I was very worried after reading all the poor reviews, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with our stay. I knew prior checking in that we would not have housekeeping and the hotel was understaffed. This was evident during our stay but I felt the staff was doing their best given the circumstances. Everyone was friendly to us and we did get an upgrade to a cottage which was a nice bonus. Overall, I felt it was a nice stay because we knew what to expect going into it.

Wow, what a great stay! I seriously had my doubts going in, reviews on here, Marriott site and Google really had me second guessing. I’m not sure why because the place is fantastic. We were told prior to arrival that we had been upgraded to a cottage. We arrived at 2:00 (on a Sunday) assuming the room wouldn’t be ready, it wasn’t, so we changed and went out to the pool. My observations Check In - I checked back around 4:00 and they basically let me pick the room/cottage (upstairs or down) and then explained all the amenities… the breakfast plus afternoon drink vouchers. Room - A regular king room with a nice bathroom and shower. We didn’t try the fireplace. The best part was the secluded patio. The cons were only 3 drawers and 10 hangers for our clothes. Pool - we used it a couple times and really enjoyed it. You could order lunch or drinks from the bar (or food truck) and they would bring it to your chair…quickly! There were some kids some days. Never had an issue getting a lounger. The loungers were the thick bed type. Breakfast- never more than a 5 min wait to order and never more than 5 minutes for them to bring the food out. The first 2 days we had tours that we had a pick up time and was concerned about the timing of the orders, but it was never an issue. Extras - There was complimentary coffee in the lobby each morning and tons of complimentary bikes to use whenever, just a great feel to The Lodge…we would go back in a heartbeat!

The restaurant and bar are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Thanks for letting us know when we booked a $500 per night room. Unfriendly check-in was also fun. Spa is not operated by the resort and we found that out when we arrived. We will not be staying here again.

I am thoroughly disappointed in this hotel, and my stay has only just begun. First of all, it is impossible to get ahold of anyone prior to your stay. I called, emailed, even commented and DMed on Instagram with no reply whatsoever. We are here for my mother’s 60th birthday, and I had one simple request: place something celebratory in the room upon our arrival. A bottle of wine, chocolates, a piece of cake, whatever. When I mentioned the issue at checkin and asked the front desk if they could quickly do something, they told me I could buy a bottle of wine in their lobby market. Are you serious??? I can also buy a bottle of wine at the grocery store. This hotel does not know what hospitality is. At nearly $1k/night, I expect more. As for the rooms, they are in desperate need of a renovation. We got a cottage and the size is ok, but the finishes are old and dingy. I also thought I’d treat my mom to a spa service while here. What a joke. Another place that’s impossible to get ahold of. The spa actually did return my call - over 24 hours later. Of course the availability was extremely limited by that point. What was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime has been a major disappointment. I can’t wait to get out of here.

So disappointed. Went there 5 or so years back for a memorable celebration, wanted to treat a good friend to a spa break after hard times. We managed to have a good time “in spite of”, which is not what you look for at that price point. The remodel sucked all the charm out of the place and replaced it with low budget modern banality. Servicable, tacky, ambiance of Hampton Suites. I was not informed that the spa is only open on weekends, and we were there midweek. We were not informed that there is no daily cleaning service, you just call if you need something. (eg, remember to pick up your coffee pods at the lobby.) The bathroom had no towel racks though the shower was good. The beds were comfy. Thank goodness there is an outdoor hot tub by the pool so we weren’t completely spa deprived. It is child friendly. The formerly swank breakfast is now a stark separate order-at-the-counter breakfast restaurant, but the chilaquiles were stellar. The staff is friendly, on the ball, and helpful. Hard to imagine how they managed to pick such a dumpy decor with so much effort. Grout showing all around the baseboard, gaps in the plasterboard covering in front of the sink, I dunno. Hate to criticize, it being hard times, but also hate to see you waste your money unknowingly.

Room Tip: Check for alternatives, it is priced for what it was before the tacky remodel. On the other hand,...
