does not provide even basic housekeeping. Considering that they are providing almost no services due to COVID one would think that they would compensate with other extras for the guests or make the prices on par for the services they provide.Save yourself and stay somewhere else!

Dear Katerina M, Thank you for taking the time to write and post this review regarding your experiences and observations while recently staying with us here at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. First of all I would like to sincerely and honestly apologize for the service breakdowns and short comings you experienced, and I do hope you were able to share some of these while with us as unfortunately I haven't been able to locate your reservation, therefore please don't hesitate to personally reach out to myself as that will enable me to pin point the exact room and area of the resort you stayed in regarding your smell concern. Not to make any excuses for your poor expirnces, however I would like to reassure you the cleaning and sanitizing products we utilize throughout the resort are from industry leading Ecolab and are all EPA registered disinfecting chemicals that are proven effective in preventing the transmission of all viruses and pathogens, including COVID-19. In addition, I'm also extremely apologetic regarding how we communicated the mask wearing policy, however I was extremely pleased to understand that Jessica made "it a good experience and were super sweet and even got me (you) in last minute for a massage." as this is the style of personalized service and guest engagement that we support & encourage while striving to provide consistently throughout the resort. As a result I will be personally thanking and recognizing Jessica for looking after you. Also, I'm =certainly looking forward to connecting with you as I will send you a direct message through TripAdvisor as it's my desire and wish to understand some more about our service breakdowns and shortfalls especially regarding your breakfast experience and the lack of communication regarding the inclusions of our resort experience fee. Yours sincerely and apologies once more. Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

We had a great trip, and stayed in the suites (which are nice b/c the entrance is outdoors and the buildings are broken up into small stand alone structures, so there aren't a lot of rooms bunched together). There is also a big french door so you can get a lot of breeze if you want it. Jacuzzi in the middle of the room (while weird from a placement standpoint) was great for the kids baths.
The single heated pool was regulated so not too many people, the food was great. We had plenty of space outdoors to roast marshmallows.
Protip: bring your own smores kit because the $24 one they sell, while nice, makes about 4-5 smores. It does come with bacon though, so it's fancier than the average kit.
They also mentioned they left 2 days between guests in the same room which made me feel a bit better.

Dear cmutiff, On behalf of myself and the entire team here at Fairmont Sonoma Mission inn & Spa I would first of all like to say thank you so much for selecting our resort as the place to experience when your recent travels included Sonoma & Wine Country. In addition, thank you too for taking the time to post this wonderful 5 Star TripAdvisor review regarding your observations and experiences. It was wonderful to read how much your enjoyed a "great trip" and how you enjoyed your suite accommodations with the outdoor entrance, spread out nature of our resort, along with the French doors for breeze and the jet tub too, which your children seemed to love (so do my children also). Thank you also for highlighting how we rest each room for 48 hours between guests, as this is one of many protocols that we have implemented to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our guests and colleagues alike. Looking forward to having the opportunity to welcome you and the family back soon for another great stay and for some more great memories of S'mores out at our fire pits. Yours sincerely and thank you once again, Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

We stayed in this hotel exactly one year ago, around New Year and we loved it so much we decided to go back, and for longer to enjoy the facilities more. However, we were slightly disappointed.
at reception, on checking in we had an inordinate wait. I’m really not sure why some people take so long to check in and the staff seemed to be making no effort to speed things up. But that’s maybe not a staff issue, but beware of slow service at reception. When we did check in we were provided with no information on the spa (cost, availability etc) or the resort fee (although having previously stayed we were aware there was a fee, but not really sure what for. Can they not just add it to the room rate?).
Our room had a faulty fire alarm. The fire alarm was activated one night at 2350h but we were not sure what it was. On checking in the building stair it was noted it was in fact a fire alarm, but no alarm amongst guests or staff. No evacuation was effected and the alarm was deactivated soon after. On reporting this to reception the following day they didn’t even know there had been an alarm!
One evening we dined in the bar. On our previous visit we noted some tasty vegetarian options, but they had all gone. We asked for a dish advertised on the room service menu and this was going to be fine, but they totally messed up our order, brought the wrong food and also wrongly billed. Furthermore, a beer was ordered at the outset and this didn’t arrive until AFTER the food (wrong food!). Excuse was it was busy at the bar! It wasn’t, but there was sport being broadcast on the big screens which is not becoming of a 5 star hotel. Fairmont, please sort this out, you should be serving vegetarian food in 2020 and at least make sure the orders are correct. And try not to be encouraging boozy sports in the bar restaurant. People are there to relax and unwind, not be overcome by loud individuals in the bar at mealtimes.
The spa was lovely, as we remembered, but was very busy and we couldn’t use some of the pools because they were full. We also noted there was certain individuals, and couples, who commandeered the pools and spas and didn’t move a muscle in the hour or so we were in. There must be some rule or order raised to ensure all patrons have equal chance to enjoy the facilities.
Plus points were plenty, however. The room was fabulous and both the swimming pool and grounds lovely. Valet staff were very helpful and friendly.
If you intend to stay here expect 5 star prices and property to match, but not so 5 star service at all times.

