After having problems the first time, we returned because of the new GM. The biggest problem here is bad service. The lady who checked us in was great, but that's where it ended. The guy who was at the front desk the first time was still there this time. His attitude is in the toilet. The first day we were there, he was arguing with another couple about not having housekeeping cleaning rooms daily. I think he said they only clean every THIRD day (we were there for one). The guy claimed it was because of COVID restrictions...this is the SAME guy who wouldn't wear a mask properly at the height of COVID the last time we were at the property. NOW, with NOBODY wearing masks, they're STILL using the same excuse? Next, my son asked for coffee. The guy seemed to find everything he could possibly do....every phone call he could take before bringing it out 30 minutes later. My son stood there waiting the whole time. BREAKFAST: The hot breakfast has gone downhill. Enjoy your hard boiled eggs vendor-style packaged waffles (with 22 grams of fat). SOFA BED: Totally sunken inn. I'll attach a picture. NO support. It's a pretty property with terrible service.…
Find another place to stay. We chatted with front desk staff two days ahead of time and arrival day confirming they would have a travel crib on hand for us. They confirmed both times. At check-in, we were told there were no cribs available. Our child did not sleep and it was a terrible experience. I wish they would have been honest with us so we could have better planned.
Located in a quiet part of town but close to a beautiful beach. The staff was lovely & friendly. The hotel was sparkling clean with comfy beds.Nice little breakfast too.We would definitely stay here again!
This is by far the worst place to stay. The rooms are stuffy and have a musty smell. Neither tv worked in our room. We complained and asked to be moved but they did not move us. I was with my three small kids to have a staycation and movie night. I tried to switch the tvs and see if one would work. When I complained that night and the next day to ask for a credit the manager accused me of lying and that I tampered with the tvs to just get a free night. Even though I complained to several employees the day before and asked to be moved. The manager Derek Greek is a disgrace to the Marriott name. He proceeded to call me a liar and refused to give me any type of credit or refund. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
Hotel appeared to be newly renovated. Located 5-10 minute north of city center. Neighborhood looked a little sketchy, but no issues experienced. Room was adequate with two queen beds. Shower was SLICK AS ICE and no safety mat, glad I didn't fall. Nice breakfast in the AM. Free onsite parking. Overall a quiet and comfortable location.
TL; DR: I’m a monthly traveler and this Fairfield Inn was absolutely a gem in Santa Cruz. Very clean, modern and well kept. Definitely coming back. This is a nice quiet property just off Hwy 1, but shielded enough from traffic that it's pretty quiet. Fairfield Inn SC is a newer property that is well maintained. Anthony at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating of special requests (higher floor, view, later check out). Staff in general were very friendly and staffing was appropriate for the traffic. We got the suite w/ a balcony on a higher level floor - though the hotel doesn't have amazing views from its location, by request, they placed us where there was a view of the ocean at least. The suite was spacious, well appointed, modern and best of all - immaculate. You could even see where housekeepers had wiped down high touch surfaces and counter tops from the residue of microfiber cloths being wiped across them. Save money on breakfast - they had something for everyone, including for those w/ dietary restrictions like gluten allergies or vegetarian. The breakfast had a good spread of various proteins, cereals, fresh fruit, juice, tea/coffee and even grab and go items. An extra plus, that the set up of the breakfast area allows for plenty of social distancing. There's even a patio you can eat breakfast on.…
Fairfield Inn on Mission Street in Santa Cruz is a fairly new hotel near UC Santa Cruz and Natural Bridges Sate Park. It is located on the west end of Santa Cruz, a short distance away from the downtown and wharf areas. There are many nearby restaurants, coffee shops and markets, yet the area of the hotel itself is very quiet. Evidence that the hotel is well-managed is everywhere. The front desk staff was professional and responsive, the hotel was clean and and housekeeping was very good (a note: daily housekeeping is not currently available but one can always get extra towels and we went prepared with that knowledge.) The breakfast buffet is back and very well run; there were no shortages or empty serving dishes. Rooms are modern with plenty of electrical and USB receptacles, and are of varying sizes. The only minor drawback is that the pool and hot tub are fairly small, becoming overwhelmed by a relatively small number of guests. We would happily stay there again.…
The only nice thing about this property is the extra space in the room, especially when traveling with a family. Otherwise, there is no reason to stay here. I forgot that Fairfield is on Marriotts low end of their offerings. Maybe that explains some of my missed expectations. This was a family trip, however, I stay in hotels for work every week and know that a mediocre property can increase its score with amazing staff. Similarly, a nice property can lose points with mediocre staff. The problem is if a property and the staff are mediocre, then there's not much hope for a memorable stay. And that is exactly how to describe my experience here and why I would not return. This property isn't exactly inexpensive to stay at, however, the franchisee has apparently decided to make the experience inexpensive. The 'breakfast' is non-existent (when management writes their response to this...are prepackaged gas station brand muffins and little boxes of cold cereal representative of breakfast to anyone? ), there is zero housekeeping - the check in signage clearly points this out. As in.. don't even ask. And the staff experience, which I blame solely on the management, was very lacking too. With the exception of a nice older, tall gentleman one morning (who was very nice), I found the rest of staff, especial evening check in, to be not hospitable at all and unaware of the requests we made for our room on the Marriott app. Its not like i made up the options on the app. It's the Marriott app specifically for this hotel. And either the app is wrong or the front desk person is wrong. Management needs to pretend they are a customer booking a room and see what options the app show are available vs. what the property actually offers. Finally, if you are Marriott elite status, expect no recognition for your brand loyalty. These are all reasons for me to choose another property on my next visit. Time to see what Hilton has to offer. Good luck and safe travels! …
This Fairfield looks brand new and so was very comfortable for our short overnight visit. It’s tucked away from downtown or the Boardwalk but close to Natural Bridges State Beach and to UC Santa Cruz. We planned on visiting the arboretum and West Cliff Dr so the hotel location was convenient for us. The rooms were clean and comfortable and I liked that the hot tub was available for use by reservation. Breakfast was also by reservation and you had to fill out the ticket and choose what you wanted. Nothing special — Jimmy Dean microwaved sandwiches, yogurt and individually wrapped muffins. The Clif Bars were a surprise — a step up from standard granola bars. We had coffee in the lobby at breakfast but no juices. Microwaves were in the room if we preferred to just pick up breakfast early and microwave it later. As with most new hotels, no tub in the room. Just a shower with shampoo/conditioner in big refillable bottles. Standard Fairfield tea shampoo which has a lovely fragrance we like. The hotel is not really walking distance to any services so if you want to eat at a restaurant, be prepared to drive. But for what we needed (a short overnight) it worked well. …
We've stayed numerous times. Last was just before Covid hit. Still helpful friendly staff. Well kept facility. No breakfast buffet, exercise room, pool by reservation only makes it a different experience. Limited room cleaning for short stays because of covid makes it a lesser experience. They offer a bag of yogurt/muffin/fruit/cliff bar at the desk upon request. No fault of the staff. They're trying to keep everyone safe. Outside food- Upper Crust Pizza and Ferrell's donuts and Ice cream about a quarter mile back towards town were good. Don't miss the 10 minute walk down to the ocean and beach.
