All of our guest rooms are delightfully decorated, featuring luxurious feather beds and cozy sitting areas, designed to ensure comfort and relaxation. Throughout the B&B, charming collectibles are mixed with original watercolor paintings from local artists, fresh flowers and scented candles. The array of warm, vibrant colors and soft lighting complete the design details of the B&B, appealing to all of the senses. The original red and white Cape Cod style home, custom built 60 years ago, reflects that era of fine craftsmanship, found in the original oak floors, handset granite stone fireplace and the knotty pine throughout. Located in a new cottage behind the main house, the romantic Cedar and Sequoia Suites are an artistic design complement. Gourmet breakfast and afternoon sweet time daily is included. Also we have two cute suites at Drake's Landing for a small family or two couples. In addition for large family get-togethers, we have vacation cabins that sleep from 6-10 guests.

You do not check in, they send you a code to open the lock to get into your room. They do not describe where and in which building this room might be located. We arrived at night with out a flashlight. The rooms are located in buildings off of an alley. We had difficulty finding the building due to the address and business name being blocked by a group of Edison trucks that turned out to be parked on their property. I called and I believe spoke with Joanne. I described where I was including giving her the address of the building across the alley. Her response was " I don't know where you are". She hung up on me and hung up on me again when I called back. Eventually we found the room. Each room has a name and the names are on the wall next to the door. There is no indication on the front sides of the building that face the alley which rooms are in each building so you have to check each one. The room was clean and modern. We did have an issue with the heater not working one night when it got down into the 40's no matter how high we set the thermostat. We did not call due to the response when I first called for assistance and also that other reviewers had mentioned that the owners/managers were in Fresno and one hour away. The Breakfast on week days consisted of waffles, burritos, oat meal, etc in a refrigerator. We returned in the evening for "the reception" but nothing had changed. The building abuts hwy 168 and we discovered the logging trucks start at 4 AM

Response from Joanne Elliott, Owner at Elliott House Bed & Breakfast
Responded Jul 6, 2022
We appreciate guest reviews but would like to clarify that some of this information is misconstrued. We email or text check-in instructions 1-2 days prior to arrival with explicit information including how to find our guest parking, which is in the backyard of the B&B (and not off an alley as suggested.) We do our best to supply the lockbox code and where the room is located on those instructions. We ask guests not to arrive after 10p but this guest was closer to midnight. We are indeed on the main road (Tollhouse). Logging is done throughout the mountains, and we have no control over that. Sorry you were not happy during your stay.

That is not correct information. There was no mention of needing an ADA room, and no mention of a service dog when the reservation was made. And if indeed it was a service animal the guest is obliged to produce paperwork and verify prior to checking in. We have a no pet policy and have had it in place since we opened 22 years ago.

This would be a lovely hotel if it had on site staff or maintenance but sadly it has neither at night and as such is a potential nightmare. We arrived and there was no one there. We had to call several times to figure out how to get in. We were rudely told an email was sent and after some looking found the email in spam. No one on site at all at night. As we settled down we tried to shower and there was no hot water. Called owner and was told that there was nothing they could do as they live an hour away and there is no maintenance at night. They offered me a $50 credit off the $161 nightly rate and said that was all they can do. They stopped answering phone calls. We just left property as we can’t stay in a place with no hot showers available. If you stay here you’re taking a gamble that there are no maintenance issues because if there are then you’ll be stuck without hot water or perhaps heating or lights or what ever. I’d avoid this place until they provide emergency maintenance.

Were responding to 'nathanp594 review about his stay at our bed and breakfast December 29th, 2019. We are Joanne and Greg Elliott owners of the Elliott House B&B in Shaver Lake, California. We received a call at 9:00 pm the night of the guests stay to advise that the shower worked but there was not Hot water coming out. We talked him through some suggestions to get the hot water settings, including check-in if hot water was avalible in the sink, it was, he discovered the shower wasn't working. He ask for maintenance supervisor, which in our very small resort community of Shaver Lake, we have none available at the late hour. We should note that the guest arrived after hours check-in time and we sent him earlier in the evening an email and phone message directing him on the procedure to open his designated lock box with key code and the ability to enter the B&B and find his room. Our guest review included that we were 'rude' in advising him about the email delivery and we must take exception with that comment. After 20 years in the B&B business, rude is never something innkeepers like us use in conversing with our very important guests. The following morning on December 30th, we were able to have the shower looked at by a plumbing company and discovered that the on/off knob in that shower had broken off inside the plumbing some time the night before causing it to (lock) in the cold water only position. We advised out guest that we gave them a 'full refund' with our apologies and have further offered him a discount on his return. Our B&B is served by four 50 gallon water heaters as well as the new 'tank-less' variety therefore insuring hot water is indeed available 24 hours a day. We apologize to our guest for the cold reception and will promise that his return will be, much warmer! Joanne & Greg Elliott, Innkeepers & Owners

Upon our arrival we were greeted with a wine and sweets reception. We most enjoyed the ambiance and the gesture, but found the off-putting manner of one of the owners of the house to be quite unwelcoming. Despite this, we were pleased with our room, which was an ideal mountain retreat, complete with warm wood paneling, a pot bellied, gas wood stove and an ample bathroom that included a large jacuzzi tub. It should be noted that the property does face a busy road, thus we did experience a bit of road noise. We were there during the off-season, thus the noise was minimal. The breakfast was both abundant and delicious. However, we were a little taken a back by the fact that breakfast was served between the restrictive window of 8:30-9:30 a.m. This is quite fine for the early riser, but takes away from the leisurely breakfast one would expect to experience at a bed and breakfast. Overall, we had a most enjoyable stay.

The bed and breakfast was a lovely getaway with cozy rooms and a wonderful staff! We stayed in a room with a fireplace and tub, and would highly recommend it! The bedding was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was exceptional. Hands down - some of the best breakfast meals I've had! It was a perfect place for a quiet, romantic getaway. We will be back for sure!

Charleston is steeped in history and so much to see and do. A booking for a first time visit was daunting, but found the Elliott House to be a charmer. In the heart of sights, excellent restaurants, walks... just about everything! The staff was helpful, the complimentary breakfast, either delivered to your room or taken in the courtyard was diverse; the wine reception each night in the courtyard was peaceful and perfect.

My daughter and I were looking for a quick getaway to explore a new place together, and since Bass Lake was sold out, we looked into Shaver Lake and the Elliott House. I'm so glad it worked out for this visit! This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast, and we have been converted! Greg & his wife were so sweet and accommodating, and it was very comforting to return after exploring the area to what felt like someone's home. Their warm hospitality was really appreciated! We were also at Shaver before the big crowds, so it was peaceful but almost a little eerie to be in the woods without many people around, and coming home to the B&B was great!!

A mixture of charm and elegance in a rustic cabin atmosphere. The rooms are small but have complete amenities including wine and wi-fi. Located on top of a mountain but the road up is fine. 4wd during winter. You will be half-way between Sequoyah Nat. Park, and Yosemite. The village of Shaver Lake is from storybook land. The Elliott House is in easy walking distance to the nicest little restaurant where all the locals can be found. I lose my objectivity thinking about this place, so I'll stop now. Say hi to the Elliott's for me.

The Elliot House is a wonderful treasure in the mountains of central California! We have stayed there many times over the past years and always come back because we love it! Greg and Joanne take such amazing care of their guests even down to every detail. The rooms are clean, cozy and comfortable and the breakfast is incredible! They are great cooks! Even fresh cookies or treats await you on arrival and Greg can give you recommendations for dinner and walks. The sitting areas outside are even charming! Highly recommend this B & B! A great place to relax and enjoy away from the hectic city.