We certainly dropped the ball in not providing information about the spa or clearly sharing all the fantastic benefits you receive from the resort experience fee. It had been five months since my last stay in a hotel, and I was intrigued as to how much of the former-pleasure of the hotel experience might be retained. This was a same-day decision to escape the city and go in search of a pool and some sunshine, and to that end, the Fairmont delivered.

Overall, a positive experience and possibly something to return to in future. The property is set on an impressive section and has managed the appropriate balance of retained charm + modernity that many older properties struggle with.

What wasn't perfect? The room was very small. At upwards of $400 a night and well out of the city, I expected a little more space to lounge in the room. The "King" room didn't offer any view, which might have alleviated the mildly claustrophobic vibe that COVID + close quarters creates. The comp bottle of wine in the room helped, however, and the bed + pillows were very comfortable.

Service all around was friendly. Check in was painstakingly slow. Dining was fine, if not overpriced. The food truck advertised availability for brunch, but wasn't open when we stopped by at 11am.

The pool was overcrowded with children (only one of the two pools is open at present), but quietened down perfectly after 5pm. And it is nice and warm.

It was nice to see this location taking every available precaution to limit possible COVID transmission. That could not be faulted. More plus points for complimentary parking.

Is it luxurious to eat out of plastic boxes, flinch whenever someone comes too close, and try to avoid being inside for more than a brief moment? No. But if you want to dip your toes in something that reminds you of the old days, this is worth a shot.

Dear tropicalkiwi, On behalf of myself and the entire team here at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, we certainly do thank you for being a return loyal guest and thank you too for making a last minute decision to stay with us this past weekend. In addition, thank you too for taking the time to share with us your experiences and observations during this return stay and during such unprecedent times as I was extremely pleased to read how it was "Overall, a positive experience and possibly something to return to in future. " as we are certainly looking forward to be welcoming you back soon. As part of our protocols, we are calling all guest 3 days prior to arrival, along with sending a email the day prior to arrival, to outline the new situation with what services and amenities have been suspended due to State and County Orders, i.e. Spa, Fitness and in restaurant Dining, and what we have suspended with us acting with the utmost of caution, i.e. Valet Parking, Shuttle Service into town and daily housekeeping & evening turn down service, (which is now upon request and while guests aren't in their rooms or suites). Therefore, I'm sorry we missed this opportunity to connect with you prior to arrival, as we are now reviewing how we can better flag same day reservations to ensure we share all our protocols. With that said, it was wonderful to read you noticed " this location taking every available precaution to limit possible COVID transmission. That could not be faulted." as healthy and safety of our guests and colleagues is certainly our # 1 priority. Thank you once again and looking forward to be welcoming you back soon so that you can once again "dip your toes in something that reminds you of the old days,". Yours sincerely, Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

My friends and I enjoyed a long weekend at The Fairmont Sonoma Missin Inn & Spa. As we arrived, we were greeted by JoAnn and told us about the complimentary wine tasting they were hosting on the front lawn. As we proceeded to check-in, we noticed all the safety precautions in place for COVID, there were temperature checks at the entrance, lots of hand sanitizer stations, acrylic glass dividers between the front desk employees and the guests. As we walked through the peaceful and quiet property, the firepit tables added a nice ambiance for our walk to the guest rooms. The fragrance of fresh rosemary in the gardens immediately put us at relaxation vacation mode. The rooms were well equipped with a fireplace, a large flat-screen TV, and great quality toiletries. The next day we explored some wonderful wineries that JoAnn had recommended and enjoyed a nice dinner. We reserved a cabana at the spa and put on the oversized spa robes that immediately made us feel pampered. The Cabanas were tastefully decorated with our own TV, Towels, and had a wonderful server who promptly brought us menus. The menu selection was great, the food presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious. The warm thermal pools were so yummy it made it hard to get out of the pool. The friendly staff and the enjoyment of the pool truly made us feel completely relaxed and again all safety precautions were being taken given us a sense of normality in these pandemic times. This was just what we needed. I highly recommend your stay at Fairmont Sonoma Mission & Spa. They really know how to take care of their guest and make you feel welcomed.

