This place has a great quirky feel about it including a wonderful large foyer/ bar set up on the ground floor which is a great place to read a book or catch up on emails. The hotel itself is quite old so you don't get some of the trappings of a more modern place i e. air con, tv in... More

Where shall I start... We visited the Palihouse during our trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles and the Palihouse was our last and definitely most wonderful stop. Literally every centimeter of this place was perfect. First of all, the house is located in a beautiful spot of Santa Monica, perfectly neat, silent and close to the beach and third... More

Had a brilliant 5 night stay at this lovely hotel in August with my wife and 3 teenage boys. From the moment we arrived we knew we'd made the right choice. Firstly, its residential location, 2 blocks back from the beach and 2 blocks from the bustle of Santa Monica centre made this a quiet place to stay. Secondly, we... More

We loved everything about Palihouse Santa Monica. The location was wonderful and staff was superb. There was so much attention to detail and each and every employee we encountered went above and beyond to make our stay great. Every restaurant recommendation was terrific and breakfast and coffee in the main lobby were yummy. The cookies and candy in the lobby... More

We loved this funky, historic and unique hotel. Santa Monica has plenty of predictable places to stay. They're all expensive even as many are downright mediocre. The Palihouse is not cheap, but reasonably priced for the area and what you get, which is a buffer from the overcrowded scene right on the beach, great charm, real flair, huge rooms, amazing... Dear 43reds, Thank you for your wonderful 4-star review and recognizing our unique offering in Santa Monica! Palihouse refreshed the hotel, without removing any of the special qualities that makes this building unique, like the large operable doors and windows, the wooden ceiling beams and classic barista bar that was once the reception area. With that in mind, there are... More

This is a very unique hotel. It was built in 1927 and there are a lot of wonderful architectural aspects that still remain. The main structure with the beautiful wood throughout the building. The building is just beautiful and maintains the original design. The "lift or elevator is original from the 1940's". All the rooms have been remodeled and are... More

We worked extremely hard in preserving mostly everything that made this building unique, including all of the things you mentioned, while still adding our own Pali-style. Although we don’t have a bar or pool, we do encourage... More

I really didn't know what to expect so this is, in my opinion, the pros and cons. Pros: Its a historic building and very interesting. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. I was not there on a weekend so the breakfast was not complementary but very good and I enjoyed it on their very nice garden patio. Cons:... More

Stayed here for two nights in July. The hotel is very elegant and old (some interesting decor, we had joked it was haunted--it's not, don't worry). Our room overlooked the entrance with the fountain, and it was very nice and clean. We had to sleep with the window open to keep the room cool (we talked to another guest at... More

I travel alot and am in the hotel business but too many call themselves boutique but this is what boutique is about. Next is the amazing lobby, perfectly appointed furniture and rich historic details. But what... More

Phenomenal customer service by Ryan while checking in at midnight. Beautiful and charming room with super comfortable beds and bedding. Walking distance to anything you could want in Santa Monica. This was my second stay here and I'll be back. It feels like a west coast Greenwich Hotel.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
