The Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort is located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley and renowned Santa Barbara County wine country. Privately owned and operated since 1946, the Alisal is a working cattle ranch and full-service resort. This historic ranch is one of four original Spanish land grants on the west coast given to conquistador Raimundo Carrillo in the late 1700’s. Today, the romance and majesty of the old west remain in the wide-open spaces and unspoiled natural beauty of the Alisal. They serve as a reminder of simpler times and as an invitation to those with a taste for adventure. As California's premier guest ranch, the Alisal transports guests back to a bygone era. Set on a 10,000-acre working cattle ranch, this one-of-a-kind resort blends the best of nature with exceptional golf, horseback riding, tennis, fishing on a 100-acre private lake, fitness center and spa, children's activities, barnyard activities and fine dining.

The staff is caring and so very attentive. There's a fabulous spa and a wide variety of activities if you want them, or you can bring a puzzle and a couple good books and enjoy hanging out in your clean and well appointed room with fireplace if it's raining, or most days, outside soaking up the winter sun. The three course dinner menu is extensive and changes every night. And the meals are delicious! The ranch is a perfect getaway for couples, families, and extended families to gather without worrying about what to make for dinner or where to eat - your table is ready and waiting for you at breakfast and dinner every day; both included!

Alisal is wonderful place to spend with family and friends. It's a guest ranch where you can ride horses, eat wonderful meals, and catch up. We went with another family, family friends for thirty years, and our families had a terrific time. The Room: We opted for a townhouse type room with a living room a loft master bedroom on the second floor. Room was immaculate. Carpeting looked brand new. Tasteful, Pendleton blanket as wall hanging. Horseback Riding: We opted for the breakfast ride. You ride for about 30 minutes through rolling hills to a location where they serve you breakfast outdoors, buffet style, and then you ride back. Horses are well-cared for, which is important to us. Jen was our guide, and she was terrific! Meals: We did our dinners at the main restaurant. Everyone dresses up as their is a dress code where men are required to wear jackets. Food is wonderful. There were eight of us, and some of us had steak, others fish, another chicken, and another the pork. Everyone was very happy with their dishes. Tennis: Tennis courts are terrific, surfaced well. Beautiful Tropitone chairs to sit in between games. Overall, we highly recommend Alisal for a family and friends gathering.

This place is an amazing experience and a 10/10. From the welcoming check in staff to the gentleman who lit a fire in our wood burning fireplace to our entirely entertaining wrangler, everything was great. The chef had some really great options. I have been coming here since I was a child, and I’m 59 now. The atmosphere has been amazing all those years. I have loved every visit. I cannot wait to bring my future grandchildren!

It’s hard to know where to start. First the people. Genuinely friendly welcoming and helpful. The horseback riding was so fun. Great horses and the wranglers are so knowledgeable and kind. Novice to expert you can have a beautiful ride at the Alisal. The food is amazing. You certainly don’t have to worry about going hungry. Nice selections from steaks to shrimp tacos. Everything was well prepared and delicious. The two golf courses are challenging but fun and of course there is also tennis. But we actually learned how to play pickle ball. Great instructor and so fun playing with other guests. We and the other guests took a breakfast ride to an old adobe home on the ranch where breakfast was prepared for us. Everything from eggs bacon ham and potatoes to burritos and biscuits and gravy. We were entertained by a vocalist and then got to hear some cowboy tales that were true “mostly” The rooms are spacious and have everything you need (including a working wood burning fire place)and one thing you don’t - a tv. We really appreciated escaping from the news and the habit of turning the tv on as soon as you hit the door. Hoping to maintain my new habit of not needing the tv on. I highly recommend the Alisal. I came this time with a friend but I would be comfortable returning alone. They really do treat you as family.
