The staff at the Oceana Santa Monica makes every guest feel welcome - from our first visit through our most recent. There are always warm welcomes from the valet staff upon arrival through the front desk for check-in and the restaurant and lounge during the visit. The hotel is perfectly staffed for the scale and size of the property to give appropriate attention to every guest. We have stayed 4 times so far in 2022, and would like to commend the staff - each and every person we have had the pleasure to meet. The valet staff: Lenny, the manager, made wonderful recommendations for our experiences in LA, and was always ready to help; Cesar, who is an exceptionally mature and thoughtful young man who really stood out among the team; Cham Sean Mario And I know I am forgetting others, and they are all excellent! At the front desk: Nathan Victoria Krystal Melody Some others whose names I don't recall At the restaurant venues: Sarah, who is absolutely the hardest working most gregarious person who chipped in with wait staff and others to make sure no detail regarding anyone's experience was overlooked, Nery Alyssa and some others I don't recall. Also, weekend guests are treated to exceptional musical performances by David Aldo, an extremely talented male vocalist, whose voice is wonderful and musical selections perfect for setting the tone as we watched the sunset from the intimate 3rd floor lounge.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 10+ years and I love this upscale hotel as a little escape. It’s private, hip and really quaint. The restaurant just reopened to the public/locals outside of hotel guests and I’m thrilled! It’s a little retreat that any visitor or local will enjoy. Im very picky when I travel and love boutique hotels. You will not be disappointed! If you are staying somewhere else, you should at least come for lunch or dinner. Ask for Kassandra!

This property is right across from the Santa Monica Beach, on Ocean Ave. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed. While we only had our first night booked before traveling internationally, the entire team made checking in quick and efficient. We used the Valet parking, while a team member unloaded our bags and helped us to our room. They showed us around since it was our first time staying, every detail was thought out and the team made sure that we knew that they were there to help with anything we needed. Staff from the restaurant brought our drinks to our room, welcomed our small child with a small toy and their lavender lemonade. We wished we spent more than just a night there before traveling. When it was time to leave Lenny made sure that our car was ready, our bags were packed and we had anything we needed on our traveling journey. We sincerely appreciated the hospitality by the entire team, but Lenny really stood out to ensure we were well taken care of. When we left, we looked forward to our next stay!

OK, not excellent is our summary review. 3 out of 5 was a consideration rating but we rated 4 based on some of the efforts made by the venue at the time. Bearing in mind the premium service standard this venue is seeking to consistently deliver and charge for, we would recommend a review of service delivery on these following main levels based on our experience, which we appreciate may differ to others, but have endeavoured to be constructive. Overall, we acknowledge the staff did try to be helpful but coordination from a guest perspective was lacking in our view. We just felt we had to chase the venue rather than the venue being prepared for us. Amenities: The pool although small was nice and warm, the food and drink we chose was good. Pool seating comfortable but limited. Outdoor dining space is also limited, the large planter trees take up much floor space and at times tables were taken up by hotel staff for meetings and entertaining. Plus the outdoor fire was on in the daytime with the sun beating down. TV's in the room did not have a device streaming option to connect to. To shade from the sun I sat in the bar/restaurant but this at times seemed inconvenient to the staff, some were more engaging than others and my thanks to them. It was a big shame that the upstairs lounge was not functioning as a bar as we would have spent more time there. Check-in & Billing: As a learning for the venue for the future the communication/transparency on fee at the venue could definitely improve. For example, making clear on check-in there was a $50 daily resort fee to apply: Only on departure from Oceana were we charged $50/day resort fee plus occupancy tax. This fee was not explained on arrival by reception at Oceana. In fact on arrival we were told about complimentary services such as house car and yoga. On departure, having had a broken night due to the power outage described below, and early departure time, this was not the departure bill we anticipated and had budgeted for. In addition, we shared some booking notes with our booking agent which were passed to the venue. The venue made no acknowledgment on arrival of my feather allergy or the fact that our stay was in celebration of our joint 50th birthdays. Room allocation: We were allocated Room 110 and told any alternative room would be no different on check in. We would highlight to the venue that Room 110, although a nice looking room had several significant soundproofing and comfort issues, namely the sofa bed (which I ended up sleeping on) was not suitable for a 4 night stay leading to me experiencing back pain following restless nights. The room suffered heavily with noise pollution from upstairs within the venue (voices/footsteps and on Sat 26th Aug shouting and swearing from room above) and audible voices and vehicle noise outside the property due to very low level window glazing to the main bedroom meaning my wife and daughter were awoken every night of their stay. We had no issue at either of our other previous hotels. The curtain in the lounge did allow light in and also curtains had to be drawn for privacy due to ground level location. Housekeeping: We also found the housekeeping arrangements very confusing and had no idea what time the service would happen meaning we had to wait on 2 of 4 days to access the room and had to follow up with reception to arrange. We stayed in much larger properties during our U.S. visit and never had to wait to access our room or guess when Housekeeping would come. We could see staff wandering around with clipboards but we could see little logic in the room cleaning order. Power outage issue: The low point of our stay occurred on the final night at Oceana Hotel Santa Monica (Thu 27 Aug) when there was a significant power outage at the venue (very localised so only a very small number of buildings impacted) lasting c.8 hrs from 4pm to midnight. We had to shower and change in the dark which was extremely frustrating and not entirely safe. With a medical condition this power outage lead to me being unable to use my cpap device for several hours that night. We had to seek out updates on what was happening so communication was left wanting. The venue seemed extremely unprepared for such a circumstance, scrambling for torches etc which we had to request to secure safe passage. The Duty Manager Sherilyn as a goodwill has applied a 50% discount to our final night which will be refunded via our booking agent. We have accepted the 50% refund for Night 4 and thank the venue for this acknowledgement. Overall: We left feeling short changed on our time at Oceana bearing in mind the rate charged and the experience received. The Beverly Wilshire in comparison did not miss a beat on our stay there prior to arrival at Oceana, and charged less, even acknowledging our celebration with a room upgrade.

This was my second time having the pleasure to stay at Oceana. There were many new faces, but I experienced the same high level of service. The accommodations are absolutely stunning. The food is top notch. The vibes at the pool, the bar and the restaurant are classy, yet relaxed, and inviting. Most of all, it's the wonderful people that work here, and how you are treated as a guest, that sets the Oceana apart. Shout outs to Marissa, the head manager on site. She was fantastic, and very attentive. I was treated very well by her team throughout the restaurant, bar and pool area. Special thanks to Naomi, Ella, Hrishi, Thibualt, & Laurent for making me feel at home- you all rock. Valets Dan, Lenny & Nestor are super friendly and helpful. They help with the heavy lifting, provide valuable insights and recommendations, and they do it all with a smile. Joshua, at the front desk is super friendly. And lastly, Chef Alex - your team's cuisine is top notch. I enjoyed every meal that I had, and can eat the entire menu. I can't wait to return and try a few more items I did not get to yet. My apologies to anyone I may have interacted with that I am forgetting. Know that you are all wonderful, and play a distinct role in making this place so special. I look forward to returning to Oceana again. If you are fortunate enough to be able to stay here, do not pass up the opportunity!

Lenny was a delight- so helpful and always there when you needed him! He made the stay so enjoyable! Dan was also very helpful as was Attia! It is so nice to actually feel invited! Excellent experience!
