We stayed here for two nights. Our room 431 was a kingsize room facing the inner court. Price:199$/night. So not too much noise. Rooms facing the street side are apparently very noisy! The room was very very basic..."motel style" but without coffee maker, fridge or microwave. Very small bathroom with an almost non-draining sink and bath. Airco was very old... More

All members of staff were very helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived! Very smiley and welcoming which was lovely, especially one of the young ladies working on reception. This hotel is in a great location just walking distance from Santa Monica pier/ beach. This is what we especially loved about this hotel- how near we were to the... More

Stayed here for three nights. Fantastic Santa Monica location only a short stroll from the pier. Lots of shopping and restaurants all around. It is rather dated and tired, but is kept very, very clean. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The valets really look after you and get you good deals on transport and advice. I'd stay here... More

Great location but the hotel is very basic with no tea/coffee making facilities and no fridge or microwave which we had in most of the hotels we had visited. The taps over the bath were also a bit annoying. It was a lucky guess if you managed to get the hot and cold off at the correct place to prevent... More

Hello Bruce M Thanks for staying with us at Hotel Carmel and posting a review of your experience. I'm sorry you had an issue with the shower handle. It sounds like the faucet stem needs to be replaced because that shouldn't have been a issue as you have described it. No, we don't offer in room coffee and tea, but... More

Great location but all a bit beige. Needs brightening up. Rooms adequate size. you also need to ask for a hairdryer. No tea or coffee in rooms but they do offer this in reception with pastries. Beach is about 10 minute walk. The pier is definitely worth a visit and you must walk up to muscle beach!

A great location, I can't stress that enough. Literally a 5 minute walk from Santa Monica pier and beach. It's just such a shame the hotel is like a motel inside, it's a bit dated and the bathroom (restroom) was prehistoric, however it was very clean and I slept very well. Some small investment into the rooms would make this... More

Thanks for your review. We really appreciate your positive comments regarding our fantastic location, clean room, and polite staff. I will also acknowledge your opinions on the room being dated but I'm not sure I would agree with an opinion that our bathrooms are prehistoric. I'm not even sure what that means. You can say our bathrooms are small and... More

Average rooms - bad air con, really stuffy. No hair dryer either - I thought even the most basic rooms came with a hair dryer! Staff weren't very helpful - we asked for help on how to get to six flags and they never got back to us - at one point we were right in front of reception discussing... More

OK, we'd probably rather have stayed right on the front on Ocean Avenue, but this room, one block back, was about half the price. We just walked in, and they had a fourth-floor king bed room free. It's clean, it's quiet, it has air con (but no fridge), and it's close to everything people come to Santa Monica for -... More

Great if you just need a bed to sleep in. Rooms need to be updated, no fridge or microwaves in room, hair dryer can be supplied for quick use. Room was very small, noisey and stunk of old smoke. Staff were not that helpful. Only positive was it is close to the pier, although there was plenty of parking available.... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