My wife, son and I originally booked our weekend getaway as part of our Mommy Blog Series. Upon arriving we quickly realized we could not do the hotel justice by critiquing it as the hotel was at less than half staff capacity and everyone seemed to be doing their best to accommodate guests.
First and Foremost the staff was excellent. An extra special shout out to Pierre who was the face of The Fairmont upon entry. The staff is excellent.
We were upgraded to a Mission suite which was very nice, given chocolates and a smores kit which was fun addition and generous. The hotel grounds are beautiful and set up for socializing, romance, family gatherings. There are fire pits with outdoor lounging spaces throughout the front of the hotel grounds. It could benefit from a good power washing and a bit more upkeep on the grounds but again considering the circumstances of working with a Covid lifestyle it was understandable. Our room was large, cozy and had a nice outdoor patio. The extras included a log fireplace, a kit with masks, gloves, extras were a generous touch. Our cocktails were very good at the bar but the pricing a bit steep per drink. $19. Our dinner at the restaurant was unfortunately the most unmemorable meal and we would not go back with so many other choices and great chefs in the area. Equally our room service for breakfast was not very impressive considering the expectations of all the great reviews for breakfast. The pool was lovely, heated and towels were abundant. There was a bar in the pool area which was convenient, friendly and accommodating. Mission Sonoma Inn allows children but it is not set up as a kid-friendly hotel beyond the pool. The main lobby is a space meant for socializing and it was utilized as such with the diverse clientele. A bonus was the great artwork on the walls that is for sale in the lobby area. It's worth a quick getaway if you can score a great deal!

Dear mommiedo, Thank you for recently staying at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa with your wife and son as it was great having the chance opportunity to meet the 3 of you when you were enjoying coffee out by the firepit, and then later enjoying some smores. Plus thank you to for taking the time to highlighting the "excellent' service you received from the team, along with "the extra special shout out to Pierre". I will not only be personally recognizing Pierre, and thanking him for lookin after the 3 of you, I will certainly be sharing your very nice and supportive comments with the entire team. In addition, I'm extremely pleased you enjoyed the Mission Suite with the log burning fireplace. However, with that said, I do want to apologize for the dinner experience, along with the breakfast delivery, as these disappointments are certainly not indicative of what we are striving for, and I will certainly be reviewing with the team these low points of your stay to ensure we prevent similar in the future Looking forward to having the opportunity to welcome the 3 of you back soon and thank you and for the extremely nice complements regarding the team as its greatly appreciated. Yours sincerely, and thank you once again. Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

I have stayed at many Fairmont Hotels and have generally been very happy with my stays. Unfortunately this stay has been the only exception so far. My family and I stayed here in September for four nights in a Vineyard Suite. First of all, the hotels grounds are expansive and very nice and generally well maintained. It is very walkable and great for our family dog. We appreciate that the hotel is very dog friendly. Also, the food truck at the front in the evening with live music during the weekend was magical next to the abundant outdoor seats and fire pits. The room and large bathroom with a two person jacuzzi tub was great, comfortable and relaxing. Also, we enjoyed the peaceful patio with nice outdoor seating.

Unfortunately, we were in one of the many buildings that are separate from the main hotel building. The hallways are not enclosed so during the hot weather, there were literally thousands of flies and moths covering the walls and ceilings of the hallways to shelter from the heat. When ever we went in and out of our room, we had to do so quickly and get the door closed before many of the flies and moths get inside. I literally killed over 20 flies in our room once. Then, we found out that our bedding was all down bedding and pillows. They were comfortable but my son is allergic to down and he got very congested and had trouble breathing through his nose. It is on me for not specifying a down free room, but when I walked over to the front desk to get help, no attendant was there in the evening at around 10pm. I went back to my room and called the hotel and it took a lots of rings before someone picked up. I asked them to bring us down free bedding, it took a long time for the housekeeper to come and they brought more down pillows! It was already later at night by then and my son had to sleep in the bathroom to avoid the down. Then I asked for room keeping to come the next day in the morning and use down free bedding and remove the ones with down. We left for activities in the morning and when we got back, no room service was provided. They eventually came in the afternoon while we were resting and my son still had to deal with some remaining down in the room. We got rid of most of them by giving it to room service the night before but now we hardly have any bedding. We had to have room service come back another time because we needed rest from a full morning of activities. It would have been nice if they came when I asked them to in the morning while we were gone. Also, the pool had long lines because of COVID number restrictions and the dining also had relatively long lines likely because of COVID restrictions that left limited seating. I understand that COVID played a role in the limitations of the hotel staff, but there were too many mistakes for a decent review.

The hotel was beautiful and has potential to be great. I love all of the mature landscaping and towering trees on the grounds. The overall experience was lacking though and I will have to think hard if I were to consider staying here again.

