This property has friendly employees and helpful. The lobby is very clean. Our room was very clean and very comfortable. I would stay here again. Very pleased. We walked down to the pier from here and it was a nice walk. We took Uber back for around $10.

My 2nd time staying at the Gateway hotel with my son when staying in Santa Monica, my go to hotel when traveling from the United Kingdom. 6 nights we stayed here this time. Always a friendly welcome from staff soon as you enter the building very polite and very helpful. Our room was superb and spotless and was cleaned and tidy every day, nothing was to much trouble from the front desk when we needed new coffee and milk for the machine. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here and we will be back in the very near future, all the best to you. Mark and Daniel Abbott.

In many ways this is a good little hotel. The rooms are nice, there is parking available and an in house restaurant. The location is a little way from the Santa Monica beach front and 3rd St., but that can be reached in a single stop on the nearby Metro. What really lets this hotel down is the wireless internet access, which is shockingly poor, to the point of being unusable. This is 2022 and good internet access is no longer a luxury; it's a necessity like running water or electricity. I've experienced much better internet access in developing countries. The hotel really needs to get this fixed.

Our room was nice and clean and a great location for the price. Staff were helpful and friendly. Within walking distance from 3rd street and the beach. However, wifi intermittent which was frustrating when trying to do work. Also located next to the hospital so a lot of sirens.

LA is very big so location is key. This hotel is located in Santa Monica but still pretty far from the beach, at least by feet (20-30 mins). Thats also how long it takes to get to the shopping and restaurant area. If you don’t have a car (like us) You can get to Downtown LA by Metro (Expo line) but it takes ages and Theres Strange People on the Train. So there is Not a lot going on in the surrounding area of the Hotel, but the Hotel Itself was nice and clean and simply the best we could afford in SM. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I also found it to be Quite Quiet which is a big plus. One evening the fire alarm went off, which was a false alarm, but scary nonetheless. Air condition wasnt working in one room but was fixed quickly.

Fool me once . . . .Not only is this hotel a cheap flip job, it is also staffed with a team who could care less about guests. It is BARELY clean. I took a long pause and hesitated before taking a shower. There are no wash clothes for showering and no body wash in the bathrooms. In fact, there is almost nothing in rooms but a laminated note that reads, "amenities . . . have been removed from all guest rooms" and a whole bunch of bad attitudes in the "hotel." I also made the mistake of asking (at night) if I could have a scale to weigh myself in the morning (I do not normally use a scale when I am traveling but I'm heading on vacation after this work trip). When I asked for the scale, I was told that there is only one for the entire hotel and they could not let me have it at 10pm because someone else might need it in the middle of the night (huh?). Instead, I would have to wake up at 5:30am and ask the front desk to bring one up. How much do you want to bet that there will be nobody answering that phone at 5:30am (and even if there is, they almost certainly will tell me that they can't leave the front desk and bring it up to my room)? I am literally sitting here racking my brain trying to think of who in the world would give this hotel a 5 or 4 star rating? I should have heeded the warnings of the "Terrible, Poor, and Okay"-rating travelers. Lesson learned.

We stayed here at end of July for 4 nights and overall we were happy with our stay. We were on room 411 which is on the top floor, one of the larger rooms and away from most noise so definitely a recommended room! The room was clean, the cleaners came everyday and there was TV, safe and hairdryer. We walked to Santa Monica pier - it took 35 minutes which wasn't too bad! They also provide a small grab and go breakfast. However, the only thing to have in mind is that their are not many restaurants or amenities round the hotel if you are there for tourism and were hoping to not have to walk far. But I would definitely stay here again!

The room was good and clean. The lady who working at the front desk was nice when we checked in. However, we dropped off the key in the drop box key that they provided for check out and my husband even told the lady that we checked out . It was around 10 am -1015 am yesterday and the hotel checked out time is noon. Today I got a message from the hotel that we checked out late than usual. That is not true. We just went to the trip on East Coast for 2 weeks with at least 5 hotels that we were stayed with no problem for check out.The hotel can even check the camera before message to client and told them that they checked out late than usual. Before you message to clients about check out late, you should double check it. This is not nice to the client. I think I would not stay here again.

We stayed here during UCLA's graduation period to attend a family event. So first of all in terms of getting to UCLA and Westwood or to go to Santa Monica Pier this location is very convenient. The room was clean, staff friendly, however for the price we paid, I would say it felt more like a nice motel 6. The Wifi was bad, I mean really bad, we were on the first floor and it disconnected every 60 seconds, our lap-top really was unusable. The refrigerator in the room really was on it's last legs, it was able to keep our fare just above room temperature, not much more. You can't make coffee in the room, for well over $300/night, you should be able to make a coffee in your room. We were on the first floor, room 109 and it was noisy. You could hear everyone getting on and off the elevator and their conversations quite clearly, luckily some conversations were quite entertaining, but I would prefer that they stay private for those individuals. At 06:00 someone starting vacuuming the floors outside our room, I guess that explains why the place was very clean, but not to nice to wake up to. In some ways it was good to be on the first floor, because the elevators were very slow, one reason why we heard so many conversations. No ice machine on the first floor, so I had to take the elevator up to another floor to get ice, which is why I know the elevator is slow. They have ample underground parking, but if you want to take the steps up from the underground parking it takes you outside the hotel's main entrance around the corner. No way to take the steps up inside the hotel. The bed was comfortable, and the rooms are clean, but we expected a lot more for the type of money they are charging. Mind you not unreasonable expectations, but they just couldn't quite get there.

Very nice little hotel, far enough from the beach to be void of the tourist crowd (20 blocks). Close to shopping, fantastic restaurants, and that gorgeous Santa Monica beach. Easy access to the freeway and perfectly located about 20 minutes south of the San Fernando Valley and about 20 minutes north of LAX. Very nice clean and comfortable rooms, great staff, morning grab&go breakfast snack. Rooms have refrigerator but no microwave. 2 courtesy bottles of water in the room were a nice surprise. Hotel has its own underground parking for $16.50/day. Fantastic experience!
