Old school meets authentic ranch life. The barn/horse corral is prominent on your right as you arrive down the long, sycamore-lined driveway.... the horse experience was what it was all about for us.. particularly dad and our 10 year old! We had only rode a handful of times before, and really appreciated the care that goes into the stable. They...

Our children enjoy the Alisal so much this past New Years vacation. Our son loved the welcoming cookie pie and the family last name on the greeting daily ranch itinerary. Every date look forward to know what he was going to do the next day. They had fun collecting eggs, and feeding the animals at the farm. Love the ride...

We've been going to the Alisal with my sister's family for almost 20 years. It's the perfect getaway with no distractions. You can be as active as you want with horseback riding, archery, golf, hiking, swimming. Or you can bring books and relax. The food is great, you never have to think about meals. Lots of vegetarian choices, too.

The 10,000 acre Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort is just half an hour from Santa Barbara, nestled in the Santa Ynez Mountains near the quaint town of Solvang. When you are there, you are surrounded by natural beauty--tall sycamores that shade the main part of the resort, views of the mountains, and rolling hills and oak trees. We've seen deer,...

We joined some friends who come here every year. They raved about it so much we finally agreed to come with them. The grounds and rooms are very nice and clean. Each room has a wood burning fire place, which was wonderful given the chilly nights. We were very lucky to be able to join the horseback ride and pancake...

The Alisal prides itself on our outstanding horsemanship and quality herd stock. We make every effort to ensure safety and the well being of the guest as well as the horses. Your experience was unfortunate and extremely rare. Due to this experience, the Alisal would like to offer a complimentary private ride and lesson on your next visit. We sincerely...

Great resort for family or couples. We enjoyed playing both golf courses, and relaxing on the front porch--and our room was just great. We definitely need to do the trail ride next time. I know they are into "no phones or TVs" but I think the no phone thing is unsafe for emergency purposes--yes, most of us have cell phones...

I had planned my husband's 80th birthday weekend for our family: 14 adults and 10 grandchildren. I made reservations months in advance with hope that accommodations, meals, service, activities for the grandchildren would be enjoyed by all. Our weekend surpassed all expectations. The grounds, meals, rooms, activities for the children and youth, staff and service were exceptional. Even the immaculate...

Two friends & I spent the weekend here for the first time. It is like another world - scenic, peaceful, relaxing, wholesome. We did the breakfast horseback ride that was fabulous - saw deer & coyote. We hiked the trail, swam in the lovely fresh water pool, did line dancing. We enjoyed the great service, comfortable & spacious room, and...

We had the pleasure of staying at the ranch during a quiet week so it felt like our own place. The staff was very friendly particularly the guys who work the activities on and near the lake. The morning breakfast ride was a real highlight. We saw lots of wildlife during our time out on the ranch including a bear,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort is located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley and renowned Santa Barbara County wine country. Privately owned and operated since 1946, the Alisal is a working cattle ranch and full-service resort. This historic ranch is one of four original Spanish land grants on the west coast given to conquistador Raimundo Carrillo in the late 1700’s. Today, the romance and majesty of the old west remain in the wide-open spaces and unspoiled natural beauty of the Alisal. They serve as a reminder of simpler times and as an invitation to those with a taste for adventure. As California's premier guest ranch, the Alisal transports guests back to a bygone era. Set on a 10,000-acre working cattle ranch, this one-of-a-kind resort blends the best of nature with exceptional golf, horseback riding, tennis, fishing on a 100-acre private lake, fitness center and spa, children's activities, barnyard activities and fine dining. ... more   less
