A must visit! The entire experience is very relaxing and the beds are extremely comfortable! Food was great and Emily was our waitress each morning. She was such a sweet lovely person. We looked forward to seeing her every morning.

Hotel's Favorite
My fiance and I stayed here last weekend and had an incredible time. MacArthur Place was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at; spectacularly modern with updated rooms, a beautiful property, great location close to downtown, incredible food at Layla, and very friendly staff! We felt very safe visiting in the COVID environment, with our room having been thoroughly sanitized and all the staff taking precautions when we interacted with them. The dining at Layla was at an outdoor-ish tent with heat lamps and spaced out tables; we felt very safe eating there (also, the food was wonderful!) The rooms are chic, modern, and even have wonderful tech which makes it feel that much more glamorous (such as touch panels that control all the lights, and a chromecast on the 65" TV). I believe the entire hotel was renovated only a few years ago, and it shows. The outdoor paths are dotted with cozy gas firepits that were wonderful to sit around in the daytime and when it got chilly at night. Lastly, everyone we interacted with was wonderful, and they went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable time, particularly when they found out that we got engaged over the weekend. We will absolutely be coming back for future visits to Sonoma!

This is a difficult review to write, because I understand that everyone is scrambling to re-hire and train staff as things open up. I know MacArthur Place has a reputation for great service, and hopefully they will get back on track. We planned a getaway to celebrate our anniversary. My husband arranged (with great difficulty, after several phone calls) to surprise me with flowers in our room upon arrival. Much to his disappointment, they were not there, so he called the front desk. Never got a call back, but an hour later, someone showed up with some hastily-purchased flowers, not what he’d ordered, but ok. (Later found out the flowers had arrived at the hotel, but the new hire at the valet stand took them to the wrong room, then couldn’t remember where he put them.) We visited the front desk later and noted that no one had called us back; that is when the guy at the desk looked and informed us that we’d been given a $250 credit by way of apology, as well as a refund of the flower order. Nice, but when were you going to tell us? I then asked about the excursion we had booked for our anniversary, a vineyard tour. After several emails previously with the concierge, I had not received any detailed instructions or map. I even said, please tell me this is not screwed up. He looked at my account and said yes, I see it’s there on your booking. He didn’t offer any further information. I said, do we just show up at the winery at 11? I should have insisted that he call to confirm it for us – actually, he should have done that without me asking. But I think he had no idea how this was supposed to be handled. Well, of course it was screwed up. We looked up the vineyard address and showed up to find that we were in the wrong place, and once we got to the right place, they had no record of our booking. Apparently the concierge left the hotel a few weeks prior, and left this undone. This time I called the hotel manager, who did call me back and apologized, and comped the most expensive night of our stay. We returned to the room at the end of the day and found that the two things we’d requested, ice and a bar of soap, were not there. Had to call the manager again. When we asked at the front desk to break a $20 into four 5’s, the guy looked in the drawer and said he only had 10’s. (Hint: if you want your staff to receive tips, it would be a good idea to keep small bills on hand!) The next morning at breakfast, we asked our delightful server, Emily, and she immediately said if they didn’t have change downstairs, she’d run up to Accounting and get it, which she did. Not sure why the front desk guy couldn’t be bothered to do the same. Our final night we had dinner at the hotel, and when the bill came the server said they had comped the cocktail and the dessert, knowing we’d had some issues during our stay. That was unexpected and nice. Even more surprising, when we checked out the next morning, the manager was there and said they had comped the entire dinner. I appreciate the gesture, and that he did everything he could to make up for the service gaps we experienced. We did have some individuals who were great, particularly Emily in the restaurant and the head of the valet team. I can only hope he is able to get the rest of the staff back up to snuff. The property itself is lovely, recently remodeled, clean and comfortable. Our room was huge, the bathroom had a partially-heated floor and plenty of counter space. Plenty of drawer space, bedside reading lights and electrical outlets. Free snacks and a welcome glass of sparkling wine. The only thing I would change is the lighting, which is one of those overly complicated, inscrutable electronic systems. We put a sticky note over the motion sensor in the bathroom so we didn’t continually disturb one another in the middle of the night. The restaurant is also excellent, for both breakfast and dinner, and the bar serves a great hamburger. Hopefully our experience was not typical, and I would probably give them another try after things have returned to normal.

We stayed 3 nights recently and I have to say even though I thought the room was extremly nice (comfortable, large bathroom, very modern) and the gardens beautiful and serene like, the best part of the stay was the people that worked at MP. Eveyone was so nice and accomodating and really made us feel at home. The only down side to our visit was having to leave. Loved this place.

We've been coming to MacArthur Place for over 10 years now. We always liked it, and we loved Saddles restaurant. When I saw they were remodeling, and changing the restaurant, I was worried. I let them know through Facebook, and they invited me for dinner from the new chef and a tour of a newly remodeled room, so I could see what to expect when everything was done. Well, the steak and cocktails were great, and we stayed again in 2020, just days before the Covid Shelter In Place orders. This weekend, we made our first return since then. It was fantastic. There were plenty of friendly, helpful young men to help with luggage and to park the car. We were checked in very quickly by a friendly young lady. Our luggage was taken to our room, which was a great room. One of only two rooms in that building, so no upstairs neighbors. A private patio out back with outdoor shower and tub, and a sitting area. The inside bathroom was very large, and the shower was just the right size, with decent water pressure. The toilet had it's own room, there were dual sinks, spaced a good distance apart, footlights that came on when you entered, and nice products, as well. The bed was very comfortable, the TV was very big and had a great picture. Really, no complaints at all, except maybe that phone. The only part I could get to work was the 0 button. But with that I was able to order room service one night, and it was great. We ate at the bar the next night, and that was even better. Audrey was especially wonderful. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful, and many had photo buttons on, so you could see their faces, as most are still wearing masks. We will return!
