Beach casual chic of this hotel property make the hotel and exceptional gem. Great views of the blue Pacific Ocean and the iconic Santa Monica Pier will make every visit special. Highly recommended, especially if you want something more than a brand hotel.
Needed a place to unwind and went into the Living Room for a drink. Absolutely fabulous decor and the service was fantastic. Right on the beach with a gorgeous view. We were so impressed that we have decided to stay here the next time we are in Santa Monica. The walk on the pier was a huge disappointment from what I remember about 50 years ago
The hotel staff, the restaurants, the bar, they are all fantastic. Shutters is the best of the best. We would often show up tired, staggered, disorganized, etc and none of it mattered. We were hydrated, fed and treated with supreme care. We did not get to take advance of many of the great amenities like bikes, yoga, etc but those are all wonderful. The spa is fantastic and the product lines they feature are all top of the line. It is a magical place.
Horrible experience. Most of the staff was extremely unprofessional. Room small and dusty. Swimming pool filthy. Noise goes on all night long. Drunks and homeless people are part of the hotel decor. Forget sitting on the beach-only 6 chairs and the attendants are useless. No hot water for tea in the morning. Power goes on and off. Alarm system constantly shrieking.
Ok it's Shutters On The Beach - but what do I really want. I want USB A and C by the bed. I want a room that doesn't take two lifts and three sides of a building to get to my room. I want a bathroom with a bigger shower and more vanity bench space and less old style bath. Service was excellent at valet and pool side, and as noted is a great location. Just feel in 2022 venue is very tired.
My husband booked a room with 2 queen beds (he called the hotel to make sure that we book a room with 2 Queen beds because we ware traveling with 2 adults and 2 children - 10 and 13 - who both needs space already - as do we). On arrival the disappointment was big as we figured out that we had a small room with 2 twin beds, sleeping 1 person, but definitely not 2. We had to book another room for 1300 Dollar a night to get a good night rest. Fortunately we got a discount on this second room, but we were very disappointed that we had to book a second room anyways. Everyone was superfriendly - the restaurants are both great - the host at the beach restaurant is great, so I'd really recommend the hotel, but check out the room size and bed size to avoid disappointment before you book (and let them be confirmed to you via e-mail - we just called and had nog proven confirmation so we were stucked with the Joice: sleep in a bed of 120cm with 2 people or book a second room at quite a high rate).…
I'll start with the good first. This hotel is lovely. The rooms are well-appointed with hardwood floors. The staff is incredible and warm and welcoming. But...and there is a but...for the price of our room, I expect to be able to sit outside (and I mean right outside the door on hotel property) and not be accosted by homeless people. The beach out front is filthy to put it mildly. Shame on Santa Monica. We travel to Los Angeles many times a year. We have stayed on beaches up and down its coast and this was the worst I've seen. When we complained to the manager, he said he was aware of the problem but his hands were tied. I feel I need to at least put a review up about it so other visitors know. I won't recommend Shutters because of this issue. Tourism dollars are crucial and I will spend mine somewhere where I feel safe. It's too bad things have deteriorated so badly. Even having breakfast at Coast was a problem because of the homeless men coming to the door and yelling at those of us eating. It's sad and I don't blame Shutters but I would like them to put some pressure on their city officials. California has a big issue to tackle with their homeless population. Until they do, I will not return to Shutters on the Beach.…
Located in the heart of Santa Monica with easy beach access (beautiful) and walk to all. The service is top notch and the hotel restaurants (onsite) and sitting areas are very inviting, all with views of the beach. The rooms and baths are very nicely appointed but overall the furnishings in both the rooms and lobby area is dated in style. The pool area is very small with limited loungers; the pool itself and pool surround is old and needs to be replaced, including the hot tub. There is a typical resort fee but beware it doesn’t include $50 per beach chair, excluding umbrella, which I found to be absolutely ridiculous given the resort fee. We really loved this hotel but again it needs some updating to make it worth $1k per night.
As they say, better late than never. My daughter and I stayed the July Fourth Weekend, and it was fabulous. Our rooms were amazing, second floor ocean front kings. The welcome amenties, were a pleasant suprise. Wine, marcroons and evian, for myself. My daughter was treated also, with sparkling jucie and carrot cake. Jonathan and Bernardo were a great help, taking care of our transporation needs. The hostess at Coast along with Gio and Alex, provided amazing service. Housekeeping was the best, our rooms everyday were spotless, also turn down service was a nice treat. Thank You, for another amazing stay!!!
We felt so relaxed from the moment we arrived. Everyone from the valet staff to the front desk made sure we felt welcome. The gentleman who brought us to our room gave us great tips to help us enjoy our experience. The staff at the pool and the restaurant were also very responsive. We greatly enjoyed laying by the pool, having breakfast near the beach and using the free bicycles to explore the area. On checkout day, we asked the desk a few questions about activities we were still considering in the area and they offered us late checkout without me even asking. I can't imagine staying anywhere else on our next trip to LA.
