The Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort is located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley and renowned Santa Barbara County wine country. Privately owned and operated since 1946, the Alisal is a working cattle ranch and full-service resort. This historic ranch is one of four original Spanish land grants on the west coast given to conquistador Raimundo Carrillo in the late 1700’s. Today, the romance and majesty of the old west remain in the wide-open spaces and unspoiled natural beauty of the Alisal. They serve as a reminder of simpler times and as an invitation to those with a taste for adventure. As California's premier guest ranch, the Alisal transports guests back to a bygone era. Set on a 10,000-acre working cattle ranch, this one-of-a-kind resort blends the best of nature with exceptional golf, horseback riding, tennis, fishing on a 100-acre private lake, fitness center and spa, children's activities, barnyard activities and fine dining.

If you're fan of the Netflix show Heartland or just love the country/western feel, this ranch is for you. We had tried to visit here several times but COVID put a damper on our plans. Finally, we made it to the ranch and were not at all disappointed! Guest services were top notch, lots of precautions are taken for COVID! The check-in process is done via touch pads with a hostess guiding us through the process. There is a short walk to the guest "bungalows" and the ranch provides little wagons to haul your stuff or they will have someone bring them for you if needed. Our bungalow as a duplex style but there was no noise between the rooms. Some of the bungalows are individual units. Our had a very large living room with a wood burning fireplace and two fold-out couches. Our bedroom itself was large and the bed was EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE!! There are many horse and barnyard related activities along with many hiking and biking trails. We took a private, two hour trail ride with Sara who was very knowledgeable and patient with us! The guest package is inclusive of breakfast, dinner and all drinks including wines and mixed drinks. It reminded us of a cruise, tables are assigned. Man are required to wear jackets inside for dinner. The food was excellent as was the breakfast and dinner service. There are two golf courses the River course and the Ranch course. River is public and I managed my first round on a Monday in less then 4 hours but the same course played very slow on Tuesday. The Ranch course is private but available to Ranch guests. I made a mistake by not playing it. The pool area is very large and goes from shallow to 8 feet. The pool bar was closed because of COVID during our visit but there is a bar nearby for food and drink. Overall it's a great place to visit, with our food and drinks included but excluding the trail ride and golf it cost us about $600.00 per day.

The Alisal Guest Ranch is truly a one of a kind place. From the moment we drove onto the property, we felt different. It was a version of relaxed that we hadn’t experienced for quite some time. The staff was friendly and accommodating — all of them! Even the animals are friendly. I’m not kidding. While hiking on the property, we realized there were some horses in the same field we were hiking through. At first, we thought maybe we had entered a space where we weren’t supposed to be. Then the horses came up to us as if to say hello and then went on their way. It was a magical moment, only one of many. The rooms were so unique and beautiful. Ours had been recently remodeled and was so tastefully done. The food we enjoyed on the property was so fresh and good. Chef Endy and his staff are certainly doing something right. I sent the picture below to some friends with the caption, “Just taking my wife out for breakfast.” And it was true, we rode horses to get breakfast. Another magical time. It honestly felt as if all the staff were conspiring to make our three days at Alisal AMAZING! And they succeeded.

It’s been a few years since we visited but it’s still the best experience! Enjoyed dining in their restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Personnel are caring and professional. We enjoyed our ranch house accommodations. Service was responsive and excellent. Enjoyed both their courses, beautiful, interesting, and well-kept. We shall return.

Very fun relaxing vacation!!! Our biggest problem is that we didn’t stay enough nights! We never got to fish or play pickle ball or so any of the outdoor classes, but did play golf and ride horses It was great. Beat thing? Nicest employees EVER!!!! Appreciative and so helpful

What an absolutely unbelievable experience, left at the entrance and horses on the right that greet you. ❤️❤️❤️ began with a bash of a barbecue where food and the meeting of new people was superb. The meat was grilled to perfectly pink!!! The fire pits and lights all charmed my evening. The porch had me! The room was all one needs , the fireplace was my favorite...I took the matches! Forgot to mention Clint who helped up and then was even more appreciated for being so understanding when I couldn’t ride....❤️ standing with the horses was just as special morning, noon and night. We loved the tall well dressed host at dinner, a great personality!! The whiskeys at the bar are on point! A great selection, a great one available in their Mercantile. Just every turn a new sound of a beautiful bird or a wild Turkey or a horse rolling around....the food on property, breakfast my favorite and the portions...be ready! Even the coffee was great and tasted like coffee! Walking and taking short drives felt like from another time, a calmer time!