I was very pleased to read how much you enjoyed your suite, the grounds and the ambiance of the CaliForno, Street Eats with the live music. However, more importantly I would like to sincerely apologize for the mix up and the service breakdowns with getting the bedding changed out for hypoallergenic, along with our oversights with the timing of housekeeping service. I do hope we will have another opportunity to welcome you back soon as I know that these frustrations you experienced certainly aren't indicative of the fine level of guest experience and personalized service that we are striving for. Yours sincerely, and apologies once more. Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

I was here with a group of friends We chose this hotel because we wanted something nice and we are all used to staying in very nice places. This did not live up to our expectations at all. First, the rooms are ridiculously expensive for a standard room that you would get at any chain hote.
When I arrived there were no or poor signs for check-in and no valets so I waited and didn't know where to go Finally parked in the garage and then found my way to the lobby Check-in was painfully slow. there were only 2 persons working. Three of our rooms did not have heat that worked and it was chilly at night.
We were asked to leave the pool area in the morning even though we were just relaxing, because they were late in cleaning the pool and had to do it then.
The dinners were nice, but the breakfast was not up to standard. Since a few of us didn't want toast they threw the small $20.00 omelet on an empty plate with no garnish
The grounds are nice and they had music one night which was a nice touch.
Three of the group had booked massages, but when we asked if our masseuses were vaccinated, they said they "couldn't tell us." The rules had just been changed to require masking due to the spread of the D-variant so that was rather appalling.
They only clean the rooms every other day.
I usually don't complain and I am usually petty tolerant, but this was a total disappointment for all of us.
Plus 2 of us found incorrect charges on our bills so be sure and check They quickly fixed it, but it shouldn't happen.

We stayed for three nights soon after the resort reopened in July. It was a wonderful time to finally escape from months of confinement and distancing. A few sun-soaked hours at the Fairmont Sonoma’s (relatively small) pool definitely brought back the feel of how life used to before the pandemic. The staff seemed thrilled to be working again and there was a warmth and positivity in the air which enhanced our little Sonoma experience. The Fairmont’s key attraction is the location near central Sonoma with its heavenly eateries and that picturesque town square. But is it as luxurious a resort as advertised? Even with a reduced clientele, the pool seemed crammed with people. Bar drinks were eye poppingly expensive and dinner for a family of four ordering from the limited menu available can easily run you $200. After our first night we moved rooms because there was no hot water in our first room. A better hotel would have arranged bellhop service for us instead of us having to haul bags by ourselves. The most telling moment of the stay was watching guests checking out and seeing their faces lose color upon seeing the final bill. Where does Fairmont fit with the Ritz Carltons, Four Seasons and Park Hyatts? Ultimately the splurge needs to be supported by some strong service and high standards in whatever you do. Hopefully Accor will use this strange time for traveling to examine the Fairmont brand and give it a nice shot in the arm.

Dear Krazban, On behalf of myself and the entire team here at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa thank you for selecting our resort when your family travels included Sonoma & Wine County, and thank you too for taking the time to highlight "The staff seemed thrilled to be working again and there was a warmth and positivity in the air which enhanced our little Sonoma experience". This type of guest experience and feedback is certainly extremely supportive and encouraging during these very unprecedented times, therefore I will certainly be sharing your observations with the team. Plus, I'm pleased to share that Sonoma County Healthy gave us permission a couple of weeks ago to reopen our main Spa pool and our Spa Watsu pool, which we are utilizing as our main adult pool area. With this all said, I would like to sincerely apologize for the disappointments that you experienced with our pricing, as we have actually reduced our prices and simplified our food & beverage menus during these unprecedented time, however I wasn't able to locate you reservation to review your charges to understand more about you observations and disappointments, therefore please don't hesitate to reach out to me here at the Resort as I'm more than happy to review them with you. Plus, my apologies too for the inconvenience of a room move and the lack of a bellman assisting you with your luggage during this process. Looking forward to connecting with you and apologies once more for our oversights with the hot water and resulting room move. Yours sincerely, Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

the gym area is located near the spa. it is an excellent facility that provides a spacious, well-lit, and well-equipped environment for fitness enthusiasts. The inclusion of Peloton bikes, ellipticals, treadmills, weights, a rowing bar, and a bench ensures that there are options for everyone. I particularly appreciated the ample natural lighting in the gym due to the large windows. It creates a refreshing and energizing atmosphere, making it a joy to exercise there. Natural light is known to boost mood and motivation, and it's certainly a significant asset for this gym. hope this helps, i'll try to post photos of the gym.

How strict are the mask mandates at the resort and Spa?
Answer from EJROE
Berkeley, California13 contributions3 helpful votes
As per Sonoma County, mask wearing is still required in all indoor public spaces, unless you are actively eating and drinking, or it’s in an indoor wet area like a locker room and our spa bathhouse. Masks aren’t required to be worn when outside on the resort grounds or at or while in the resort pools. However, if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask while out doors or relaxing around the pools, that’s fine by us too. I trust this is helpful and we are available to answer any questions or thoughts. Regards, Edward Roe General Manager Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa
